I know this may sound dense for most, but how do you know if you got a legit pokemon in a trade? I got a mew, but I don't know if it is legit. I wouldn't want to offer it without knowing.
Thanks

Yeh, what jauco said. There really is no real way to know other than checking how the mew was obtained and where.

If it is a Toys R' Us Mew it should have the trainer name as MYSTRY
and the ID #06930, where the (06) is the year (9) the month, and 30 is the day.

Other Mews are out there as well. Used for the Mew obtained at a Toys "R" Us event in August 2007 throughout the United Kingdom. The OT, Aura, also references the eighth movie. ID #20078.

Oh I forgot, I have 2 MYSTRY Mews. They should also have meet at level 10. I raised them a few levels and once I finish some things in the 3rd Gen, they will follow me to the 4th Gen.

With the Pokesav program and an Action Replay device, you can create a perfectly created pokemon.

The best way to tell if a pokemon is legit is to try playing with the pokemon on Battle Revolution. That game verifies that the stats and moves are appropiate for the pokemon. It will reject anything that has been overly modified.
