Hi! I'm going to try breeding a team for running through Diamond in the shortest possible time. Therefore, I will breed them in my Pearl game, to abuse the extra exp gain for different OT IDs. I also decided to limit my team to 3 attackers, to use the power of 3 HM or useful outside-battle moves Smeargles to cut down on Potion etc. time. It also means less Pokemon to level up, which is always a plus. Please tell me of lacks in important type coverage etc. Thanks!

Chimchar @ Lucky Egg
Mild

Brick Break (Close Combat when it can learn it)
Flamethrower
Grass Knot
Nasty Plot

Smeargle @ Choice Specs

Cut
Fly
Surf
Strength

Smeargle @ Life Orb

Defog
Rock Smash
Waterfall
Rock Climb

Smeargle @ ?

Teleport
Defog
Dig
Flash

The 5th and 6th spot are unsure... Maybe I will just use them to send over items, or don't use them at all.

Obviously I didn't need to list natures on the Smeargles, as they only act as slaves. Also, an idea for what item that could be useful on the last Smeargle would be great! I have Orbs for the whole team (I really like that item :P), but maybe I should change that too?

Thanks in advance ^^

EDIT: Blissey in there, as it's a better Softboiler.
EDIT2: Removed Blissey, as it will only leech from the Exp that Ape gets. Removed the other attackers. 2 spots open.

Looks good enough.

Why do you need life orbs for the smergles when they won`t do much attacking.

Also isent it better to breed and save before you get the egg and hatch it in diamond as otherwise you are set at a level up limit. Like if them pokemon go above lv.10 before gym 2 they won`t obey. Then its lv.30 before gym 4. Its really annoying.

I may at least have 1 of the Pokes hatched in Diamond to deal with those issues ^^ The reason for the Life Orbs is that the items Poliwag and Gastly have are there for other reasons than damage increase. When I am in the Pokemon League or similiar, I think I will use all the Orbs on the attackers.

I also wondered how the Softboiled mechanics work outside of battle. I read that it takes away 1/5 of the users health, and gives it to the target. Is that 1/5 of the users HP, or 1/5 of the receivers HP? If it uses the HP of the user, then it would mean I have to level up the Softboiled user, taking away some of it's merit...

EDIT: Just want to say that I haven't bred these Pokes yet, so any possible changes for the better regarding the Pokemon will be great, too!

I think its the users. A wierd choice but if you ev`d the smergle in hp before trading then it having it with high hp you get more hp.

But the best bet for softboiled is a chansey.

I am thinking of Exp. Sharing a Chansey/Blissey up for the Softboiled help... I prefer to not trade over an already leveled Pokemon, so those are my best shot...

Why not get a blissey around lv.40 and continue exp sharing it from there.

As then you will need no potions atall.

Even though I prefer no already leveld Pokes, you have a point: I will send over my lvl 19 Blissey, as it's just for cutting down on potion costs. Will edit the first post now!

EDIT: Just thought, Lucky Eggs should probably be the items of choice for them, as they will make them level twice as fast! That, and the exp. bonus for different OT on Poliwag and Gastly, will probably make them level VERY fast!

in all honesty, infernape has the best coverage to beat thru the entire game.

Nasty Plot
Close Combat
Flamethrower
Grass Knot

that's all i used, beat every gym on the first try.

on a side note, this wouldn't go under rate my teams, that's for competitive use on the wifi.

I had trouble deciding which forum to use... If I use that ape, and no other attackers, what do you think would be good things to have in the free spaces? Thanks :)

HM slaves, probably?

Best of my knowledge, most successful speedruns go through the game with just one main fighter, rather than trying to train multiple team members which adds too much time. I know this has been the case for the R/B, Y, and FR/LG speedruns I've seen.

What completion time are you shootin' for? :)

Don't really know, as fast as possible :P But thanks for the idea! Now I just need to decide, then, if I will hatch the Ape in my Diamond or not... I think I will hatch in the Diamond.

EDIT: I have now made the 3 important Smeargles, so all important moves are covered. I think this thread can be closed, as I don't think there is much doubt that Infernape is the best mixed attacker for my purpose (pretty quick evolve, many moves from lvl up or breeding, no need to use TMs down the road). I have decided to use the classic MixApe set with a Mild(+SpA, -Def) nature.

So, this thread can be CLOSED.
