I am going to start this thread for discussing the Little Gym. Hopefully soon I can get caught up on my Platinum so I can record battles, but until then I am stuck in the stone age of talking about the battle.

O.K. there are currently 2 members on my list for my brawling babies.

As my work schedule will have it, I can battle this Sunday after 6:00 PM Eastern Time (GMT -05:00).

I have work today and work and kids tomorrow so I have no free time until Sunday. As soon as I get my work schedule I will post.

Also I will be off work this coming Wednesday and Thursday.

Not completely satisfied with the team, but is anyone ready to challenge the Little gym?

Found some small hiccups in my team, but it may just be due to lack of practice.

Can't believe Miasma took so much damage from just 1 hit. That opening move really hurt my team tactic he-he.

Nice battle.

EDIT: I just happened to notice I used the Miasma with better attacking over defense he-he.

Thanks for the battle buzz, i was thinking that first move might cause some issues based on the various things possible with lil battles...

I wish that you would have been able to see Balboa.

From what I saw, challengers may have a very rough time with your team if you get going - you saw that it did affect me for one turn there.

The first move put a quash on my special damage, but Miasma is my starter of the said effect. Which Miasma also has a move to take advantage of the effect and keep Miasma going.

Which your second Poké, forget the name, made short work of Miasma.

The tactic worked great on level 50 and 100 battles, but it also had a Spiritomb leading the game plan.

That still shocked me that Miasma was almost OHKO'd.

Didn't get to use my move-set change either he-he.

Anyone else up for a gym battle tonight? I have time for a battle or 2 before bed.

I can't believe how bad Miasma is getting beat around. And how little my little annoyance move is effecting opponents.

Nice battle meeker. Atleast Rubble on my team inherited his father's usefulness.

Lee Yen...from Gash Bell. Anyways, that was probably one of the most fun battles I've had in a while. Definitely coming back even though I won. But, gosh, your team was AWESOME!!!

Ah I am a bit disappointed in my team. The main annoyance has not worked to the effect I thought it would. Which the main annoyance has to kick in for the aftermath to be effective.

Maybe having the entire team centered on one tactic might need tweaking.

No big deal though, the other 2 gyms I was leader of I started off with a few losses until I got the team jelling.

Nice battle rj61. I don't want to add insult to injury here, but with me being paralyzed 5 rounds in a row, there was no reason to continue beefing up your Pokémon. Also once I landed one hit and you were below half health, you should have just attacked, you would have OHKO'd me with all those stat buffs.

Very nice battle though, down to the wire.

You have no idea how colorful my language was after 2 paralyzed rounds in a row, let alone after the 5th consecutive round.

LOL. Well I actually to tell you the truth I hadnt bred any attack moves into NOVA yet. I was just testing it out. I got the combo idea from meeker. I felt very lucky that you were paralyzed for that long.

I am currently working on my copy and paste PM message to send out to challengers of the gym. If anyone remembers my boring PM's of hey you challenged me from the Beacon and Chrysalis days, well I am sorry you had to endure that, but my new copy and paste should not be as lame.

I just wanted to post and inform everyone there is a thread for the little battle gym rules.

I will post here some of the questions I have received.



Vitamins are not a banned substance, since the battles are level 1 the vitamins have no effect anyway.
Egg moves are allowed, since this gym is about showing off your breeder talent.
Banned moves

Just like all gyms, moves that directly increase evasion (such as Double Team and Minimize) are NOT permitted in battle.
No set damage moves, like, SonicBoom and Dragon Rage.
Any other moves are allowed.


Please read over the entire set of rules before battling.

Oh and one side note, please stay in wi-fi for a trade inspection after every battle. Win or Lose, if I only check the winners I don't want someone to think I am checking because I think they cheated, so everyone will be checked regardless.

If you leave wi-fi after winning, you won't get the badge, no exceptions. If you leave wi-fi after losing without an expection, you will have to wait 2 weeks instead of the 1 week to rechallenge.

Tough I know, but I am tight on the rules.

Nice battle Empoleon67. I am still trying to figure out how a lower base speed stat Pokémon with the same spd stat point that moved second all of a sudden started moving first.

I think I know why, and this will happen a lot in little battles. If 2 pokemon have the SAME speed stat. It will randomly decide who will go first. So I think there getting lucky on you when they need it.

Yes I understand all that, but I thought I had the priority move and would think I would win more then 1 out of 10 coin flip decisions.

Thank you meeker. I had to bite the bullet and go away from what I like using and use what would be most effective. I think Dime may be a good fit for this gym.

I switched from my strategy to try for a quick KO and it ruined my entire tactic afterward.

Nice battle Kurt. Just so you know, I had 2 HP left on my last Pokémon. Which, your last and my last had the same SPD stat, coin flip was in my favor.

That status effect from your one Poké and thinking you would stay in your pattern of moves almost cost me. I should have switched earlier, just couldn't risk my Dime dropping.

Heh yeah. It seems I still have a lot to learn about the little battle environment. I didn't expect your second pokemon (Bowhead was it? Sorry I don't really remember the name) to be as fast as it was. Yeah I made some big mistakes here, but I'll be back.

Nice battle razorbeam. I don't want to give away anything, but I found out the hard way that Stealth Rock is not worth it. A round with no attack with the lasting effect of 1 point of damage being done on a switch.

Although, dropping Bowhead in one hit had me worried.

I probably shouldn't post but even the speed on my team couldnt take out Dime when I went against Buzz. Just thought I would put my two sense into this conversation.

Dime is special. I think his move-set, only 2 other Pokémon can use his tactic, and both are slower.

I have a few new ideas in the works also. Only problem I am running into is the fact the team will have to many common weaknesses. Although if I never give the opponent time to hit me, weaknesses shouldn't matter. :p

Yeah-- I wondered if maybe that species had Scrappy, but I guess not. Bowhead surprised me; seems my Chinchou wasn't as safe a switch-in as I thought! I guess I should come up with another move to put on my Drifloon... what a way to lose. :P Haha, but so it goes. Fun little match!

1 move may have actually kept you from winning. The use of Grass Knot hurt you I believe.

Hey, do what works! I'm still getting the hang of little battles, but it's a neat change! It's tough to get in the all-offense mindset though. My usual playstyle is a lot more defensive than it seems like people need in little battle format.

That would be Dime. I love that Pokémon.

Yeah I had to adjust my way of battling as well. It is not all purely offense. Well I guess it is, but you still need to find ways to out think your opponent.

Like the other night. I did my normal routine and the opponent used Substitute when I switched. No big deal my Poké coming in could break the substitute easily. Well when I broke the sub the opponent used Dragon Dance. So not only was I looking at a near fainted opponent, he was now stronger and faster then me. Well luckily I had Sucker Punch. I had to think about it though, where they going to use another DD or were they thinking they would faint if they did. Needless to say Sucker Punch let me go first and I fainted a big threat.


Oh minor note, that was my 5th win in a row and my new record for the Little Gym.

With only 17 challenges, I have only given away 5 badges.

Now to me this gym does not seem to be drawing a lot of attention.

I would like to find out why


Is it the level 1 battles?
Is it no items?
Is it only 3 Pokémon used?
Is the badge not shiny enough?
Is it that the gym leader stinks? I mean come on B.O. :puke:


The items thing I can see as being a problem. I mean using items would dominate at level 1. However, some items may not, but that would mean tons of testing.

Level 5 might offer some more fun, but then that turns into a game of IVs, Natures, and EVs. Which would turn into an sub tier grouping again. OU,BL, and UU of the baby kind.

Only 3 Pokémon. I think using 6 would allow for more options and tactics, but it also may water down the field. Another option may be 4 Pokés and have a doubles battle baby gym, but I am not in the mood to learn a new system of double babies. I am just now getting the understanding of little battles.

Would more prizes boost the interest? Something I have never done before and never would do is, offer Pokémon I used on my Beacon Gym and Chrysalis Gym teams. Maybe offering more of the IV studs from my breeding projects?

I am a bored baby sitter here.

Another though, is it the gym leader that is the problem?

Not to toot my own horn, but for some reason most people are caught up in the name BugCatcher. For some reason I intimidate some and I have the not so much fan club he-he.

I am just curious if it is something I am doing that is keeping members from challenging the gym. Other then my stupid mad skills. My little battling skills are getting right up there with my numchuk skills.

I may be able to explain that a larger drought might be coming with Steve creating the Team Rocket Game on the 20th. However, I have noticed that on 5/14/09 you began the began the "Survivor" game, here (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showpost.php?p=191748&postcount=35). This is the day after the minor drought began. On 5/18/09 the Gold Team, Blue Team, and Red Team were finalized here (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showpost.php?p=192825&postcount=68). This is the day before the minor drought ended. On 6/3/09, you issued the second "I love Poke mons Challenge (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showpost.php?p=196303&postcount=1)". This is three days before the major drought took place. OMG wow. I just want to beat people up he-he.

To me I have looked at the rate of wins and losses.

When I started in the Beacon, my first battle as Beacon Gym leader was my first battle ever against someone that was not 20 levels below me on my way to the E4 in my game.

Which my first 2 battles were losses and I won my third.

Now the Chrysalis was a bit different. I lost my first 6 in a row. Although I could whimper and wine about the fact I saw Blissey, Aerodactyl, and about 5 out of my first 6 losses had teams of atleast 5 OU and maybe one minor tossed in for good sportsmanship. I could say how the first 6 losses came from trainers that were more then experienced battlers. How some may have been there to throw egg in my face because I had the nerve to think I could beat OU teams with UU Pokémon. But I won't. A loss is a loss no matter what team you put together. If you toss out your ball, you can't make excuses at the end.

Then the little gym. Yikes. Took everything I thought I knew as a battler, and shoved it right back in my face. Dinks and dunks, annoying and off the wall tactics meant nothing. Straight up hit or be hit. If I could just find the time and the box space to finish breeding the new team members I think will make my team dominant, I think I could have a very long streak of wins. Maybe even long enough to rival my longest win streak ever of 16 wins in a row, as the Beacon Gym leader.

But thanks for helping a bored gym leader take a nice walk down memory lane.

Oh, well. You asked for a possible reason for why you haven't had so many battles lately, and I gave you a solid guess, with evidence to back it up. I told you the gym leader wasn't the problem. Also, just from viewing the last ROLL CALL and all of the matches that occurred after it, you still need to battler dreher and slizer; all others have been battled.

I hope that this list may help to you in curing your battling drought. However, I do hope that you don't stop the "I Love Poke mons" challenges just because it might be coveting attention from the players as well as the audience.

You might consider testing my theory by creating a poll asking, "Do you observe the 'I Love Poke mons" challenges?" Three separate choices could be "Yes, I'm a participant", "Yes, I'm an audience member", or "No". If a large amount of members either put "Yes, I'm a participant" or "Yes, I'm an audience member" you may have found the source of the drought; the wait for the arrival of a new assistant so that they can challenge them after they lose to you.

Also, just from viewing the last ROLL CALL and all of the matches that occurred after it, you still need to battler dreher and slizer; all others have been battled.

I never heard back from them and their request was over a month old, so they were removed from the challenge sheet.

On 6/16/09, you announced the possibility of the third challenge being an art contest. Complaints and enthusiasm about this competition continued until the 6/19/09. You announced on the 6/20/09 that round two was complete. If you were to have let the thread continue, there would have been the possibility that comments and opinions may have continued.

Also, on 6/20/09, you announced the beginning of the third "I Love Poke Mons (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showpost.php?p=199684&postcount=1)" challenge. Seemingly redundant questions pursued until the next day where you put an end (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showpost.php?p=199747&postcount=8) to it. On the 6/21/09, the day before the end of the drought, you mention how you have received only 3 PMs.

On the 6/26/09, which takes place after the drought, you mention how you have received 5 PMs, which is an increase of less than half. This is also only half of the participants that are competing in the challenges. You receive only a single posted response about a member still completing their entry, leaving you with 6, on 6/27/09.

The dates 6/16/09 - 6/21/09 properly describe the drought that the gym was put through. However, this should have left you with several possible assistants to challenge the gym, because they all show interest in the gym, since they are all signed up in these competitions. However, they all may be swamped with preparing to battle you, because from the Battle Record Thread, it would seem that only three members in this competition have faced you (two of them receiving badges), so the rest must be preparing to face you, but may be being intimidated by your current winning streak, seeing as how you don't hold back any of your glee. It shouldn't be if people think they are good enough to win against me. If you ask me that is pretty impossible. I go into every battle knowing, not thinking I will win. The battles I lose I can usually come up with atleast 2 things I could have changed that would have given me the win.

And you said it, the style and format of the little battling. How can you know what to work on without attempting? I honestly had to learn to battle in this format. I thought no big deal my team is, I am a Master Breeder, my IVs are killer, and my move-sets are unorthodox. Well none of that matters. My current team does not have a single IV that is 31, or 30, or 29, or even 28. My breeding and move-sets are still killer though. :p

The thing is, you have to battle to find out how it works and what you need to work on.

My schedule is pretty open. Today for example, I could battle sometime between now and, like... 6 PM EST, or later from 10 to 1 EST. I don't have any plans for today so I'm probably just staying in.

As long as they are level 1, they can use any move they are hatched with or TM'd with or Move Tutor'd.

That was really surprising, indeed! I had no idea that 2.1 would come back from that crit (at 2 HP), outspeed Dime, crit right back, and OHKO it! I was really shocked. Great match!

EDIT: Two things:
1) The fact that I am a repeat customer did help me. I probably wouldn't have opened the way I did if I hadn't seen what Dime could do before.

I know it sounds minor but if you request a battle and your team is not ready, then that makes me look bad as a gym leader when I have challenge request that are weeks old.

I have cleaned out my challenge request. It has been a week and I have not heard from most of the challengers. Viperizer, I did not remove your name, but if your team is still not ready I will remove your request.

Although I think most of those came from challenge 4, but those are the last 3 members to lose to me.

I believe people need to read the rules of the Hatchling Gym. Sasuke and Shayden were my last 2 battles and neither seemed to know the rules.

Some changes here. Shayden you will be battle my assistant after your first lost, I want to make sure you fully understand the rules of the Hatchling Gym.

Those that have to battle meeker will have to wait 3 days after their loss to me. Then if you beat meeker you will have to wait another 4 days to battle me, 7 days total.

This completely annoys me. Those that are so eager to battle, but never read the rules. Now my team is known to them and allows them to prepare. I mean I have other Pokés to use, but I shouldn't have to flip everything because someone won't read the rules.

I am going to discuss this with the other gym leaders, but I really want to see stiffer punishment for those that don't read the rules.
