Tani's Treasures - Wicked Weedle
The Bug Catching Contest in Johto – have you been? It’s held in a park between Goldenrod City and Ecruteak Town.
It operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and the goal is to catch yourself a bug – any bug (best bug wins!) I’m sure you’re aware of my entomological bent by now, me being Chrysalis Gym Leader and all – anyway... suffice it to say my interest did not come recently; bugs have fascinated me from the get-go!
You could catch Pinsir, Caterpie, Scyther, Butterfree, Metapod, Kakuna, Beedrill or Weedle, and you got to keep whatever pokemon you caught there.
Hardcore trainers usually went straight for the brutes – pinsir and scyther. Butterfree was sought after by many a lass, whereas some trainers would make a beeline for the beedrill.
What I tried to catch depended on my mood – most of the time I didn’t go in looking for any bug in particular, and caught the first bug I saw – and other times I was more specific. I enjoyed watching the bugs so much that I was happy to leave without catching anything – I’d still get a berry for participating!
Then I would go back inside the gates and feed berries to the smaller bugs – after the contest was over, the bigger bugs would be returned to whatever forests spawned them, whereas there were always a few weedle and caterpie around the ‘bug park’ as I’ve nicknamed it, even when the ‘contest’ was over.
So what about those little bugs? Well... being the compassionate sort I am, I brought some of them along with me (it was a battle getting through Customs!) and now I have 25 weedle up for adoption!
