September 09 Tournament - Kanto Klassics Brackets & Results

Without Further Ado, the Kanto Klassics tournament Brackets:

As this is a double elimination tournament, the brackets are a bit more complicated than normal. You have to lose twice in order to be fully eliminated. If you lose once, you drop down into the losers brackets & keep battling. If you can survive the loser's brackets you will get a second shot at the winning the tournament!!
(Some special rules will apply if the survivor of the Loser's bracket beats the winner of the Winners Bracket, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it)


I ask that everyone conduct their battles as quickly as possible.
I ask the winners and losers of each battle to PM me with the results of the battle so I can keep on top of who is winning.
I ask that one or both of the involved parties to post in the discussion forum so others can get a sense of how things are going.

Actually, I've just noticed something; it spearheads into a Single Elimination on Battle S... (the loser of Battle S doesn't drop down to the Loser's Bracket) Was that intentional?

Ok, this gets a bit confusing.....

The winner of battle S (aka, winner of the winner's bracket) goes against the winner of battle T (aka, winner of the loser's bracket). If the winner of the loser's bracket defeats the winner of the winner's bracket, they have a rematch for the championship (allowing the winner's bracket winner one loss).

If the winner of the winner's bracket defeats the winner of the loser's bracket, then they are the winner of the tournament (as the loser's bracket winner has, by definition, already had one loss).

So the odds are stacked a bit in favor of the winner's bracket, as they only need to defeat the loser's bracket champion once, where the loser's bracket champion needs to beat the winner's bracket champ twice, but that's why it's an advantage not to have lost yet....

I can understand that. I'm still a little mixed up with where the Loser of Battle S goes, though. The participants of Battle T are the Winners of Battle Q & R and with Double Elimination, shouldn't the Loser of Battle S drop down to the Losers' Bracket, seeing as they have only one loss throughout the Tournament?

The Loser of Battle S doesn't show up at all on the Losers' Bracket, which is what I was wondering about.

You are correct of course. I'll correct that & add the loser of Battle S into the brackets with the next revision. Fortunately, we aren't nearly that far in yet.....

The battle results are starting to come in & it sounds like things are progressing well.

If anyone has any issues, please let me know.

In a bit of Official Business: ShadowMario has been unable to get ahold of RJ61. As he has not logged in for over a week & we don't know where he is, I've awarded the win to ShadowMario. This will count as a single loss for RJ61 & he has dropped into the losers' brackets. If his next opponent can't get ahold of him either he will be eliminated from the tournament.

Special thanks to N0t2f34r for being the only one to actually contact me about their inability to participate.

Their opponents will move on in the winners bracket with byes & anyone that would have had to face them in the loser's bracket will also get a bye.

Hopefully I will be able to eliminate those unable to particiapte in future tournamnents before we get this far in the future. My apologies to thoase who got stuck behind folks that didn't show :( I know that at least one of you hasn't had a battle yet because they keep getting no shows...

In the mean time, I hope everyone can finish their remaining battles now that we are down to the folks that actually want to play!

That was a great match. Wow, reminded me of my battle against Flareon! That was definitely tricky. Ah even if your last pokemon's attack missed I doubt I would have damaged it enough to pull of a win anyway. My last pokemon was already pretty weakened. I only had 97 hp >.<

Not quite... After some discussions via PM I have decided to give Baguio the benefit of the doubt & let him back in. So he is your next opponent!

Everyone, I've updated the brackets again. How are folks doing getting their battles in? I'd like to wrap the September tournament up before the October tourney starts....:)

It looks like Baguio has won the winners division & we are waiting on a few matches in the losers division to determine his final challenger.

It looks like there was some confusion earlier regarding inactivity & it ended up messing up the brackets a bit. I'll post an update later today. In the meantime, assume the posted brackets are correct.

I know that some folks have had more battles than others. The nature of Double Bracket tournaments leads to that, as did the number of no-shows early on.

Either way, you still have as much chance to advance as he does.

Oh, I'm well aware of that. What I said was in no way out of malice; just merely a comment from observation on what ShadowMario3 had said early on, when the no-shows were purged.
