First off so everyone is clear on the rule for using loaner Pokés. You can use a Poké from a friend, but it cannot be in the final build. The Poké you turn in for a grade has to have parents that were bred by you. So A loaner Poké can be used to get a Nature, IV, Moves, etc., but it cannot be the parents of the Poké you are having graded. If you use a loaner Poké, you must include this in the report and state what it was used for. Also if their is a need to check said loaner Poké, you must be able to produce it and know any EVs it may have so it can be tested. Also, we are looking at level 1 Pokémon, so if your Poké can't learn a certain move until it evolves, it does not matter to the build and you will not get credit for, oh but when it evolves this move changes to that move.
That being said, this project will be different. You can breed any Poké you want. I want to see a pure offensive powerhouse. You will also write up a strategy guide with your Poké describing how it is used. Explain in detail, like if you build a Fire Poké and it has a Grass attack to counter it's Water weakness. You can increase your strategy guide by listing Pokés that can counter your Poké.
That being said, it will be the board that decides on the credits tagged to Nature, Moves, and strategy guide. Natures will max out at 3 credits and move-sets can max out at 6 credits. As always IVs will give a bonus, but only if they are in the correct positions. You cannot have a 31 IV in DEF on a Poké with a base 5 in DEF and say it is crucial to the build.
Extra credit will be assigned to the best strategy guide, by forum vote.
You can view Serebii's Poké of the Week (http://www.serebii.net/potw/), Smogon's Strategy PokéDex (http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/), or this link Pokéfarm's Pokémon Strategies (http://forum.pokefarm.com/forumdisplay.php?f=74) with one of my favorite strategy guides being, #012 Butterfree (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showthread.php?t=6147) for ideas on writing your strategy.
This project starts Thursday, October 1st and ends Monday, October 12th.

Will the length of the breeding chain affect how many points we get?
If so, will using a Smeargle count as more than one Poké? (As you have to find other Pokés with the desired moves, then Sketch)

The chain for this project will not count towards any credits. Smeargle would count as 1, since you are just sketching a move and not passing moves to a Smeargle.
Plus I know I say I believe in the honor system, but there is always wonder and if anyone uses a breeding chain site, they could still use a Smeargle and say they used Poké x, y, and z.

Stupid question: Does a "pur offensive powerhouse" mean all attacking moves, or a pokemon meant to be a sweeper with SD or DD (or either)?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on your thoughts on pure offensive. SD and DD would make your Pok more offensive. I cannot tell you what you can or can't put into your move-sets, it is a build what you want and not what Buzz wants.
You just build the best Pokémon you can for offense. Not all offensive Pokémon have 4 attacking moves. Some might even have a healing move, although that is rare in today's meta-game.

From the interest gathered in this thread so far, can I assume we have 2 students signed up for this project? Makes sense the top 4 are separated by a point spread of like 5 credits. Missing an event now will widen that gap.
If only 2 students are interested, I will make the mid-term the final and the semester can come to an end.

I don't think that every student who has participated has posted in every thread, though I could be wrong.
I've already started breeding my Poké, if it makes any difference.

I'm participating, its just that I've been trying to find a breeding chain without using move tutor moves, which I realize is now wasted time :( With my schedule this project will be a challenge.

So 3 students then? Only fair to let the top 3 continue to battle it out. Good luck to the remaining 3.

Should the 'guide' reflect only the moveset that we hand in, or any viable moveset for the pokemon chosen? Also, since many will be NFE, do you want the guide for the pokemon we breed, or its final evolution (or both)?
Sorry for all the questions, and I hope everyone's doing great!

Answer to the NFE question,
Also, we are looking at level 1 Pokémon, so if your Poké can't learn a certain move until it evolves, it does not matter to the build and you will not get credit for, oh but when it evolves this move changes to that move.
The guide should just be for the move-set you bred for, unless you are entering multiple move-sets. By the way I am only looking for 1 per student.

So, we have to breed a "poke". And have it with iv's,passed on moves, and a report? Is this the same Poke academy where you get a badge for high honors? Or am I at the wrong one?

This is the academy, but with just 2 events left I don't think you will gain enough credits to get top honors.
For the current students, let's look at some options for your offensive Pokémon.
Move-sets, Natures, Abilities, and Items all play a part in offensive sweeping. Say you have an Electivire, which in our case it will be an Elekid, adding an Expert Belt and having a move-set of Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Cross Chop, and Fire Punch leaves a Poké with a lot of coverage, but lacks a bit in STAB and pure power. However adding in an Expert Belt, Life Orb, and Choice Band can add the extra pop needed to OHKO a bit more often. Expert Belt being my favorite, since you get extra 20% on attacks that are super effective and no HP loss or you are not locked into 1 move. 50% attack increase from Choice Band is nice, but Electivire is not sound enough to be switching in and out a lot. Same with Life Orb has a 30% power increase with 10% recoil damage, which if you factor in any Stealth Rock, Spikes, Hail, or Sand Storms and you quickly end up with a fainted Yeti.
So while building, figure in what item your power house will use and add it to your report.

I have received P.O.D.'s report and guide and the board will be discussing the credits. I have filed my credits already.
Did I rush this project? I think it was set at like 11 days from project start to project finish.

I'm sorry buzz, but I regret to say yeah. I know for some people it was enough, but with all my classes I've hardly been able to work on this project. I'm just a little dissapointed because if I lose my lead and start falling behind because of schoolwork, then there is nothing I can really do about it. So, just for next project, a bit more time would make me a happy boy :)

I would just like to say you do have to remember most people here are back to school/collage/uni etc now so they have less time. With the amount of homework and other stuff people get they should get at least a few more days or so.

I agree that we could use some more time. Personally, this one was fine, but I've got at least 2 midterms coming up, and since this is my last year at college, I want to make sure I do the best I can.
Maybe give 2 weekends to work on projects. Whether that make a total of 2 weeks, or a week and a half, I'm not sure.

Not exactly what I was asking, but thanks anyways. (Though the "final" date that's posted is the date that the report has to be handed in on, based on past projects have worked.)
What I wanted to know was if the final date to hand in the project had been changed; I thought that the original due date was the 8th.

:255: :257: Report: Reversing Chiclets :257: :255:
Moveset:
Substitute
Reversal
Night Slash
Swords Dance
Breeding Chain:
:235: Smeargle with Night Slash, Reversal, and Swords Dance breeds with :255: Torchic. The offspring are then taught Substitute via TM.
Item:
Salac Berry
Explanation:
Substitute until you activate the Salac Berry, providing a speed boost. While Subbed, try and pull off a couple Sword Dances to boost your attack as well.
At one HP with a Swords Dance under its belt, Blaziken OHKOes almost all of the metagame with SR in play with a 200 base power Reversal.
Normally, Blaze Kick would be the second attacking move, but because Torchic can't learn Blaze Kick, I put in Night Slash. The combination of Night Slash and Reversal provides near perfect neutral coverage (only Heracross and Toxicroak resist).
IVs:
26/31/29/29/15/31
Nature:
Jolly (+Speed –Special Attack)
Ability:
Blaze
Notes:
I'll admit that I was breeding Smeargle before this project was announced, so I ended up with an amazing parent right off the bat. I still love the RNG, though. ;)
~Predictions of Doom
Credits:
Theme: 2 Credits
My experience with a SUBSALAC is, there are just to many ways in today's metagame to counter this tactic, which leaves it really lacking as a sweeper. Just with Stealth Rock, Spikes, Hail, and Sandstorm, to name a few, just to many ways to counter.
Move-set: 2 Credits
Chain: 1 Credits
Move-set I think is good, but the method for breeding for it was a bit lax. If you are using a Smeargle already, why waste a TM?
IVs: 2 Credits for 31 IVs and 4 Credits for spread.
IVs, I am saying 2 points for the 31's and 4 for the spread.
Nature: 3 Credits
Speed, Speed, Speed to sweep. I can't think of any nature better for this move-set.
Guide: 2 Credits
The guide I did not find to impressive. It told how to do the SUBSalac setup and revenge kill, but nothing explaining what to do if that doesn't work or what else this Poké could do.
Overall: 16 Credits
Overall, a good tactic, but not a pure power sweeper. Guide was seriously lacking and everything seemed a bit rushed.

Final offspring:
Grim 8/31/17/28/29/31 Adamant
Chain:
Lvl Heracross to 13 and 19 for Aerial ace and Brick break
Breed Heracross with female gligar
lvl male Gligar to 38 for U-Turn
Breed Gligar with female Scyther
lvl male Scyther to 9 for Pursuit
Breed Scythers with Pursuit, male with others
Hope for luck, and get it!
I'll try and get my parents checked soon by Kurt, since I have a pending trade with him anyways.
Guide:
Scyther, the Mantis Pokémon. Its claws are sharp as swords, and it is a powerful flyer. This Pokémon is rarely seen by humans and almost never captured.
Ability:
Technician-Powers up moves that have a base power of 60 or less by 50%
Swarm-Powers up bug-type moves by 1.5x when HP falls below 1/3
Type: Bug/Flying
Location: Route 229 (Diamond only), Route 210 and 215 on Platinum
Weaknesses:
Flying x2
Fire x2
Electric x2
Ice x2
Rock x4
Base Stats:

Attack: 110
Defense: 80
Sp. Attack: 55
Sp. Defense: 80
Speed: 105
Total:
Key stats: x/31/x/x/x/31
Choice Scyther
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Technician
Item: Choice Scarf
EV Spread: 78HP/252attack/180speed
Moveset:
Aerial Ace
Pursuit
U-Turn
Brick Break
Aerial Ace is a nice, solid STAB move. So is U-Turn, which also allows you to scout or switch to something better suited to your opponent. Pursuit is there to catch the nearly fainted pokes that try and run from the fearsome sight that is Scyther. If you're feeling lucky, Brick Break is super effective against rock and ice, two of Scyther's weaknesses.
Pursuit and Aerial ace are both powered by Technician, so if you're really paranoid about losing a speed tie, use the Choice Scarf for the speed boost. Jolly isn't chosen as a nature because you want to get all of the power you can. If being locked into a move doesn't appeal to you, then try a Metronome, which powers moves used successfully. That way you can fake having a Scarf/Band and then when your opponent switches to something strong against you move, you can catch them off-guard.
Note about the EV spread: Be careful about stealth rocks: Scyther is 4x weak to it, so try to make sure that your HP is odd so if you need to, you can switch in twice. The EV spread will give you an odd HP if you have a max stat there, and the speed EVs will let you outrun Pokemon with base stat of 95 and under. The rest goes into attack for maximum damage.
Credits:
Theme: 3 Credits
The theme for this build is very unique. A lot of range in the move-set, but maybe a bit lacking in power. Technician helps that, but may not be the big damage seeker.
Move-set: 3 Credits
Chain: 2 Credits
Move-set is nice and wide range, the use of U-turn is real nice for the reasons you mention in your guide.
IVs: 2 Credits for 31 IVs and 2 Credits for spread.
31 IVs where it mattered most, but the other stats were not mind blowing, other then the SP. DEF.
Nature: 3 Credits
Adamant, hmm well since I am the Jolly type , well most people would expect Jolly and you are right for adding in the extra pop to your attacks with Adamant nature.
Guide: 4 Credits
Not the cleanest wrote guide, but it lays out all the info for using your doom bringer. I like how everything was explained with Technician and the Choice Scarf.
Overall: 19 Credits
Really a nice project. Looks like a lot of thought went into do I want speed or power, and I believe this build mixes them both well.

EVs: ATK 252/DEF 4/SPD 252
Move-set:
Ice Punch
Brick Break
Aerial Ace
Faint Attack
Ice Punch and Faint Attack are some strong STAB attacks, being some of the most powerful on Sneasel. Aerial Ace and Brick Break provide the coverage that Ice Punch and Faint attack do not, being able to hit any types super-effectively except for Fire, Water, and Electricity.
A Jolly nature with Sneasel can usually out-speed most UU pokemon, so priority moves do not have to be addressed to the moveset. Inner Focus allows Sneasel to silence those para-flinchers for good.
The item is more of personal choice than anything. If your power hungry you could definitely go for life orb, which powers up your attack by 30%. Expert Belt may be the ideal choice for this set because the only types it hits ineffectively are fire, water and electricity, so there should not be any concerns with only powering up super-effective moves and it doesn't hurt your health every turn like life orb.
Other options for the item slot could be hax items or choice items, but remember choice items lock you into an attack, forcing you to switch out your poke to use a different move.

A fast Pokémon with power increase items and wide coverage attacks, very cool.
Move-set: 3 Credits

I didn't see a report for your breeding chain. The move-set has great coverage and decent power.
IVs: 2 Credits for 31 IVs and 2 Credits for spread.
31's on the big 2 STATS, but unfortunately not much after that. Decent spread though.
Nature: 3 Credits
Adamant might have added a bit more pop to your Sneasel, but isn't it nice to know you are the fastest thing going and will get a hit in first he-he. Jolly makes sure you get to get first a lot, like a lot a lot.
Guide: 4 Credits
The guide had a great layout. The description of the moves and attacking could have been just a bit more detailed, but what guide explains how to battle with this Poké down to the t?
Overall: 17 Credits
The layout was nice, the description was nice also, but I would have liked to see a bit more on what to do with each move, but the part about items brought it back around to being very informative.
