View Full Version : PokeFarm Apprenticeship Program
BugCatcher6
10-26-2007, 05:56 AM
Hello all. With the increase of trainers wanting to become breeders I have decided to offer an apprenticeship program. If you are currently a regular farmer here at PokeFarm and wish to help out a new breeder, drop a post here and I will PM you with more information. If you are a new breeder wishing to learn more from an experienced farmer, post here as well and I will get a PM to you and help you get setup. I will take all the info from both the experienced breeders and the beginning breeders and begin a stickied thread in the Farmer Forum. I will brainstorm with the experienced breeders and try to match up the beginning breeders with like teachers. I will also design some test to give each group to check the progress of trainer.
I would like to put my stable at the top of the list.

Drop me a PM if you have any questions or need any help. I might not be able to give you detailed answers from a PSP, so you might have to wait a bit for when I get on a keyboard at school. But yeah, I'm here for anyone who needs help. ^.^

A good start so far. I am going to let this thread run until the end of the month or so. Atleast until after this weekend and people get a chance to look at it and think about it. I would like to point out as celph has already. You don't have to be a Forum Farmer to be a mentor. If you breed for yourself and know the basics of breeding, you too could help out. I am not looking at making every trainee a Master Breeder. The goal is to get new trainers into breeding and teach them the basic, so they can take this knowledge and be able to go as far as they want with it. Now will everyone that wants to learn how to breed become as obsessed as I am, god I hope not. Some will take what they learn and run for the hills. Some will take their knowledge and use it for their own enjoyment. A small percentage will want to learn more and will keep breeding for the masses.
Hope to hear from more of you soon.

Ok.....I haven't had much luck on my own and I really want to get the breeding thing down....I've gotten great advice from a number here, but just when I think I have it......IT happens...(you know what I'm saying, same s**t, different day). So, please let me sign up for this wonderful school on breeding :)

Learning how to breed does not require Wifi. Buzz will provide us details of this program. At this time i assume, giving new breeders like you some guidance through PM like a buddy to guide you to a successful breeding of your own.

This seems like a neat sort of thing, but how exactly would it work?
For example, I've pored over the charts at psypokes and gamefaqs, and can more or less figure out who to put with who to get what with what move. The thing I don't get is, what moves should you try to breed for in the first place? Would the mentors here give that sort of advice? or is that something to be learned elsewhere? Also, what are the mentors going to do? Is it going to be one-on-one working? just a specific person to ask your breeding-related questions to? do you get "homework"--breeding assignments or something? (slightly unrelatedly, this might be an interesting set of contests for the comm--"breed a move over two egg groups," etc)
Anyway, I am just throwing out a bunch of questions, I hope it doesn't sound overly critical or anything! I think it's a really neat and helpful idea, typical of such a friendly comm. :)

It all depends on which apprentice you would end up with. If a new breeder is just looking to learn how to get new moves on a Pokemon, you would be a good fit. If they were looking to build battle nasties, then celph would be a better fit. I have came up with 3 categories of breeders, Battle Breeders, Fun Breeders, and Challenging Breeders.
Ooooh, I like that homework idea! And I say just one student at a time. Unless if you're pro like Buzz. XD

It depends on the volume of people entering to learn. If we have more students then teachers I mean. I would like it to be one on one.

I promise it won't be that hard. I plan on doing maybe 5 breeding sessions. Each Pokemon to be bred chose by me. With each getting more difficult. The main thing I want to pass on is the simplicities of breeding POkemon. Most people look at it and are like :o. Once you get the facts down of why moves can pass and how they can, breeding is as simple as you want to make it. The biggest resource you can have is a good website that has information like, egg moves, level up moves, TMs, and egg groups already laid out for you to simplify this for you. I am also planning with each Pokemon I give a person to attempt to breed, a rating system consisting of maybe 3 different move-sets each with a hidden scoring system that only I will do the scoring for. It is not a scoring system open to judging. It is my system and one I used to learn breeding.
If I can get my hands on a certain Pokemon, I am thinking the prize will be a legit Toys R' Us Manaphy. I still need to get my Manaphy from Steve, but I am willing to offer it to the winning student. I am also trying to come up with a prize for the teacher that has taught the winning student.

The concept behind this is to give an intro into Pokemon breeding. Yes all 3 phases of breeding will be put to the limits, but the idea is to show how to pass on egg moves, TMs, and leveled up moves. Combining moves to make a fun set or a battle set is all in the eye of the beholder.i could almost guess with a 100% guarantee that I could post a Pokemon and say now breed this for a battle or for fun and everyone Pokemon would have something different unless breed by a move-set guide from the likes of Smogon or Serebii.

The way it is going to play out is, I will have a list of 6 Pokemon. The student will choose which they would like to breed. I will then give a rule of something that must be included in the final Poke result. It is the students job to find out away to breed my request into the Pokemon they chose. The teachers will give input on making a move-set to go with my rule. The student picks a move-set they feel comfortable with. During the process of creating the final Pokemon, if the student has any questions, they PM their teacher and the teacher helps. It is basically a learn on the run type of class. The teachers will not do your project for you. Your trainer name will be on your project. Each project will get a little more challenging as the course goes on. With the final being a Wi-Fi battle to show off each Pokemon you have built. During your builds it is important to remember the 3 key areas of breeding, Fun, Challenge, and Battle. Your grade per Poke build will be based on all 3.
Still looking for 2 more teachers.

Thank you sharktoothman. Teachers do not have to be the king or queen of the farm to be teachers. It will be your ability to find the answers your student ask. I am not asking that you know every aspect to breeding. That is why I wish to not be a teacher. I figure I can help answer any question from the teachers or students. Also I feel it would be unfair for me to host the event and partake in the event. I know I keep repeating that, but it is a strong view on my part. I just feel that by doing both that could leave room for conflict of interest. So to save on any altercations that could come from it, I prefer to stay neutral.
I will drop a few hints on some teams.
There will be a Team Canada.
There will be a Hooligan team.
I think, but not 100% there is a Dad Team.
