I only read the manga myself.

On Wikipedia I read that the anime ended at the equivalent of the 36th manga volume, chapter 356.

I love Inuyasha, but that's definitely my biggest complaint, the fact that they ended the anime with everything still unresolved. I definitely need to check out the manga....

I say that Inuyasha is only ok. It would be so much better if it wasn't so repetative.

Plot: Inuyasha tries to hunt Naraku, finds a demon(s) and Kagome forces him to exterminate them. Then more demons come and control one of their friends, forcing them to fight and kill him. Then Inuyasha confronts Naraku, who always runs away after a short encounter.

I would like this more if it was around 26-50 episodes, not 200 and some. Not really sure how many exactly.

I've seen all 170 or so episodes. I wish I had stopped at 50. I kept waiting for things to get moving again, but they never do.

I'm told my my more Anime-Educated friends that Rumiko Takahashi, the Author of the Inuyasha Manga is famous within that subculture for putting out some of the most engaging stories possible. For about 10 volumes. Then she "treads water" for another 30 or so, hinting that the plot is going to move foreward and character relationships are going to develop.
But they never do. Apparently she did this in 2-3 other series as well.

The Anime follows this pattern pretty closely. Once you get to about episode 50 or so, everything that is going to happen, has happened. After that all the romances pretty much turn into a "will they or won't they" for the rest of the series, none of the important bad guys are beaten, characters get a few new tricks but nothing comes of it, and so on.

So really, the first 50 episodes are great. I really encourage you to watch and enjoy them. Then stop. Cause after the first 50 episodes you have seen the entire series.

Lol, thanks for the advice, i was wondering on whether or not i should watch it, but heck, if i do get around to it, i will be sure to not exceed fifty. I enjoyed the movies and what have you, but never got around to seeing the series itself in it's entirety.

I love InuYasha. I wake up every morning to see it. I love it when he lighten the Tetsaiga.

They actually did something with the plot in the manga after the end of the anime. Naraku is still alive, but they did kill off most of the bad guys on Naraku's side and one regular character on Inuyasha's side.

I prefer manga over anime.
In manga they don't have to lip sync so the wording is closer to the original.
