Sick and tired of of hunting for pokemon holding items? I stumbled across a trick a few months back that can be a huge help.

Lots of folks use Thief to relieve wild pokemon of their Held items, and lot of folks use the compound eyes ability to increase the odds that a given wild pokemon will be holding something.
A more involved held-item hunter will use a pokemon that has the Frisk power to determine if the wild pokemon has an item before they try to steal it.

This means that held item hunting involves at least two pokemon, one with Compound Eyes and one with Frisk. It can be rather tedious to do all the switching. Here s is a little trick I picked up on to smooth the process:

As you all probably know, pokemon are able to use HM moves even when fainted while you are moving around the map. Did you know that the same things applies to a Pokemon's powers?

This means that you can leave a fainted pokemon with Compound Eyes in the front of your party, and a pokemon with Frisk and the move Thief in your second spot.
The pokemon with compound eyes in front will double your chances of an item on anybody you encounter, but when they show up the pokemon with frisk in the second spot will be sent out to fight them.
This means you can quickly determine if a wild pokemon has something you want and either use Thief or run away without having to switch first.

Now that is good!!! Very helpful for stuff like dragon scale etc.

Not to be a jerk, but have you tested this? I don't have the time right now to test it and verify it. I would like to give you credit for this, just need to know if it works he-he.

If it helps I use this method Buzz.
Another thing to note is if your hunting for lucky eggs then have your compound eyes poke at level 18, use a repel, and then all you'll run into is Chanceys and Pikachus

I'm wondering if it works on fishing though?

Where do you do that at belnumcree, Trophy Garden?

Wondering if I should make this sticky, but I am going to give rep points.

Using a level 18 Pokemon + Repels to hunt for Chansey works in the Trophy Garden.

Everything else is to low a level and gets repelled, so you run into nothing but Chansey & Pikachu. I've found a number of Lucky Eggs this way. (Obviously, you need to wait for a day when the owner of the Trophy Garden tells you there are Chansey there)

Good information. I am going to make this sticky. I also gave you some reputation points.

Oops forgot to mention Trophy Garden....

Instead of waiting for a day the mansion owner says Chancey, I just save before I talk to the mansion owner and keep asking and reseting until he says Chancey..

Actually I think you have the day he says Chansey and the next day as well. I believe the Pokemon hang out for 2 days. The 2nd day they are at a higher chance to spawn then they are on the first day.

I just tested this and the hardest part is keeping my level 18 Stantler at level 18 he-he. Took some testing, but I finally found the right combo. I started with my fainted Yanma at level 18 and found out I needed my 2nd slot Stantler to be level 18 to make the repel work right. Just so happened when I went to see what Pokemon was in the garden, I was told Chansey he-he.

Good Find, really works well. Now to get it out after those Elekid and Magby.

Only the compound eyes (first pokemon in your party fainted or not) pokemon needs to be 18 :)

My thief pokemon is level 58

I didn't know the second day trick thanks.

My fainted compound eyes Yanma was at level 18 and I was still getting battles from level 16 Staravia and level 17 Kricketune

:confused: That's never happened to me before?? Sorry if I misinformed you. I'll see if I can find where I originally read about this method and send you a link.

I've seen the same behavior Bugcatcher6 has seen.

For some reason, the fainted compound eyes will attract more items, but the level 18 "battle-ready" character is the one that matters for repel....

Oh, and this does make the Elekid/Magby hunting a lot easier. Too bad they are of a much lower level than most of the other wild poke's in their areas, so Repel isn't as much use.

The best way I've found for keeping your thief at level 18 is to never actually fight anybody. If they don't have a good item, run. If they do, steal it, then run.

Yeah I think I will have to burn a TM on my Stantler, Right now my Thief is a level 80 Yanma. Could always do a breeding session with a Kecleon or a Mightyena to breed my Stantler a nice move-set along with Thief.

I'm still trying to find out about this, because it the 1st non fainted pokemon is the one that matters with repel I wouldn't run into anything, as my thief is a level 58 pokemon? Very Confusing...

If I get some extra time I will play around as well. My Fainted Yanma was at level 18 and my second slot Frisk Stantler was at level 6 and I got into all kinds of battles. Once I leveled Stantler up to 18, it was Chansey and Pikachu hunt time.
