this thread will be to discuss battles after they are done. my team has a video game nickname theme so when disscusing please use their nicknames. they are

That was my very first gym battle and even though you said they were youngster's...which they were...I think there is a good chance the results would have been the same regardless :wink:

Thanks for the battle and even though they weren't much of a fight they were an opportunity to make a mistake and learn from it before the big dogs take a crack at you. :-D

The Sleep Clause? Is that the one with no more then one Pokemon asleep at one time? I don't even see why people put that rule in. Both trainers can use this strategy, but there is a group of trainers that think pure sweepers are the way to go and when they get put to sleep it messes up their sweeping and they complain. My team does not use any sleep moves, but it uses other status effects and before long someone somewhere will put a battle rule to something like you can't double inflict a Pokemon with confuse and any other status effect.

Rules against Double Team and Minimize. OHKO's because they are considered luck moves and not skill.

Stick (lol Farfetch'd)The list can go on. Like Self-KO clause, Duplicate item, and even PokeBall Seals. Yes it seems that PokeBall Seals are now being considered as unnecessary mindgames. That is why Voice Chat is suppose to be turned off during serious battles, I guess this would be a Gym Badge Battle. I could see if people put rude stuff on their PokeBall Seals, but I usually put just the seals that deal with my Pokemon or their name. I could see putting You lose or U R Loser or anything to that effect, but how hardcore can you get with just 8 seals per PokeBall?


Sorry to go off topic. But there is one rule I found on NeoSeeker and I know alot of hardcore battlers think of NeoSeeker as a noob site, but this rule is one that I need to listen to a little more and I think it should be rule number one here.

Alright, so those things addressed, let's go to a few of the things you should and shouldn't do on wifi:

Play with Voice Chat OFF if it is a serious game. It can invade privacy and play into unnecessary mindgames (which nicknames and pokeball seals already do anyway).

You should thank your opponent for playing.

Don't disconnect. If it's unintentional, fine, but if it happens every time and/or just so happens to be when your last pokemon faints, people will know something is up. There is never any reason to disconnect, as you can select RUN if there is actually a legitimate reason for you to leave and do something else. Learn to use this forfeit function.

In other words, be a good sport. You agree to the terms of play before battling, and if you lose, it's usually your own doing. Don't try to pass off someone else's smart play as "cheap" to justify your loss. A loss is a loss, and we should learn and grow from those. Though, it's courteous to give someone a rematch if they ask for it, particularly in the rare case of critical hits all over the place (without high-crit moves).

To bring a little hint of the SSBM environment into this, if someone is making excuses, meet them with a stern "No Johns".

Yeah I don't see a problem with any of those items. If you use a Quick Claw over any other item in battle and you luck into a move first, more power to you. I could not justify myself using a Quick Claw, I don't like the risk involved in hoping it works.

Hax is a term they use for items that are considered to be luck items, meaning it is just luck if they work and their is no skill involved when using them. Like the 10% chance for your Pokemon to be frozen from an Ice Beam is skill. I don't see banning an Item and not the moves that have basically the same kind of luck.

I must have the worst luck of the Gym Leaders then. Hypnosis works 100% in my Gym. I wish sleep only lasted 2 rounds. I believe after 2 rounds it has a small chance to wake up. Do you use Wide Lens or Zoom Lens on your Hypnosis Pokemon?

I don't, but even so, hypnosis hit on the second turn. It is extremely rare that a sleeping pokemon lasts only 2 turns, and so, I was expecting to switch to a better matchup, and kill it.

Oh well, I'll try again next week.

That's cool, Can O' Beans is also a spiker, I just found it to be more useful for him to play the sole purpose of physical wall. Daos played his role of taking out King Koopa(I think that's it's name) and damaging Toad. I'm surprised that Queen Boo outran Luigi. (you have to forgive me if I misname some of your beasts) Too bad my yellow beast had to be a sacrifice so I could stop G before it got to rampage through my team.

Usually my team uses speed and super effective moves to win.
The strategy you used denies most of the speed advantage.
Therefore I needed luck to win.

i feel that we have more competitive battlers present in this site nowadays that our Gym are easily detected of our weaknesses.

I think your right. We have new battlers coming in and they understand the way battles work. I know I can see it in my record. Some lose the first time in my Gym, but come back and win the next battle. That is how it should be. I think the younger members just want to feel acceptable by the older members so they challenge. I feel if the Gym Leaders could give an honest and detailed battle report after the battle, the younger members would learn. I tone my replies down as not to hurt anyone's feelings. After seeing people go threw the gym 3, 4, and 5 times, I think I should really be able to tell this person why they are losing. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to tell people how to beat me and I really hate losing, but having battles that are so one sided is not fun either.

Slizer there is something I wanted to say ever since you battled my Gym. I don't want to sound mean or hurt your feelings. Truthfully your team is not put together correctly to beat any Gym on the site. You have to many random Pokemon. No 2 Pokemon combine to complete the other. I really really want to see everyone that has an interest in battling do well. I think I will start that battle/breeding event soon.

Please don't take offense to what I said. I was just like you, I only battled in game and never battled another real person until the first battle in my Gym. It is easy in game because most of the time you are 10-20 levels higher then the opponent.

You have to throw out everything you think you know about battles from the game and start thinking what will they do with that Pokemon. You don't have to know every Pokemon. I keep a cheat sheet handy for each battle. That is something I will go into detail on when I figure out how I want to do this battle/breeding event.

Yeah, I used to like that strategy too. Just look at my avatar...
Tired that technique against Bug for Beacon badge and lost a very close battle the first time we battled.
I gave up on that technique and I have won 4 gym battles in a row.

THIS IS HOW TO WIN GYM BATTLES.

Quality IV breeding,
Proper EV training, and
Super effective attacks again type weaknesses.

I have a new Mixer on my team so was happy using Omen as my starter, after all that is why i built him, to set up a few arrangements and then happily switch out or die :)

If you clean mine up I like the Text and Text colors theme. That is Dark Orange and Navy. Can't use Yellow and that sucks he-he.

Hmm yh, i have got some on reserve, but im not sure which 1s to use. Ive got a bunch ev bred, just need to think of move sets. Thing is, if you didnt start with king kupa the battle may have been different, i mean there 2 pokemon that if you start with them i cant win.
