I have noticed that when discussing battles, everyone specifies the Tier to be used, the number of pokemon to be used, the item rules, and a number of other "house rules"

But it is taken as a given that you will be battling one on one. Doubles battles are a fully supported feature of Wi-Fi, and a number of Pokemon seem specifically designed to be doubles battlers (Plusle & Minun) or have abilitys that are (Storm Drain, Lightning Rod).

So why does this never come up?

Or do I just need to start challenging folks?

Well, doubles battles do change the strategy a bit. Lots of things that work in singles don't work, and vice versa.

If you are used to your speedy sweeper one-shotting whole teams it is a bit of a shock when you one shot one opponent only to have the other one destroy you.

But it's actually the change in tactics that make me prefer doubles matches. There are more variables to keep track of.

also being aware of your other pokemon when using moves such as earthquake, magnitude, and surf because you may defeat your opponents pokemon as well as one of your own besides that i wouldnt mind doing any double battles with someone although i will probably lose
