Ground Zero at the Boulder Gym Tournament

Hello all. This tournament will be a tournament that will consist of 3 Rock Pokemon and 3 Pokemon of you choosing, as long as they all 3 have the same Typing. The rules are simple, Level 50 battle, 3 Rock / 3 Same Type of your choosing, No duplicate Pokémon, and no duplicate items, besides berries.


What you need to do to sign up.
Post your trainer name and FC.

Sign ups will last from the time this thread is posted to the ending date of December 9th. That is almost 2 full weeks.

At some point we will need to know your team. I will post when that time comes and who to PM your team to.


Oh did I mention the prize for this tournament?

Dual Types are encouraged. Just as long as you have 3 Pokemon with Ground Type. Your other 3 must all be the same type of your choosing. They also can be dual types. Ground/Poison Combo I think would make for a strange team. The reason that each team can choose the type for 3 of their Pokemon is due to the fact that only the Ground type is locked in for the Boulder Gym. I am really interested to see the Types trainers will team up with their Ground Pokemon.

I think I will add one more prize to the pot. I know, the Gym Leader position may not be enough encouragement to join the tournament. To the winning trainer, you will become the Boulder Gym leader and as prize number 2, I will build an IV Pokemon for your gym. 1 Pokemon of your choosing, either Ground or your 2nd Type to be used as one of your Gym Pokemon. Of course you can use it elsewhere, but I just said all that so you would not take my gift and go trading it for something shiny.

Don't shoot the messenger guys he-he. The Pokémon League Judge sent down the ruling that the Boulder Gym was being destroyed by Water types and needed a fresh coat of paint. I like the idea. Original type setting for a Gym and plus now the Boulder Gym is temporarily Rock/Bug. We so needed a bug gym, but I have grown attached to my Electric/Normal Pokémon.

yeah it kind of bothered me that the gym should have been rock but was ground. But still the only reason the gym has always been dominated by water is cuz 1st it was rock/ground 4x weakness to water. Then Celph changed it to ground/fire also 4x weakness to water.

I would like to make an extend tournament date here. I know the sign ups end on the 9th of December, but how does starting the tournament after Christmas sound? I figure that gives time to build a team and time for any trainers that want to sign up late, like there is always late sign ups.

That may work to an advantage there. If people are not committed to doing the tournament to be a Gym Leader, then what would happen if they became the Gym Leader and could not be around for battles?

Yes but he posted a week or so ago he will be gone until after the new year and now here he is asking for trades, battles, and signing up for a tournament. I never said anything about banning anyone. I said to read rule #12, if he would liked to be banned for 30 days I can oblige, but that would cause him to miss the tournament.

That is correct, you must have 3 Rock Pokemon and the 2nd type is your choosing as long as you have 3 of that type.

Combinations are allowed.

Like Omastar Rock/Water, Tyranitar Rock/Dark, Cradily Rock/Grass could be your Rock Types and your 2nd Type could be Poison.

Venusaur Grass/Poison, Gengar Ghost/Poison, and Weezing Poison.

First off, I'm guessing that they remember sending it to me. Ducking jury duty isn't as big a deal as not paying your taxes, but it *will* catch up to you.

Secondly, I'm not being asked to take a hill or strafe a villiage or anything. Given the alternatives, this is a pretty minor thing to ask in exchange for all this democracy I've been enjoying.

I plan on actually just sucking it up and doing it. Same way I vote every election. (Which probably has something to do with why I was called in the first place)

My two weeks is just time off from the Gym. I am making some new Pokemon, but my current Gym team was made in 1 week.

So yeah 7 days to make 6 team members to run a Gym with. That is IVs, EVs, Moves, Natures, and testing. The IVs are not the greatest, but I set a goal of 7 days to have my Gym running. I have added one new member to my team since my Gym opened. I did not breed this Pokemon, I caught it my first day playing the Pearl. I noticed that it had some decent IVs, so I tweaked it's moves and moved my Starly into my Gym Team.

My 7 day Gym Team has seen 54 battles at the Beacon Gym. My record is 41 wins 13 losses. Not a bad record for just 7 days of work.

Also I know alot of people think my Gym Team has to be IV powerhouses, so let me share the IVs of my team.

Snipe replaced Streak. Streak was replaced due to the fact that nobody uses setups here. About 96% of the trainers I have battled go right after you with attacks. Not much need of a Baton Passer if you are constantly getting hit. The advance games were built around attack first and strategy second. D/P has went a step further and it is all out attacks. I applaud any trainer that knows what a support, annoyer, or setup Pokemon is and uses them.

╬Rules Update╬

The Challenger's team will be composed of 6 Pokémon, no less.
Battles will be Level 50 Single Battles.
Legendary Pokémon(Übers) are NOT permitted in battle.
Hacked Pokémon are NOT permitted. If the Pokémon's legitimacy is questionable, the Tournament holder may request a Trade Inspection to certify that the Pokémon are legitimate and not hacked.
No more than one of the same Pokémon will be permitted in the challenger's team.
No two Pokémon will be permitted to hold the same items, Berries are an exception.I was thinking of the adding other rules like the Sleep Clause, Evasion Clause, OHKO Clause, and Hax Item Clause, but I think all those rules are asinine. Tell me you can't use certain items. Lets look at these rules, but I think they are lame.

Sleep Clause

You may only afflict one enemy pokemon with sleep at a time. You may sleep another only after the first wakes up or gets knocked out. This rule exists to prevent every game from turning into a "who can sleep everyone on the other team first" fest. Mass sleep is just stupid, because you'd have to use crappy Insomniacs or Sleep Talk on everything. When Sleep Talk allows you to choose the move used by it, then this rule will be lifted.

Note: Even if a move, such as Yawn, would not immediately put something to sleep, it still violates sleep clause if something was already asleep through means of the Yawn caster's team.

Note: Self-inflicted sleep (Rest) does not apply towards sleep clause, because the player willingly used it.

Note: Ability-inflicted sleep (Effect Spore) does technically apply towards sleep clause, so don't sleep another if this occurs, but don't freak out about it if it goes off after sleeping someone first, as this doesn't happen enough to matter.

My thinking: If you go into a battle and don't expect to be put to sleep at some point, then you should not be battleing.

Evasion Clause

Don't use Double Team and Minimize. The game becomes dreadfully dull when every game is DT x6 followed by Baton Pass to a sweeper. DTing walls will never die either. Some may say "carry haze", but the fact is, Hazers, Vaporeon aside, are very easy to kill, and you won't have pure hazers, which is what Double Team demands you to have. No need to say this would take all the fun and skill out of the game.

Note: Abilities such as Sand Veil and Snow Cloak are fine, as those are conditional.

My thinking: I still say there is alot of never miss attacks and moves to counter Double Team. I notice this rule mentions Double Team and Minimize, but nothing about Sand-attack or Mud Bomb. So I guess it is O.K. to lower your opponents chance to hit with their moves, but don't you dare make your Pokémon hard to hit.

One-hit KO Clause

Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, and Sheer Cold don't belong in competitive play. Bogus random kills are just luck and don't reflect player skill in any way.

My thinking: I think if you are O.K. with trying to use a move with 30% chance to hit, then you deserve that K.O.

Hax Item Clause

Bright Powder
Focus Band
King's Rock
Lax Incense
Lucky Punch (Yeah, like this matters, amirite?)
Quick Claw
Razor Claw
Razor Fang
Scope Lens
Stick (lol Farfetch'd)

The above items don't belong in a competitive atmosphere, as they are luck-based and don't reflect player ability.

Note: Just because I know someone is going to ask: No, Focus SASH is not one of these. Keep your items straight.

My thinking: Same thing here, how are these luck items? they are chance items. You run the chance of them not working, but I guess you are lucky if they do? Not really you know they have a chance to work or not and that does not sound like luck to me.

Self-KO Clause

Moves that KO the user or rely on the user being KOd (Destiny Bond, Explosion, Memento, etc.) are not allowed to be used if the would-be user is the last Pokémon remaining.

My thinking: Self explanatory, the only other rule from this list that I like. How can you be the winner if you K.O. your last Pokémon in the process.



Duplicate Item Clause

Some choose to play under the circumstance that no two Pokémon should carry the same hold item. Many reject this on account that Leftovers is often the best item for each of their Pokémon.

My thinking: We use this one in Gym battles. I have been seeing around the web that this rule is almost ignored anymore. I have mixed feelings on this rule.

For the self-ko clause, if they are both the last pokemon, and one of them uses explosion, etc, and they both faint, then the user loses. That's hows they do it on the tv. console games.

Thisare all that matters. The other rules are rules I found on the web and just wanted to get out to see what other people thought of them. They kinda sicken me. Besides the Self K.O. Clause, I think the rest are made based on how the person that made them can help him win. Duplicate items I am on the fence over. Every lame rules I found on the web has away to counter. Double Team can be countered, but in todays game of attack until it is dead, people don't want to have to play strategy beyond which Pokemon can I switch in to kill this Pokemon.

I believe in the "no duplicate items" clause because item hacking can not be detected. Loading up your Pokemon with low accuracy/instant KO attacks and an item that insures you hit is just broken.

Well, at least one of the types would have to be rock, because that's the type that the boulder gym uses in the game. You'll probably notice that all of the pokefarm gyms have the in-game gym type as one of their gym types. It's for authenticity's sake.

i think i would need a bit more time... I am new to this EV/ IV Stuff and it is difficult for me to do one pokemon in 5 days so if i have 6 pokemon to do then that will take a month! Luckly for me Taterbud has offered to give me a power item to help me so i will try to be done in 2 weeks!

I think you are missing the fact that I have said 18 times, you don't need to have your team finished, I just want to know the teams. I want to see who is still interested and who just wanted their name on the big list. I need to make the brackets yet. Christmas is a week and a half away. So 2 full weeks until the tournament could possibly start, that is more then enough time to get a decent team together. Everyone is going threw the same process of building a team, so everything should be even there. If I have to I will set a start date for the tournament, those who don't get me their teams will not be in it.

It has been almost a month. The tournament was posted on 11-28-2007 and the tournament is set to start after Christmas, so about 12-28-2007. I am not putting you down, but I built my Gym team in a week. I built a Pokemon for Nak's Gym team in 2 days, would have been quicker but I was picky.

almost all grass type and water type moves are base sp attack and almost all rock type pokes uses a moveset base on attack so i dont think water pulse or grass knot could ko a ground type with jsut one hit..and earthquake could with just one hit.and yeah there is going to be other type but there is 50 porcent that you could remain with 1 poke of rock type and the foe with the ground type if bugcatcher let us use ground type..and i am not going to run on making a new team...so if i am making a hole new team i need more than 2 weeks..cause i jsut finish the team for the tourment so i dont agree with the ground type...

You only need to submit to him your teams to make sure that they meet the requirements and rules, and that they remain consistent throughout the tournament. Trade checks will be conducted only if the legitimacy of your Pokémon seem questionable. And I sure hope that you weren't just referring to me as 'whoever' lol :p

It has been decided in a closed thread that Magma Krystal has had trouble showing up for tournaments. Justin has showed rudeness to other Gym Leaders and does not have easy access to wi-fi.

The jury is still out on cowmoo83. I don't know if we can have a member that is banned or always in trouble representing a Gym.

What does this mean to the rest of the trainers in the tournament?
That means I have all the teams and we can start setting up the brackets. This does not mean the tournament is going to start. It will now start on the 28th of December. That is 12 days to finish up your teams.

Please understand, this is not an attack on you on. You are welcome into tournaments. I just wanted to make sure this tournament had nothing stopping it from being a success. You have to understand though, I just needed a team to check that you understood the process and were participating in the event. If you could not turn in your team, how could I think you would be there for the first battle? You could change your team at anytime after PMing me your team, just as long as you PM'd the changes.

It has nothing to do with your qualifications. It is dedication. No shows for tournaments, regardless of how important the tournament was, you requested to join and then never showed. ad9666I would like the tournament to start on the 28th of December. That is days to finish your teams. I think having the tournament over the weekend would help with having all participants available.

╬Rules Update╬

The Challenger's team will be composed of 6 Pokémon, no less.
Battles will be Level 50 Single Battles.
Legendary Pokémon(Übers) are NOT permitted in battle.
Hacked Pokémon are NOT permitted. If the Pokémon's legitimacy is questionable, the Tournament holder may request a Trade Inspection to certify that the Pokémon are legitimate and not hacked.
No more than one of the same Pokémon will be permitted in the challenger's team.
No two Pokémon will be permitted to hold the same items, Berries are an exception.

Good thing geezer. WestCoastNinja decided to quit as the Forest Gym Leader because he wanted to earn his Leadership threw battle, so I had him paired up against you.

No that is a joke. I did the brackets completely random. I wrote all the names down on a slip of paper. put them in a pile and shuffled them up. I drew one and reshuffled and chose another. Those 2 names were paired. I continued that process until all the names were gone. I wish I could have a program that I could feed the names into and it would automatically select names and pair them up. I need to get back into C++ and try to make a program to do that. Something that would do it live on the site to so everyone could see.

There is such a thing actually...................super smash bros. melee Lol, just plug that baby in, and go to tournament mode and just put however many people it is going to be in there, and it'll do all the work for you, you just gotta put the initials. :lol: That's my way of doing it.

Like I said before, this was nothing against you personally. This is the first tournament for a Gym Leader position. I kinda took the O.K. lets do a tournament and I ran with it. I wanted to make sure that this tournament is a success and we get a Gym Leader that is very active. I would also like to make sure that there is not a connection issue. Sorry Justin, but that is the driving force behind you being removed, well that and your rudeness with Gym Leaders.

I don't like playing the bad guy role, but in most cases there has to be a bad guy and I will play the part.

I would like to say though, Magma Krystal it takes a big person to admit and accept, I commend you on that.

I will have to be redoing the brackets. With the rule being added about infractions and tournaments, I will be removing cowmoo83 from this tournament. I have been thinking about it and have decided that I won't reward someone with multiple infractions with a chance to be a Gym Leader.


I will get the new bracket build and posted very soon. I could just remove cowmoo and give his opponent a bye, but that would not be fair to the other members that could have drawn a bye in the first round if the brackets were drawn with only 13 members the first time.

Don't argue this. Read the FAQ about Infractions. I made a mistake in removing an infraction. I have regretted it with every post of yours I have seen since you have returned.

That may sound harsh, but I think you got the understand that I will continue to take it easy on you. I show no mercy to anyone. I thought there was a problem with an infraction time wise, after I reversed it I found out there was no problem and you got a free pass. That will not happen again.

You have been posting almost tauntingly. You were playing a Mod on Taterbud's shiny thread. Almost everyone of your post since coming back as been a side comment towards me. I would have traded earlier but I was banned. Can I pick up the Pokemon I was suppose to get before I was banned. Constant side comments and making a point to stress the was banned.

I'm not trying to be mean here, but seriously, if you have recieved a ton of infractions and still don't know what's going on, then really, there is no place for you in this tournament. Like I told you in the PMs, you had 230+ post at the time of the infractions, being knew stopped being an excuse at 50 post. Well to me it stopped at post 1 since you should have read the FAQ and the rules of each section before posting.

The first forum i joined, i acted the same way as you did, so i don't blame you, but the only way to show that you've changed is to act like you've changed. Don't take anything i've said as a personal attack, it's more along the lines of advice. I just want you to get to a point where your actually getting rep more often than infractions. You've got much potential, so don't let your frustration get the best of you. There WILL be another shot at getting a gym leader spot, and there will be plenty of more tournaments. Now, we just gotta wait this thing out and see what happens.
