What are the general rules for how babys inherit there moves. I know about egg moves and if they can learn through TM, HM, or level up. But, Im wondering If you can learn moves that a higher evoluion can learn, but not what the baby is? Please just post the general rules for this below. Thanks for everyone's help!:D

go to the main page and then go to the archives.

there's an entry there called "Pokemon Farming: Egg moves - A how to (http://www.pokefarm.com/pokemon-farming-egg-moves-a-how-to.html)"

it's really helpful.

that's where i learned how to breed.

EXP:

Male magortar moveset

Thunderpunch
Firepunch
overheat
fire blast

You breed the male magmortar with a female magby or magmar.

And the baby will always be what the mother is and the baby will inhearit its father moves.

yep all the enharited moves are from the farther and mothers species. now if you get a pikachu holding some orb it sometimes holds when you catch it in E/S/R. if ones holding it and breeds it's child pichu will know volt tackle

I would go to the link given for the guide on the main site, it deals directly with your question. You can also check out my guide,

So you want to be a Master Breeder (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showthread.php?t=1615).

responding to T Roo...

so if the mother can learn the move then it learns it

but what if the father can learn the move, does the pokemon learn it:confused:

The father is the one that passes down the moves most of the time.
The only time the mom matters is if you're trying to breed a baby that will know a lvl-up move right away.

The child will know all the dads moves that one of that evolution can know

Except for as Viscosity has said, if they are level up moves the mother and father must both know the moves. Only exepction to this is if the level up move also happens to be an egg move for that Pokemon, which happens rarely. It happens mainly on Pokemon that learn moves in an evolved form, but the pre-evolve can learn it as an egg move sometimes.
