Omg those are great Ivs O_O
The highest an Iv can reach in one stat is 31 so you have 4 of them maxed out.

You should be very proud of your little penguin ^_^

No not at all.

But seriously, if you EV train that Empoleon it'll be sooo hard to beat XD

spursdude2

I have given it the effort ribbon so i cant EV it... how can i check EVs?

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 10:00 AM
If you don't know the EVs then that is why you have 4 stats with 31 IVs. You need to know the EVs to calculate the IVs right. You could remove all the IVs, but since it is level 100 you could only put back EVs from vitamins, which would be 100 max in each stat.

andyc15
12-02-2007, 10:01 AM
As far as I know you can't. You have to keep record while you're training. Thats why its best to start Ev training with newly hatched or caught pokemon.

If you want to get rid of the Evs on a pokemon and start over, you can feed it special berries.

@ buzz if i dont know the EVs how will i find out the IVs?
@ Andy ok i'll see if i have any

If I have any, you can have them, but I don't think I do

Edit: Feed them to your pokemon

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 10:06 AM
how do i know if they have worked?

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 10:08 AM
You won't find accurate IVs without knowing the EVs. It will show higher IVs due to the fact that your stats are higher, but without figuring in the EVs that make those stats higher.

You can't EV train a Level 100 Pokemon. You could in the 3rd Gen games, but not in D/P.

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 10:08 AM
ok... your a expert on this... what do i do :-S

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 10:10 AM
You can remove all your EVs and be left with a weaker version of your Pokemon, but you will know it's IVs. You can then feed it vitamins, 10 Vitamins per stat giving it 100 EVs for each stat. Not as strong, but the best you can do.

andyc15
12-02-2007, 10:12 AM
it might be easier to breed a new pokemon and try to pass on those Ivs then Ev train the new pokemon

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 10:14 AM
woah i think i'll leave it as it is! i checked a calculator and
Hp 0
Attack 6
Defence 29
Sp.Atc 12
Sp. Def 0
Speed 31

what should i do?

EDIT:

i might do that...
which nature and which charicteristics?

andyc15
12-02-2007, 10:18 AM
Your choice, but Id recommend a nature that increases speed.

Wait I have a question.

What do you want your Empoleon to do in battle?

Be a Special Wall, Sleep Talker, Special Sweeper, Agility Sweeper, Psychical Sweeper, or even a Swords Dancer.

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 10:35 AM
a pokemon that gives me the starting advantage in a battle... i always send him out first to weaken the foes pokemon and knock some out

shall i post all his moves and that?

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 10:40 AM
Best thing for Empoleon to be for that is Calm Natured to boost his Special Defense. His move-set should look something like this.

Empoleon - Calm

Surf
Ice Beam
Grass Knot/Protect
Yawn/Roar/Stealth RockThe 3rd move you could choose between Grass Knot or Protect. Protect would be used to scout your opponent and see what they are up to. You could see if they were going to boost stats or just start attacking. Which that would leave to your 4th move selection. Stealth Rock to keep your opponent from switching their Pokemon around. Roar to get rid of something that could really hurt you or just to get that stat booster back on their bench. Yawn is a good option, because Empoleon should be able to last atleast 2 rounds for your opponent to fall asleep.

O.O nice build Buzz.

Was that just off the top of your head?

@ buzz ok thank you buzz and which characteristic should it have?
@ Andy Is he a lord?

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 10:46 AM
No that was from Smogon. I look at Smogon for the most common builds for Pokemon and then I try to give them a little surprise of my own. That one was straight from Smogon though.

Characteristics are not something you look for. They are your highest IV, so breeding will tell you what your characteristic should be.

Well if anyone has battle my Gym and remembers my Pokemon named Garbage, well she has just had a baby sister and she is even nastier then Garbage was. She just needs EV'd trained. I am not completely happy with her IVs, but I can let you judge.

Impish Nature
23 / 22 / 30 / 23 / 31 / 26

I so wanted to have another 30 IV in there at speed or maybe attack or the heck with it I wanted HP, ATK, and SPD to have atleast 30 IVs, but getting a 5 IV beast is not that easy he-he.

Biggest thing to breeding good Pokemon, and this is something I had to learn, is finding good Dittos. I only like natures that don't lower Defense or Special Defense, but if they have good IVs I keep them anyway just to breed. I have a Ditto for ever Nature and most of them have atleast 1 IV of 30 or 31. I breed until I get one stat and then breed those with another Ditto to get another until I get atleast 3 on one Pokemon. Takes alot of time, but if you have a good IV battle partner then it is easy.

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 11:10 AM
@ Andy yeah HELP not SHOW OFF!

@ Buzz How do you do IV battling?

andyc15
12-02-2007, 11:13 AM
I only have one Ditto and its nature is Serious T.T

Gotta go guys, see ya'll later =3

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 11:15 AM
Go into wi-fi and do a level 100 battle. If only one person is checking IVs the other just runs and waits. You go to switch Pokemon, but hit summery and right down their stats and then when you have them all wrote down you run. Take those stats along with the natures and plug them into an IV calculator.

Back in the day celph and I IV tested 120 Pokemon in one session.

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 11:16 AM
what difference does the ditto thing make?

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 11:17 AM
dont you need to EV first?

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 11:19 AM
what difference does the ditto thing make?

Ditto can breed with anything, so you can reuse your best Ditto to breed a Yanma, Larvitar, Absol, and Piplup all in one day. To IV breed with Pokemon of the same type, you would have to hope both already have good IVs or hope you get lucky with the RNG, Random Number Generator.

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 11:20 AM
i need the RNG! lol

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 11:23 AM
Oh that gives me an idea, I should list my team of Ditto on my farm section. I could also maybe start offering some of my private stock IV Pokemon. Like the auction thing had good IV Pokemon for trade, but you should have seen the IV beast I kept out of the groups. I don't trade away my best he-he.

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 11:24 AM
might you be able to get me a IVed Piplup? i will give you a Event or shiney!

BugCatcher6
12-02-2007, 11:26 AM
I have never bred a Piplup he-he. I was thinking of maybe doing an event where I would build one Pokemon for a person, but can't decide on what type of contest to hold to decide the winner.

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 11:28 AM
please not a battling one! i have to go i'll PM you about the pokemon later

Jhamin

You can remove all your EVs and be left with a weaker version of your Pokemon, but you will know it's IVs. You can then feed it vitamins, 10 Vitamins per stat giving it 100 EVs for each stat. Not as strong, but the best you can do.

Another option may be avalible depending on how many berries you have. Berries #21-#26 will remove your pokemon's EVs. If you have enough, you can feed your Empoleon enough berries to comepletely strip if of it's EVs. (If you have maxed a category it should take 11 berries in that stat.) When you are left with the EV-less pokemon you should be able to accuratly calculate it's IVs, then turn of your DS without saving.

When you reload your game all your EVs will be there and you will know your IVs.

spursdude2
12-02-2007, 02:16 PM
or i could just put 0 for everything in the calculator!

Jhamin
12-02-2007, 02:38 PM
Putting 0 in the calculator won't help I'm afraid.

If you feed it EV-Reducing berries, it's stats will go down. The IVs and EVs are both giving you stat bonuses. If you know *exactly* how many EV points a pokemon has the calculator can factor them in and give you the IVs. If you don't know the EVs, you are just guessing and will get wildly inaccurate results. Until you eliminate the EV bonuses, there is no way to accuratly calculate the IV bonuses.

What you really need to know is what the Pokemon't Stats are when it is stripped of it's EVs.

Which is why I suggested the Berry/Reset the DS idea.

Does the macho brace double the EVs gotten from vitimans?

@ buzz. How many eggs does it take to get the right nature

If you are using a female or a ditto with the correct nature and you have them hold an Everstone it is suupose to be 50% chance to pass on nature. If you have neither, then it is as random as walking outside and getting hit by a bus.
