View Full Version : Yet another team building

Well, maybe not a complete building since I already have some Pokemons (assuming you don't discover some horrible flaw in my choice :p).

I currently have :
:365: Walrein
:389: Torterra
:214: Heracross
:135: Jolteon
:229: Houndoom

IIRC, that choice didn't have too many weaknesses to a particular type.

To complete this, I might need a Psychic one. I first thought of Metagross but that would make too much weaknesses to ground, so I settled for Mesprit.
Now, I don't know if this would be the right choice.

Any advice ?

A few notes to help :
- I'm just searching for possibly good ones, and haven't planned any moveset. I don't think I'll have time to EV-train them either (I barely have time to just level them).
- I don't plan to make epic battles online. Maybe once in a while but I don't have time for more
- I don't think I could get non-Sinnoh legendaries.

Thanks :)

I would suggest all non-ubers for your team, because online battle usually use the no ubers rule...

I put your team into a team builder it would be better with metagross m8.

That leaves Metagross and Gallade, or any other I haven't thought of.

Edit: thanks slizer

Grumpig, hypno, alakazam, and espeon are all great choices. Grumpig or Hypno if you want a special wall (that can still dish out special attacks), while alakazam and espeon are the best psychic sweepers.

Gallade can also be a good sweeper, though it would need paralysis/speed support.

Espeon just like all the evees has a terrible move pool. Unless you have the patience for hidden power breeding I suggest alakazam.

People forget that no Legendaries is a PokeFarm rule and not a huge rule on other sites. As long as it is known before the battle most other sites are fine with it. You won't be able to battle the Gyms here, but that does not mean you cannot set up other battles. Using a team builder also is not idea. The best team builder on the market is trial and error. I would never let a team builder tell me not to use a certain Pokemon or to use a super overused nightmare.

You might need something with a ton of Sp. Def. I'm thinking a Bastiodon, only problem is, it shares Water weakness w/ Houndoom, and Fighting weakness with Walrien.
You could also do with one of my Turtwig. They're pretty good, and I'm fixing their IVs, so expect a good one should you want it.

Did I hear Special Defense.

Real Men Use Lanturn

Small rant thank you he-he.

Isnt lanturns base sp def less then 90? The only good stat Lanturn has is a 120 base HP. Every other base stat is below average.

Buzz, I think someone should start putting up a test to see whether a person is manly enough to use Lanturn.

Buzz, I understand your sentiment, but it shares it's weakness with Jolteon.

Y'know, I did mention grumpig and hypno, both much better options than bastiodon, just sayin.

Real Men Use LanturnYou know, when I started this thread, I had looked at other advices and was nearly sure you'd say that :-D

Thanks for the help everyone.

Hypno @Choice Specs
EVs: 134 HP / 252 SAtk / 124 Spd
Modest Nature
Ability: Insomnia
-Psychic
-Shadow Ball
-Hidden Power [Fighting]
-Switcheroo

can work well, as can not giving it choice specs and replacing switcheroo with nasty plot.

Bug's looks neat, but it is probably going to be a pain to breed even if I switch psycho cut psychic.
Well, except if I can breed it from a medicham. I'll try that. Thanks again.

I'd use a special hypno if I were you, if for no other reason than it getting nasty plot.

Sooo...

I'm a step further in building my team, and I'm now hesitating about my Houndoom moveset.
It currently is
- Flamethrower (learnt at lv 46)
- Dark Pulse (bred from Lucario)
- Natural Gift with a berry for Fly
- SolarBeam

Now I've read that SolarBeam wasn't a good choice since Houndoom is more of a Hit&Run. But if I buy a Power Herb, I get a one-turn beam once per fight. However, if I do that, Natural Gift becomes useless. HELP :D
Serebii advices Will-o-Wisp but I already have Flamethrower and would lose a defense against fighting pokemons

Does anyone have a nice Houndoom moveset ?

Sywo

Instead of Solar Beam, I like Grass Knot. It increases the power if the opponent is Heavy. Most of the stronger pokemon are quite heavy so this might work: Example: Ryperior and Wailord will suffer massive damage from it.

Since Natural Gift is a physical move and Houndoom has a higher Special Attack I would change that out to save me from having to split EV's.

I like Will O Wisp. If you can pull it off it might let Houndoom last a bit longer.

Sywo: Grass Knot ? How can you breed it to a Houndour ?
belnumcree: I wasn't planning to split, just to have a fallback. Maybe it's not worth it, though.

Sywo

Didn't think about that. When I make a moveset I pick moves I like, make a big list then cross of ones that are unbreedable. There I go not thinking again lol.

Actually, can any fire types learn grass knot? I need to find out!

You just have to understand that I use that team on a regular basis, so I'm more used to it than you would be. Not that it's a perfect team, I just use them all the time. :D

Does anyone have a nice Houndoom moveset ?

I have one thing to say about this moveset, and that is that Tyranitar completely walls it. Tyranitar is considered the number one Houndoom counter in the game. Thats why most Houndoom's try to have Hidden Power Fighting to fight off Tyranitar, as well as other Dark type pokemon, like Weaville and other Houndooms.

Here is a moveset you should try:

Choice Specs:
Overheat / Fire Blast
Hidden Power Fighting (preferably 65+)
Dark Pulse
Flamethrower / Pursuit

Overheat is really powerful move with Choice Specs, and it fits the get in, hit quick and get out. You can go with Fire Blast though if you don't like the power drop. Hidden Power Fighting is already explained, and its kind of a must have since the only grass move Houndoom can learn is Solarbeam and that is just not a good move. Dark Pulse is for beating down Ghost and Psychic type pokemon. Flamethrower goes good for a late game move if you use Overheat, and Pursuit is good for hitting the pokemon that want to get away from Houndoom, and you don't get locked into Pursuit if you use it when your opponent switches out.
