View Full Version : DS wi-fi not working

So I have two homes, both with wireless access, and supposedly both where my wi-fi will work. Not so much. At one of my homes, the connection works, for a time, but soon enough it says "communication error" and disconnects. Other times it cannot find the access point. Wonderful. So, I figure it will work in my other home, since it always has before. Well, I get here and it cannot obtain an IP address. So I went to the site and tried a lot of the help things it has on there, but they require I access the wireless settings (or whatever it may be called, I am not savvy in these things) in my internet browser. There is where my problem is. The browser will not open it. I checked around and it appears that that means I should just get a new access point. I am thoroughly vexed with the situation, but if anyone has any advice or knows how to possibly fix it, I would be grateful.

In all, this means that I can no longer attend farm events at this time, or claim my shiny prize from dear Taterbud. I am pretty disappointed by this because I will not be able to get a new AP until after Christmas, and after the Christmas surprise event. Alas.

Oh, and I was not entirely sure if this was the right place to post this, or in Q&A... My apologies if it is not.

try going to http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1

those are fairly common addresses for an "access point" to take up (=

Neither of them work... Thank you though, I appreciate it. :)

What is the make & model of your router?

Do you know if your router uses a WPA or a WEP access code?

Have you tried deleting your connection from your DS's list and just re-setting it up?

Does your local libray have WI-FI?

It's a linksys WAP54G. I was going to download new firmware but I cannot access its IP from the internet.

It doesn't have a code, mostly because it seems only one laptop can access the wireless at a time if it does and my parents seem to think it's better to be able to access it all at once rather than worry about security.

I have tried deleting it, re-doing the search for an access point, manually setting it up... nothing.

Actually, I do not know. The town I am in right now does not have a library, heh. I suppose if I am really desperate I can go to McDonald's, as I think I read something about them having access, but that would have to wait until next year when I get back to a town that has one.

I have a similar router model in my apartment (right now I'm at my parent's house for holiday). The default IP address should be http://192.168.1.1. If you or your parents have not locked it with a WPA or WEP code, it's possible someone else went into your router and changed the settings without your knowledge. It's ALWAYS a good idea to privatize your wireless router. (Use a WEP access code)

There were a couple times in the past when my DS stopped recognizing my router for whatever reason. In the end, the fastest way to get over the problem was to simply hard-reset the router itself and then change the preferences back to what I had them as before.
