Im clueless about stats and natures, and what are evs?

I hope ive put this in the right place, but im completely clueless bout this stuff and id like to know more about them. Theres probably somwhere on pokefarm where this stuff has been explained repeatedly so sorry if im going over old ground. What are evs? I see everyone talkin bout em but what are they and what is ev training? I know natures affect how pokemon grow but is it really that influential? Can someone answer my bombardment of questions? :D

Just looked through these links, thanks a lot guys, a whole new world has just opened up to me :D I must say tho i never knew a pokemons stats cud be affected by the type of opponents u battled against, i always just trained in an area wit high leveled pokemon so i cud level up, thats all gonna change now. Thanx again lads.
