ok well i just wanted to know one thing, namely why are the gym battles all level 50??? wouldnt 100 be better because then all the EVs nd stuff would show completely?, and isnt level 100 cooler anyways? :)

Level 50 is a quicker battle.

Well between level 50-100 there is a major jump in stats. A pokemon lets say electivire at level 50 without evs can have 135 hp then at level 100 it could have 354, now a gym leader puts in alot of effort to get strong pokemon. Now when your pokemon get to level 100 you could have caught it at level 54, then it has no evs. So at level 54 you add the evs then at level 100 it will be nearly unbeatable. Well this is a reason i think is true im not sure. Plus level 50 is a neuteral level.
but dont the moves also do less damage so its all the same anyway?
ok the stat boosts!!! yea i get it now thanks both of you

Just to correct things, during a wi-fi battle, even if the pokemon was caught at a level higher than fifty, they level out to what they should be EVs or no.
Level 50 is just a bit more fair because then things like nightshade dosen't destroy things that have absolutely no hp.

Don't IV's make less of an impact on stats at level 50 than at level 100 too? So a challenger who hasn't gone IV-breeding crazy still has a slight chance.

I think the overall effect of the IV's at level 50 are half (roughly) what they would be at level 100.

IVs will give more benefits at level 100 then at 50 yes, but EVs are added at all levels so even at level 50, your EVs are the same as level 100. How you may ask, because they spread with each level, so if they are always there they will always be in effect. Have you ever noticed the huge jumps in stats when you level up if you are fighting something like level 2 Bidoof and when you level up a level 50 Pokemon on level 2 Bidoof you can jump up anywhere from 3-14 HP.
The lower the level you start EV training the less stat increase you notice because the game spreads them out. I have seen a level 95 Infernape jump up 36 Attack points in 1 level.
