There's alot of ways to tell, like the ID might be all 0000 or the capture location might be fake. Maxed out contest stats, and certain ribbons the pokemon has can also tell you if the pokemon is a fake.

There's quite a few different ways to tell if a Pokemon is hacked or not, it depends on the Pokemon. One way is to look at the level. All Legendaries can be found starting at a certain level, and any that are under that level are hacked, ie all level 9 and under Mew are hacked, as the lowest level Mew that is officially obtainable is level 10. Another way to tell is to look at the location. If you have a Pokemon that is normally not available in the game, and it's caught location is a location in the game, such as a Suicune in Diamond with Route 203 as it's location, it's definitely hacked. Certain Pokemon can only come from certain locations, so that helps. Ultimately, it depends on the Pokemon itself.

How can a pokemon be hacked? Does this mean if I trade at the GTS it's maybe not a real pokemon I'm getting back? Bummer xxxx

There are exceptions I have a shiny Rayquaza that is cloned. It validates with pokemon battle revolution and all info about is legit. However I know from where i got it that it is not the real mccoy, even though it is "legit".

heres how to recognize a hacked pokemon:
there name may have a few spaces after it example:darkrai_____=this is a hack and a bad one at that
they may know moves they wont normally learn example:magikarp w/focusblast,earthquake,roar of time, explosion
they may or may not have pokerus
they may or may not be shiny

this info i think is good....

usually rare legend like jirachi when they OT is AAAAAA...

because i think no one start their games with that names...also from gts i recivied in past 5 of this jirachi....so maybe they were hacked....

The 1st generation games no longer apply to the current generation, so that doesn't count.

With the advent of GTS cloning and now cloning using AR, I would say hacks are out, unless they are wanting godly IVs. It is nothing to get an event Pokémon and clone it 800 times and collect your booty.

It is easy to clone, just backup your save game file.

I thought when you traded it auto-saved after the trade?

I never tried cloning, but I made the above assumption b/c I was trading pkmn with a friend when our connection suddenly broke. However, we were still able to successfully trade our pokemon and none were cloned.

Yeah, your game automatically keeps a back up of your save file so turning off your DS during a wi-fi battle or trade won't harm your game. Thats kinda the whole idea behing cloning on D/P

Except that in my case nothing was cloned. The trade went on as normal although the connection was broken.

You use an AR to save your save game on your COMPUTER.
