Hey guys, whatthinksyou of hanging out in IRC?
For those who don't know, IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, and allows people to join chat rooms, of sorts, for talking to the people there in real time O=

Can be more convenient than waiting for forum posts, at times, and doesn't require any "accounts" to participate, unlike instant messaging services.

For those of you that've used IRC before, I'll hang out in the channel #pokefarm on the server irc.dark-storm.net.

For those of you that haven't, if you're interested in joining, consider installing mIRC (www.mirc.com) if you're using windows. And if enough people are interested in this, I can set up a web-based thing to connect there, so that you don't need to install anything but can just open it with your browser (=

We have talked about this before. Since we have younger members and it would be harder to moderate PokeFarm does not offer it. I would like to somehow get a setup chat like Serebii has. IRC is good and can be secured by offering passwords and registering members to a channel, but just hard to keep it moderated.

Not saying people can't do it.

Serebii's chat is IRC q=

Also, what do you find is the challenge in moderating it?

Basically having a Moderator on it 24/7. Hard to keep certain things from being said and seen.

Do you have a moderator on the forums 24/7?

Do you have a moderator on the forums 24/7?

Between Nak, belnumcree, WestCoastNinja, Steve, and I, yes pretty much 24/7.

So what'd be wrong with those same mods hanging out in IRC?

My wife would kill me for spending anymore time then I already do here.

Besides with me modding I can see how that will go. The entire time all the questions will be directed towards me he-he.

I'm sure someone else can cover your time zone (;

It's possible to set up some bots to answer questions or do some basic moderation O.o

And you can have all kinds of games in IRC! C=

yes you can have interactive bots
but it is hard to moderate
i came here after getting kicked off a site that had actual good moderation though
but they will take anything as breaking a rule there like my battery ran out in the middle of a battle and the guy i was battling happened to be a mod and he banned me:(those horrible mods there

You can cross me out. I can't even reach IRC from either my school PC or PSP, I don't think.

Or westcoast for that matter. He's got the same thing going on.

well, perhaps IRC-only mods can be selected? Or give the task to gym leaders?

Most of the Gym Leaders are Mods and use PSP. You can set it up if you want and monitor it yourself, but promoting it here for people to use will get you into trouble.
