Ads on the forum [Archive] - PokeFarm Forums

After some strange ads began to appear on the wide ad strip (bathing suits???) I decided to drop AdSense from the top of the forum and have instead gone with something called ShoppingAds.

These ads should be beneficial to the forum readers as the only keyword I am using is "Pokemon".

As always, if you see a problem be sure to contact me.

Yeah, it was hard to not to notice the odd dating site ones too, creepy.

Kinda weird they wouldn't tailor it to a more kid friendly "go tell your parents to buy ______ for you" type of add rather than the lonely old people adds.

Maybe next sales expansion can be into the geriatrics to help out Belnumcree in his daily life! :P

Belnum is actually pretty young, Nak just likes to pick on him, oh, and Steve, yeah, I like the new ads, they're a lot better and less "pushy" then the other ones.

I'm glad you fixed the ads. Those cheap tacky clothes ads were severely getting on my nerves. Oh, and soccergurl even mentioned seeing suicide ads. o.o

I saw some stray adsense ads on here other day. If you have any lurking about you may want to nix them as the one was advertising farm girls.

You mean the search link ones on the main site? yeah, sometimes they are not so good at matching up content to ads.

If you tell me the URL the ad was for I can block it from showing up again.

While browsing the forums, I saw an advertisment for "Pokemon Chaos Black". I thought this was not a real pokemon game.

I saw an ad for pokemon firgo returnes, so i clicked on it because i wanted to the box shot.NOTE:i knew it was hacked: Anywho you could tell it was a HACK!! It had the hero from POkemon XD:gale of darkness!!

I set the main site only to show those Google ads if you come in via a search engine. All of you should no longer see them. The ads only show up on the first viewed page via a search engine so, if someone decides to ignore the ads and stick around they will not see them again either.

OMG? $200 a month? For what? I've been doing the web site thing for a long time. I recommend to cut down your cost to move to a far less costing server. Try going down to a resellter or share hosing deal, its far cheaper. From what I've seen on this site, the biggest thing you have is the forum and the amount of members this site has it could easy run on any share host for around $30 to $50 a month. Sorry but $200 a month for a site like this is far too much money to be spending.

Steve runs like 10-200000 sites and forums I think.

Not sure if they are all tied to this server or how the cost are all tied together.

Okay that would make more sense then. If it was just this site and the cost was $200 a month I be worried. If you want more targetted adds to say Pokemon and related items I recommend using Google Ads, there safe and they pay out as soon as you reach 100 in your account at the end of every month. May be something you want to look into as you can also style them to match the layout of the site.

I run adsense on the main site but only if you arrive via a search engine. Regular readers do not click ads so why them show them?

Also, we had a problem with AdSense. Do you think Pokemon ads show up when the article is about "Farming"? We had everything but Pokemon ads showing up!

Yes, there are other sites hosted on the same server (and they do defray the cost) but this is the biggest one I have (by a large margin) on the server.

Shared hosting? Been there and got burned bad, real bad.

I'm actually selling off my other sites so soon PokeFarm will be the only site on the server.

I am also running an inline script on the main site that inserts links to products on Amazon. Sometimes there are funny results (Check the Absol article).

Will you explain how that works to me, because I bought something off of eBay last week and I think I did click on the ad once before and haven't cleared my cookies yet.

I'm tweaking the ads again.

The Shopping Ads you are used to seeing are going away. I started using that service when it was called AuctionAds and it gave me a real good return. When they sold out to a different company the income dropped off by about 50-75%.

Because the income was still decent I kept them on. Once they went to Shopping Ads the income again dropped. Now that eBay has dropped Commission Junction (who Shopping Ads used) the income has really tanked!

Because I want the forums to pay for themselves I now have to fool around with the ads again.

Right now different ads show up if you get here via search traffic than if you just happen to be hanging out here. Please let me know if there are any problem ads showing up.

No, at my home computer I do get pop-ups about how the adds don't load though. Never happens at work...

The dating adds make me sad. :sad: It only rubs in the fact that Matte is gone...

I keep getting ads which re-direct me from our site to another sponsor site. It's very annoying; I can't even load a page without it talking me to the site. I have to click where I want to go and then press the stop loading button in my browser in order to prevent me from going to the sponsor site.

Me too, it's very frustrating:sad: I can't seem to post without being directed to a sponsor site. It says it will redirect me back to pokefarm in 8 seconds.

I'm still getting them. So far I have ads for Macy's gift cards, free Snickers bars, free samples of Revlon make-up, and Coca-Cola vs. Pepsi voting.

I dropped the ad company that was showing ads on the forum but left them on the main site. I know they offer that type of ad but I specifically requested not to show that type because I find them highly annoying.

Thanks Steve. It's not that I don't like the ads, I just don't want to be kicked out of posting. The ads were pretty unobtrusive until just this afternoon, then they went a bit haywire.
