View Full Version : Bring Back Real Farming.

I have been thinking about this for awhile and even more now since Cherkat has mentioned it. I would like to make a plea to all the old school farmers.
Stop doing the week long events and go back to the select day and time event. Bring it back to the old school Farmer's Market.
We currently only have 2 farmers on the main site I believe. Maybe we do need to bring in new farmers there. That is Steve's decision. We could still do the forum farms and have leftover events or create Nak's adoption centers idea.
What I think for adoption centers. Each farmer could have 1 or 2 people working to trade out leftover Pokemon from events. Those people running the adoption center would designate boxes to the farmer and hold their Pokemon and trade them out after the event is over. Kinda like the missed farming events, but people dedicated to trading.
So many ideas that could move the farming forward into a hardcore event.
I just feel that the early forum farmers, I being one of them, pushed for Steve to make a section for those of us there were not main site farmers could hold our own events. Since then the main site roster has fallen and it seems like a lack of people requesting Pokemon. I feel as if it was out fault for the decline. I only know of 2 farmers left on the main site and wish there were more and pull the main site back up to what it was when the site first started.
Maybe Steve could add in new writers. People to write guides and such for the main site.
I am not sure how many people write on the main site anymore. Maybe this should be something I should talk with Steve about and then maybe try to find some new guide writers.
Good motivation, but I never post on the main site because the the times don't suit me, and I'm only 6 hours away from East coast. I only traded maybe once or twice on the main site (one being the Jirachi holiday special, since it was done in the morning EST).
I'm probably not the only one who has the problem : events at 2am aren't too funny when you have to wake up 5 hours later.
Limiting the day and time won't bring as much attention.
Why wouldn't you pick (or let farmers decide) a few high quality projects every week and ask farmers to breed a bit (a lot?) more of their event Pokemons ? This way the site would still attract new people while the forum will keep its "easier" (sorry I can't seem to find the English word) schedule.
Also, adoption is nice but requires a second game if you want to have enough boxes.
PS: today looks like it is my "Whine on Buzz' suggestions" day, sorry :-p

What about if there was a "forum member of the month club" were veteran forum members could submit 1 build pure month to Steve and he could pick a build and that member would get the honor of having one of there builds on the main site. :D That would be motivation enough for me to submit a build!
:o oh! and just think, if you got your build on the main site maybe you could get an egg under your name, next to the badges, so everybody would know that your build was worthy of the main site!

Nak suggest Adoption Centers awhile back. I just upgrade it a bit he-he. The person doing the job of finding a farmers leftover Pokemon a home, would not really need a second game. The adoption agent could work with the farmers and post when they have room to accept more. Say in their adoption center thread, I have 1 box or 30 beds available to Pokemon. Some adoption centers may have more room and say I have 2 boxes and 8 beds for a total of 68 beds for Pokemon.
I know with getting people onto the main site would be a trust issue. I think our members here are trustworthy, but at the same time I would not give a member that has only been here for 1 month a chance to main site farm.

I don't think there's a lack of trustworthy members, but I think there might be a lack of trustworthy members with extra PC space. x_x;;
How much space would you estimate an average Adoption Caretaker would need to contribute?

yeah plus I wouldn't want Steve's mail box flooded with new members emailing him builds everyday...I figured that the term "Veteren" would be determined by Steve and that way you would have to meet certain requirements that he would have. Just being a regular farmer on the main site is by invite only, maybe there could be an "honorary member for the month" that is invite only.
Just wishful thinking

I meant trust for giving people access on the main site.
An adoption center to me would need to have atleast 1 box. I do 30 Pokemon for every event, so I would guess atleast 18 open spots to hold Pokemon.

Well, I have one game that is completely open, I had purchased it to replace my pearl when it was lost, and then I found the lost pearl after playing the replacement one for a few months, so, I deleted the game on the old one and restarted it and I have lots of room in it, so if y'all ever decide to do the whole adoption thing, I could probably help.

Awesome. I think we could open a section in the farm forum for adoption centers, you know if they are very active adoption centers.

I also have a second game that is used solely for farming. I'm sure I could dedicate a box or two to the cause :D (Actually I had to make up a fake company name for my computer classes, so I made a pokemon related name that would be perfect for this idea!)

@Taterbud and T4L - That is so nice of you to both offer. If someone can't pick up their pokemon at the scheduled date and time, they could go to Taterbud's Happy Acres and T4L's Lotsa Leftovers, lol.

I'm in the school of thought where we have a set time and have a free for all handing out the Pokes for farm events, obviously, and I don't mind handling the stragglers who cant make the times. I know I would be bummed if I missed out on a good breed cause I was working or something! Its clearly the best way :D
But, whats the problem if you farmers don't care about doing a week long thing? It won't work for the main site at all, but the forum works for that.
And I hope we can get some articles from the forum written up for the main site, there is a hefty load of good info floating around here, just waiting for the big stage :)
The farming requests for the main site have leveled off at around 30 (My palpad is filled and then some everytime!), but that is with extra time between the articles release and the event itself.
Just my two cents :D

I did not mean it to sound like I don't like the week long events. I just wanted to push more attention to the main site. The only problem I have with week long events is, people tend to request and never pick up their Pokemon until a week later week and half, even 2 weeks later. I am not a storage bank, I need my box space for more events. That is why my farm has been so slow. I have not had the room I need for producing my events.
So maybe I need to make some changes in my farm. I can have my list and add a pickup date. The member can choose the time and day, but I will only hold onto that Pokemon for 2 days after the scheduled pickup date.
