I know we skipped February but March we are coming back!
Yes, test your breeding skills and earn a shiny Pokemon (and possibly something else) by competing in the March Breeder's Cup Tournament!
RULES:
1. No hold items will be allowed.
2. We will be using a Swiss system. If you do not know what that means the simple explanation is that one loss will not knock you out of the tournament so you must be able to commit to a full day of battling.
3. Participating members can not have more than 10 current infraction points against them.
4. Moves such as Sonicboom and Dragon Rage that do guaranteed damage points are not allowed.
POKEMON:
1. Because all Pokemon must be hatched by you this also means no legendaries.
2. Yes, I know Manaphy hatches from an egg but you can not breed a Manaphy, which makes it not legal for this tournament.
3. You can not have more than one of the same Pokemon on your team.
4. All Pokemon must be level 1.
5. All Pokemon must be hatched by you and have your trainer ID.
6. You will only use three Pokemon.
7. You can only use the first evolution of three stage Pokemon. If the Pokemon does not evolve you can not use it!
8. No baby Pokemon.
PRIZE:
1. I have a shiny Pokemon (not telling which one yet 'cause I might get a better one to give away)
DATE:
March 28 - 30, 2008
QUESTIONS:
1. Post your questions in this thread.

I am having a hard time deciding on a team, but I am in. I would like Steve to comment on the list I put up. If any 3 evolution Pokemon were missed, I am sure someone would let it be know.
Also, this is eerily similar to the B Button Tournament he-he.

Can it be 6 per team? It dosent take long to breed these guys and 3v3 is too short of a battle. Its still good but 6v6 would be twice the fun.
HMTKSteve
02-29-2008, 06:46 AM
Buzz - Your list looks about right to me.
WCN - 3v3 works best for this, I want the battles to be quick.
Bobreeder - If you want to use vitamins (or TMs/HMs) there is nothing to stop you. The Pokemon simply must be level 1 and bred by you. If you really work your butt off it is possible to get a Gible with a high enough happiness to use the Move Tutor on him to learn Draco Meteor.
lordlogan2 - As long as you have less than 10 infraction points by the time of the tournament you will be fine.

You can add all the Vitamins you want at level 1, but there is a limit to what the stat will raise to. Mostly like 2-4 points in HP and 1 maybe 2 in all other stats.
I would like to try my hand at this, but that is the weekend of my spring break and I might be somewhere that has no WiFi (I don't know the internet status of the place where I might be staying)- so how far in advance do we need to announce that we cannot participate if that happens to be the case?

Just a suggestion for a rule, no dragon rage! Doing 40 HP to the opposition, will 1HKO any of the Pokemon we can use, and with an agility, or even by itself, Pokemon like Dratini and Horsea would just pwn everyone...
BugCatcher6
02-29-2008, 02:24 PM
Dragon Rage does 40 damage.
Sonicboom does 20 damage, but nothing to Ghost.
I thought there was another move or two that did a guaranteed amount of damage? I thought it was another 20 damage move?
Bobreeder
02-29-2008, 02:35 PM
Maybe it is, but you could just ban fixed amount of damage moves, except for the Seismic Toss ones who will be useless anyway, 11-13HKOing things won't give you any award...

From what I saw in the last one, IVs mean very little at level 1. Your Nature and your move-set predicts the battle. Also being able to outsmart your opponent is key. I picked up a lot of tricks in the last Breeder's Cup. I have a lot of work to do to make my team, but I am very confident in the Pokémon I have chosen.

Hey I just have to ask Steve. Is there going to be an infraction anytime for no shows to tournaments? Just the Administrator in me, but I think when you sign up for a tournament you should show the same respect to the tournament holder you would the Gyms and have to give a notice or some kinda reason why you could not battle. It may narrow down all the sign up and vanish members from tournaments.

Yes, same as missing a Gym Battle.

Course I have OCD so changing things bother me and no showing breaks a time quirk I have. I always had to be 30 minutes early to work every night.

Yeah and i'm so excited! just curious if a Ko move was allowed. Don't know if i would use it seeing the accuracy level. As great as it would be for a one hit KO 30% is a long shot.

If you have the type advantage it is almost OHKO. Most Pokemon will faint in the 2nd round. So it is best to have a quicker Pokemon with a Stat Boost and then Attack. That is not my strategy, but one I will give out he-he.

One-Hit-Knock-Out moves are legal for this tournament. They tend to have very low accuracy.
Thea reason flat damage attacks are banned is that at level one most of those will assure a 100% instant knock-out.
Yes, forcing you to use the first stage of three stage Pokemon does make things harder if you only have access to D/P Pokemon. But, as was mentioned above, site members would trade you others if you asked them.
Also, if you think the three-stage Pokemon rule for this tournament is interesting wait until you see what I have cooked up for next month!

Yes, once your team is ready you can commence battling. However, you still need to be available during the tournament dates for battles because not all members will be able to battle prior to those dates.
This helps those who live in very different time zones (Australia to U.K) to get battles in early.
There are currently 16 people signed up so getting in more battles will help you score higher.

I was just wondering where like half the people with the little trophy badge deal are. I only see about 6 people in the battle records. My understanding was teams had to be submitted by the 26th. That is why my team was not what I wanted it to be, but the 3 I chose fit together well. I did not see the option to remove myself from the group so I figured I would still battle with what I had, there was something about an infraction that was the same level of no showing in a Gym, would it not mean if you have the trophy badge but never battle that is kinda a no show?

Just wanted to say nice battle to Pigen1, but I can't believe I lost he-he. If I would have mixed things up a bit, I think I could have won, but not knowing your team made me make the choices I did.
Still a great battle and you took a huge risk at the end, which if you missed it was game over for you and if it hit, well the OHKO you did pull off. Although I am not a risk taker, you had it working for you.
My router is up and I'm available for battle all day today until around 9 pm. PM me to battle, and I'll be able to, unless I'm already battling someone of course :)

Yeah I have not been getting my strategy to work right the last 3 battles. I have faced everything I thought I would, knowing the possible Pokemon that may be commonly used in the tournament like this. Your switched messed up my tactic.
And not to sound mean, but man you took forever to select a move. That really threw me off. I think I fell asleep twice he-he.
*sheepish* Sorry about that. I over analyze things as well as not remembering the accuracy and power of the moves my little dudes have so I had to do frequent move checks. :( I'll get better.
What switch messed up your tactic? Can you PM me about it? :)

And as for the no-shows, technically they have until the end of the day Sunday. Some people are still at work/school, have sporting events tonight, or heck...even a date.
I don't doubt we will get some no-shows, but I'm guessing that a bunch of folk will show up tomorrow or Sunday.

I'd really like a (voluntary) thread devoted to team tactics after the tourney is over. In many ways, discussing what did and didn't work was my favorite part of the January Breeder's Cup. I've seen some real creative teams and I'd like to know what people had in their heads as they were planning them. It will only make future tourneys more interesting.
I'd like that. I do hope that other Breeder's Battles have different stipulations, though, so no one can copy my team, and so that I can't just use the same team, too, of course. :-P

Well the last Breeder's Battle had very different rules than this one. My entire team from last time was illegal for this tourney. (My Aerodactyl was indeed a terror :D)
I know Steve made a comment in one of the threads that was along the lines of "just wait until you see what I have planned for next time!"
So I'm thinking that means that we are all going to need completely different teams for next time. :)
I hope so! I have a few ideas of what it might be and am already making notes for possible teams. :-P

I've seen a lot of cool teams during this match, and seen a bunch of the same types showing up on several teams.
We had already discussed having an after-tourney discussion of how we all bred our teams & what our plans were. What if we started a new thread and opened it with a list of everyone's team? HMTKSteve should ahve all that info from registrations, otherwise we can either post it ourselves or edit our battle records to include our teams and their stats.
I think it would be a real help going into the next breeder's cup.

Im not, I'm jsut saying its funny how simple things may make a difference besides you still trounced me and I thought I stood a chance...
In other news I just realized something. My team didnt have a strategy I got so wrapped up in the minutia of developing cool movesets I didn't even think of overall strategy. I also think I am the only who thought testing their team against wild starlies and bidoofs was a good warm up and indicative of how good my team was
BugCatcher6
03-29-2008, 07:11 PM
It is also funny how little things can change the outcome of the battle with level 1 Pokemon. Not bad mouthing Kay, but the time it took between move selections kinda threw me off and gave me to much time to think ahead.
I made 2 mistakes against Jhamin, 1 I should have switched after his first move and 2 I used that move that did no damage because he was immune to it, I keep getting this one move confused with another, type wise I mean.
Yeah I thought after beating WCN I had the tournament in the bag.

i didn't have much of a strategy either, all i knew is that i needed to have at least one move on each of my pokes that would take care of types they were weak against if i could, and of course a good STAB move. I just tried to make them as good as possible as easy as possible since I'm not that good at the whole chaining thing yet.
Has anyone heard from Lordlogan2?

Strategy is pretty simple, hit first and hit hard he-he. The faster Pokemon usually will do better.

I've seen a few water types. The way i see it water is not only good against rock and ground types but also fire types, covering a few bases. I actually thought about rhyhorn but his moves didn't out weigh the x4 damage i would have to deal with if i would have seen a water type or grass type. Which i have seen both of in this tourny. Thats just my thinking. (Remember amateur here:D)
@ buzz: seedot, budew and a few other that are 3 evo are grass type too. I dont know much about the stats that u were talking about b4 when u mentioned being surprised about the lack of rhyhorns but if u give them good moves stuff can happen especially in a lvl 1 battle.

50% chance to have Protect work a second time. I think it is 33% for it to work a 3rd time. I am not sure, but I think I did 3 in a row against WestCoastNinja.
So far this tournament, double Protect has worked for me 50% of the time he-he.
Bad thing is, I am not a risk taker when it comes to battling, but I took the risk on double Protect and it worked. I knew it was either try it and lose if it missed or don't try it and lose anyway. So not much risk involved in lose or lose he-he.
