Chapter 4: Ambush

The sun was barely visible below the treetops. “Braaa…” Vibrava yawned.
“Don’t give up, Vibrava!” Andy said. “Don’t you want to beat Maxine?”
“Vibrava brava!”
A sudden disturbance was felt up ahead, and Andy called for Vibrava to ease up. A silhouetted figure on a Charizard was losing altitude fast. “Oh, no! That rider’s gonna fall!” As Charizard and the rider raced toward the ground, a black cloudy mass engulfed the pair. “What the…?” Andy exclaimed.
A harsh, loud series of beeps emanated from the mass. The rider let out a yelp as one beep shattered his eardrums. Vibrava teetered and lost altitude in confusion. “Come on, Vibrava!” Andy yelled, and her Pokemon regained its course.
An explosion in the mass sent Charizard and the rider flying. Andy squinted to see a black “M” on Charizard’s back, blinking red. “Oh, no! Charizard’s gonna blow!”
Charizard, now on the ground, flailed wildly to try and shake off the item. Eventually, it went flying into the sky just behind Andy and Vibrava. “Oh, crud,” she muttered. “Vibrava, FLY!”
It was a classic scene: Andy and Vibrava sped down the path as the bomb went off. Andy screamed in fear as debris rained down on her. “Team Magnus is goin’ down!” she muttered.

<<Darkness.>>
Deoxys was speeding through the sky, attempting to reach Team Magnus’ base. <<I must reach the base…>> it repeated to itself.
The moonlit sky flashed with red light, and Deoxys turned around to see a cloud of debris racing its way. <<They’re hurting people…>>
Static filled its head, and Deoxys cried out in pain. “Deoxys! Do not doubt us!” It was the grating voice of Isabelle. “We just had to eliminate an…unnecessary opponent. Don’t forget the mission!”
<<The mission. I must reach the base.>>
“Very good. Now go. We’re waiting for you, Deoxys.”

The stars and the sliver of moonlight were the only lights guiding Andy’s way. Often, she began to doze off, but would wake up when Vibrava would go through a thermal. A bright green electronic board could be seen up ahead along with numerous cameramen dotting the terrain below.
The PA system crackled, and the announcer’s voice belted, “And there’s Andy Silverstein crossing the first checkpoint! Hang in there, guys!”
Andy dove low to one of the cameramen, who handed her a bottle of water. Vibrava landed as she guzzled the drink down. “Thank you!” she said to the man, and with revitalized energy, Andy took off once again.

“Admins!” Isabelle barked. The members of Team Magnus had assembled at the base. “Report!”
“Team A, all here.”
“Team B is present and ready to mobilize!”
“Same with Team C, Mistress.”
“And Team D, too!”
The creases lining Isabelle’s forehead softened a bit, and a wicked sneer replaced her usual frown. “Good. Everything’s according to plan…”
A man darted up to Isabelle. He panted and clutched his legs in exhaustion. “I…made…it…Mistress.”
“Good, Marcus. Did your attempt to take out that brat Silverstein work?”
“Unfortunately, I failed. I missed my mark due to the wind, and I had to be quick. If I was seen on the TV cameras, then the whole operation would have failed.”
Isabelle frowned in anguish. “Great… That stupid girl won’t stop us. Team A, is your team ready for the first arrivals?”
“We’re all in position.”
“Is…she up in the front?”
“Who, Maxine? Yes, she’s leading the pack once again.”
“Good…” Isabelle rubbed her hands together. “She won’t get past us this time; neither one of those two bratty girls.”

<<There they are… I have reached the base at last. My mistress will be so happy.>>

A loud thud sounded as a red and blue sphere crashed to the ground. The admins ran over to see Deoxys unfolding its body. <<Termination! Prepare to be Shadowed!>>
“No, wait!” Isabelle yelled. “This is not the time, Deoxys. We’ll give you the order. Now, go wait inside the holding area. You’ve done well, my friend.”
<<Thank you, Mistress.>>

"Dragonair, keep going." Maxine was well ahead of the second grove of riders, but she wanted to keep her distance from the "inferior" riders. "Why do those stupid little brats even pretend they can race? Like that snotty little Andy Silverstein… Who is she kidding? She couldn’t race a Gastrodon and beat it! Hmph!"
"Dragonair!" her Pokemon said in agreement.
Maxine rode up to a clearing with a dark building nearby. "Someone’s here…" she muttered to herself.
She was too late.
A swarm of black and silver Metagross surrounded Maxine and Dragonair and began to pound on the pair. "Get…OFF! Dragon Rush now!"
Dragonair glowed orange and emitted a cry as it prepared to strike. However, a Meteor Mash sent it heading toward the ground. "NO! FIGHT!"
Maxine sat in anger as Dragonair hit the ground. She jumped up and assumed a fighting pose, but was grabbed by two strong men. "What are you doing?!" she barked at them. One of them punched her, and her body fell limp. "No…"

Two hours later, Andy was riding the currents of a man and his Salamence. She saw a Ninetales and a girl stopping at the edge of a clearing. She recognized it to be Sarah, one of the people she ate dinner with. Two figures dressed in black approached Sarah, and one punched her before dragging her away toward a forbidding building. "What was that?!" she exclaimed. "Hey, mister! On the Salamence!" she called.
"Did you just see that, too?" the man asked. "That poor girl!" His Salamence fell back to coast alongside Andy and Vibrava. "I’m Cyrus."
"And my name’s Andy; nice to meet you. Let’s go land down there."
"Are you crazy?! They’ll capture us, too!"
"Not if we land on the roof of that building and surprise them…" Andy smiled as her new plan formulated in her head. "OK, here’s the deal…"

((I believe my longest one yet, but at least it's fresh! Enjoy, and thanks again for reading!)
