Yes I know the name is not very original. I know I have done 2 classes and both have went bust. This may be different. I am planning on having another class, like I mentioned before. This will be more based on the first class, Farmer's Apprentice. The Academy will teach people how to breed and hopefully be able to increase the difficulty for each class. Introducing all phases of breeding. Starting with just building a move-set with eggs moves, TM, and level up moves. Increase that to Nature and IVs. Bump that to building a battle ready Pokemon.

I am still working on the details and I may even have a new prize thanks to pokemasterSD and HMTKSteve. The prize I will have to wait until all the details have been ironed out and approved. In the event of getting things moving, keep an eye out on 2 members of this forum that were the top Student in Farmer's Apprentice and Breeders & Battlers. Trying to figure out who they were? Well one the Farmer's Apprentice that impressed me the most, was a female and the Breeder & Battlers student that impressed me the most was male.

Wow some interest already. O.K. first I see people asking about dates. I cannot give them. This is going to be a combination of everything the other 2 classes did and I am adding in writing assignments. What what what? Yes there will be some small minor tiny writing projects. I am taking everything I put together when I started the first named farm on the forum.

First I would think maybe I will look for a few teachers. I need 4 of them. Before you say it, yes I said I was done with having extra teachers, but with these new ideas I am having for this ongoing class, I need to cover some areas I am not an expert in. Yes there are a few areas I am not perfect in.

So before you already figure you cannot be a teacher, forget about breeding or battling, I can cover that, although if you know some of it or the basics that would be awesome. I am also looking for teachers that have a good knowledge of writing and art. Members that have a good knowledge of creating art on the PC and programs to do it with. Yes if you know how to help people design their own art, not perfect art, but art of some type, then you could be a teacher. As a writer, I am not looking for the next Mark Twain or J.K. Rowling, I just need someone that can help people find their creative side and help with structure, grammar, and spelling.

What does all this have to do with Pokemon? Absolutely nothing, but it will help your events draw in more people with stunning stories.

Now assignments, some could be a 1 day assignment. Others could be multiple days or a week. You will not be seeing 2 week projects. Some projects will even be more of an overnight homework assignment. It could range from a question and answer PM, with the questions coming from my guides, yes reading will be required.

So yes there will be breeding and reading.

Knew more about what, this class?

It is to teach people breeding, moves, farming, events, and just about everything else that goes with it. I can't get into anymore detail without giving away all the projects ahead of time.

You could always teach and use your Hidden Power. You could sign up as a student under the topic of polishing your events. You could sign up as well and play along until the battle portion. I am thinking each semester, yeah there will be multiple parts, I will give a description of what should follow and who is interested. That way current farmers are not left out of anything.

I cannot give projects or events or any dates. This class is going to be fluid. One project may change if there was a problem I noticed in the previous project. So if I say project 1, name your farm, Project 2, create a background story for your farm, Project 3, create a banner for your farm. Then I see trouble with people writing a good story for their farm, I will not go onto making a banner, I will change project 3 to write a story for your first event. Something to help people get creative.

I meant you don't need a farm and it is better if you don't. All I said in the other post was if you wanted to be a student, post. Having a farm is something you will learn if that is what you want to learn.

There will be multiple areas. Anyone can sign up and when they answer my questionnaire, then they will know what they will be doing and I will know what to be concentrating on.

So yes nettie you can apply if you want and wait to see the questionnaire.

If you do need any help by the time May rolls around I will be happy to help though, even if just tips on how to use Photoshop or something (not actual "teaching").

Well even though I don't think I am one of the two students you mentioned in the first post buzz, I did learn a lot and would really like to continue my studies. Obviously if I had learned it all I would be running an effective farm by now but alas I am still a Padawan in Jedi Master clothing. If you can fit a assignment on "confidence boosting" and "How NOT to a perfectionist ALL the time so you might actually get something all the way completed", both of those lessons would be great for me personally. :(

So yeah if I can I would like to throw my name in the hat for admission into your next class. :D

I can tell you that there will be prizes and there will be a one time prize. That means only 1 person from each class can win this prize per class. So I guess you could call it an award or maybe class Valedictorian.

I'm more of a self-paced learner most of the time, but it is so tempting to ask if I can sit in on the lectures. I don't know if I want to join yet or not.

There will be time limits for events, but I am going to try and have more of the projects in threads for others to view. So that would mean you could go at your own pace and try the projects out, but would not be in the running for prizes. I would like to do things in a semester run. I know people can do things at one time of the year and not another, so if classes ran for awhile and then took a break and started up again, new people could join and older students could take a semester off and then jump back in later.

Very interesting. I am not sure what your fascination is with low IV Pokémon, but that makes me think about some of the IV projects I am working on. It is one thing to breed for high IVs, but being able to breed for a select IV could be tempting. I could maybe breed some Pokémon and let students pick one and then tell them breed me a Pokémon showing this IV from the parent. Good or Bad as long as the IV I request is passed, then you pass he-he.

The thing with low IVs, RNG will always mess up your weak Pokémon. I have found that about 80% of the time, RNG tends to be 16-24 IV. About 15% is 0-15 IV and the last 5% is 25-31.


I have a lot of off the wall projects lined up and even more that I will think of. That is why I am not listing events yet, because it will change based on what I think I need to introduce. Plus the projects may be dependent on if I took my medication or not. I have been off and on with my meds since my accident in June. For like the last 2 months I have not touched my medication, so if I can somehow get back into taking it regular you may see a lot more projects with some sanity to them.

So far though it looks like the meltdown from the last class event is keeping teachers and students from signing up.

I would like to mention this is going to be completely different. I have one other idea I would like to run by Steve here soon.

The art would be to get people into making small art for their farm events. That is where writing would come in as well. I always find farm events that have big stories or nice art to be really awesome. I am not a great story teller and I am not a great artist, but when I started putting stories in my events, other farms started following suit and I see a lot of good writers. If we had people work with others to help out with farm event presentations, then man would they be awesome.

Actually with art, just knowing how to operate programs like Photoshop or Gimp could be helpful as a teacher. You could not teach drawing over the internet, but you can teach program features.


Also I am trying to find a download for an art program that all students could get a copy of. Right now I would think from FileHippo that Gimp would be the top free one to have students using.

I believe belnumcree is a big fan of Gimp, or was it that he is a Gi er um nevermind.:D

Anatomy would deal with breeding Pokemon and chaining moves.

Like I have said to others, even if you know how to do some things, joining gives you a chance to show off what you know and learn what you don't.

I have ideas for helping people plan their farming events, trying to make them sparkle. I guess we could bedazzle it he-he.

You would not have the time to build projects, but you would have the time to create projects and answer questions from 10-20 students?

Were the other classes time consuming? Yes. Did people over do it? Yes. I gave a week to build 1 Pokemon and in most cases I gave 2 weeks plus. I built an entire Gym Team in 1 week. I still use most of those Pokemon today in the Gym. People try way to hard to impress me and did very little to do the actual project.

Maybe I should have a Home Economics class to teach how to manage time in Pokemon.

Physical Education or Gym Leader would be the teacher that would work on showing people how to breed battle Pokemon. Not just the IVs and Natures, but making move-sets and Pokemon work as a team and not as individuals on a team.

If you need a person to make sure that all the students have proper grammar in their written projects, I'd be happy to do that for you. I have already been required to memorize most of the writing rules in my Writing class at the beginning of this year.

Thanks Babael for being my Teacher on the last project :) Sorry for not pulling it off for a win, but you taught me to breed for power, and even when I didn't want to put moves on the pokemon, you were right there assuring me that it would work :)


Your projects in breeders and battlers were awesome. What I liked and planned for were some of Babael's traits to rub off on you. I could see that in the projects, yet they were still very nettie.

Not to toot my own horn, but I believe I have a knack for putting people together.

I am not sure how it came to be in the first event, but I think if I remember right it was Nak that had you use Hidden Power on the Poison Meowth project, which kinda became a trademark of yours. Babael I believe had you going a bit more defensive in your battling projects. Which I knew you had a flare for straight up attacking, so pairing you with Babael was a project of mine. I wanted to see if I could get 2 styles to mess and make one great battler. From your projects, I could see both styles and it was scary.



So for this go of breeding, I would like to get some teachers that have their own ideas for projects. Not all projects need to be breeding. I would like to work on Naming your farm, writing for your farm, and creating art for your farm.

I would like to work on building a team, trying new Pokemon and not just the OU ones, and building combos. I would like to add in double battles as well. By building combos I mean, having a team that one Pokemon can setup or start and then a switch to another Pokemon.

A good combo I use on my Gym team is, I will have out Electivire and once the opponent brings in say Infernape, I can kinda figure Earthquake is coming, so I switch to Starapter. So then I can figure on Infernape maybe using Thunder Punch, so I would bring in Electivire again. Now what if it is not Infernape and I could see an Ice attack being used on Staraptor to counter me switching in my Electivire? Well I have a Miltank with Thick Fat which will halve the Ice damage.

Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your team is vital. Knowing how to counter your weakness is what leads you to the Elite 4.

But I'd like to help with writing - I've been doing a proofreading course by correspondence, so I think helping in that way will help me to develop my proofreading skills further. That is why I was thinking of having more then just one teacher. If we have more then one teacher for the same class, they could each make projects, but keep them kinda simple. I don't want to get to hardcore with it. I am handing out a Golden Combee not PHDs he-he.

As far as teaching people how to pass moves along, that roll would be left more to just answering questions people would have. The projects would be left to test how well they do. Now if you have ideas for a project that had Pokemon and moves to pass, like my favorite is kinda from my first class here.

FacadeNow I know Facade is not a fire attack and Sunny Day has nothing to do with Rattata other then removing Sand Storms or Hail, but it could power up Flame Wheel some. Facade, use Flame Orb to activate Guts ability and thus you would have a STAB Attack with double the power from being Burned and double the power from activating Guts. So what would the 4th move be? Anything the student wanted it to be, but more points if it helps the move-set. What move would help this move-set? Depends on if you want to use Sunny Day or not. If you use SUnny Day first that activates Flame Orb after the first round or you could use Protect as your 4th move and get a free and no damage Flame Orb round, minus the burn damage, but I am not 100% if that would kick in the first round..

It can be done. I would take it that each of you are great in certain areas and in other areas not so good, so maybe you all could put something together.

Like I know Taterbud, I believe she helped pokemasterSD with learning Photoshop, to which he took off on his own and became great at it. So even if it would be helping someone learn to make the programs do what they wanted them to do.


Also I just have to throw this out. I was thinking of having students download GIMP from filehippo. Does anyone know of any other freeware program that could be easy for people to download and use?

I am a paint person myself. I use MGI Photosuite as well.

Is GIMP an easy enough download for people to do? I don't want to make people feel like they need to have it, not everyone will be an artist.

Well said. I love paint and have made my art on it for years. The only reason I am thinking about GIMP for myself or for others is the transparency feature.

Sounds cool. Transparency is the biggest part of making art pop on the web I believe. Anyone can make a 2D image in paint, making areas transparent can make for clearer edges and rounding images for more detail. Not that it is a major thing, but it helps give a wow factor.

Making projects and running the event takes up more time then when I am just breeding. Breeding a Pokemon takes me about an hour to get 30 eggs and about 30 minutes more to finish hatching them if I was hatching them as they were created. It takes roughly 45 minutes to IV check them. When I am doing a project for class it takes me an hour to research one Pokemon if I am doing a project where I select your Pokemon to be built. That is an hour for each Pokemon and most projects I do have atleast 4-6 Pokemon, that is also an hour for Pokemon I research and don't use for the project. I then spend about 15 minutes or so answering questions, which can be anywhere from 1-20 questions a day. Then I have to grade them, which takes about 30 minutes per project, sometimes more depending how detailed I get into the grading.

So teaching a project is not just about handing out homework, answering questions, and waiting for the reports.

Mac Paint?! I'm offended.

The gimp started on linux and therefore can still be used there. It also works on macs.

As for mac we apple users have quite the little community of third party application developers.

For pixel art (sprite editing) there is the fantastic pixen. (free)
Pixelmator ($50) great program

Seriously though with Gimp, when I go to change colors. I select the color I want and when I go to add it, I get gray. I can also add black and white to pictures, but nothing with color. I have no clue what I am doing and the help feature does not work. Keeps saying it is missing a file.

Using Gimp, if I have an image and I go to change the color, I select my new color and when I go to add it I get gray. I can use white and black, but any color I try to add it turns gray.

Probably the idea is to make it transparent in another program. But I'm not an art teacher, I can only use programs like photoshop in a limited capacity. *awaits tutelage*

Still looking for an Agriculture Teacher. Basically you would teach people how to layout their farms. It really is a combo of Art and Writing, but more in the lines of what to do to make your farm stand out. Like signature Pokemon, moves, items, anything that when people would make people think oh yeah that farm is awesome.

I am planning on sending PMs to students here soon. Remember it is learn at your own pace, so if you can't do something right now, you can still be in the class. The first few projects will be pretty simple.

Hmm, as for passing moves. I can breed anyone participating a Smeargle, since it's the king of passing egg
moves to the ground egg group members. You can choose a pokemon with a lot of egg moves and require them to pass 2-3 egg moves to the offspring.

Oh I have ideas of my own, I just wanted to make sure anyone wanting to teach a class has ideas already. I also thought of a side game to kinda tweak battling and even maybe readjust the tiers while I am at he-he.

When I first started farming I was one of those, I don't need a Ditto or Smeargle to do my breeding. I am a Master Breeder. Um truth is save time use Smeargle if possible and Ditto and Natures are awesome.

Moral of the story, don't be a Buzz, ask for help and use the easy breeding methods the game gives you.

If you breed Smeargle to get awesome IVs, he is a great breeding tool. I did things the hard way for a long time until I had to make my Gym team and I need to breed in a hurry.

Yeah I was shocked to learn that Smeargle was perfect to breed with my Jolly Female Chimchar.

You cannot teach Smeargle moves in a wi-fi battle. The best way is a doubles battle ingame. There is a couple south of the daycare that does doubles battles and their is that 7 Star Restaurant that does doubles battles. I think it is called 7 Star.

Anyway, now that I think of it that would be a very lengthy way to do it, because you'd have to wifi then move tutor then wifi, up to 4 times. It'd be more time consuming so defeat the purpose anyway.

I give a project and then give a date of when it needs to be finish, so the time is whenever you have time to work on it as long as it is done by the due date.

This will be the last week to sign up for now. Each project though I believe we can add new people, but the grades will be a bit lower for you at the end.

I have been talking to belnumcree and we came up with an idea for a class project for this event. I am taking my idea of How to build a monster and belnumcee's ideas from Pokémon Strats and the class projects will be designed to work on the battle tiers.

Each project will pit select Pokémon against each other. You will select one Pokémon and build it to be the best, but then you will battle the other students to see if the Pokémon you selected can hold it's own against Pokémon with like stats.

We will be concentrating on Under-Evolved Pokémon and where they should be placed within the current tier system.

Smogon has built a great tier system, but they put the NU and UU Pokémon together and that creates a kinda OU and UU tier within the UU tier. Under-Evolved Pokémon get even less love and is even less balanced as a tier, so this class will try to bring a balance and include every Pokémon into a tier.

So the time is now to decide if you want to take part in a technical battle event. Anyone can join as a student, teacher, or as a researcher maybe. Students would be more researchers instead of students. You will get to learn things along the way, but it will be your research that decides the what happens to the Pokémon.

I know Babael signed up to teach, but truthfully we all can join in. I want to join in myself. I would think that anyone needing help on a project can ask Babael or myself. Actually I think any Gym Leader could answer questions for you. I am thinking maybe having the question to be posted in a thread and the forum can help answer.

This event is being geared to research and discovery, so all can join.

Also each project will end with a battle like I said, but there will also be a shiny Pokemon prize. With the person working the hardest getting the Golden Combee at the end of the project.

That is a very good question. I have asked about this. I asked for a seperate section kinda like the PokéFarm Awards area. I hate to have an area just for my ideas, but I believe with the changes to the battle tower, there may be room there for the Academy.

This project is not based on grades like the other projects I did. So missing a week or so won't really change anything.

You will still get grades, but it is only cosmetic.

I have the first project made up. There will be a total of 9 Pokémon to choose from. I think a few days before the start of the project I will list the projects and let each member select what they want to build and try to make the groups.

I can tell you that the first project is designed to introduce 3 Pokémon that are in the NFE(Not Fully Evolved) Tier into the NU(Never-Used) Tier.

There will be 3 options, with 3 sub-selections.

Basically there will be 3 groups labeled like, Fire, Water, & Grass.
You pick your group. Say you pick Fire.

The Fire sub-sections would be,

Charmeleon
Qwilfish
SunfloraYou may choose one to build, but there will be a select number of how many people can choose one. If we have 9 people, only 3 can choose Charmeleon. You will be forced to battle against your strength and weakness.

After you battle you will write a small report on how each battle went. This will help determine if Charmeleon is to weak, to strong, or just right for the NU Tier.

Now how will this teach battling and breeding? Well if you select Charmeleon, you know you will be facing a Qwilfish and Sunflora. Battling a Sunflora should be easier, so you need to find away to make Charmeleon able to handle the Qwilfish.

Now Qwilfish is not exactly super weak to the Sunflora. The battles are mainly geared to test the limits of the NFE Pokémon against the Tier it will be entering. I would say right now, about 90% of the Pokémon we will be testing will just go into the NU Tier, but after awhile maybe there will be changes to test other tiers.

That is where teachers or others can help decide what Pokémon to test. I have a goal of moving the NFE Pokémon into tiers. However if someone else has an idea of a Pokémon that is listed in the UU tier and thinks it may be to strong or to weak for that tier, we could test that out.

There will be 3 main groups to select from. Each group will contain 3 Pokémon. 1 Pokémon will be a NFE(Not Fully Evolved) Pokémon and the other 2 will be from the tier the NFE will be moved to. 1 is the weakness of the NFE and the other is weak to the NFE. It will test the NFE Pokémon in the best and worst case scenarios. Based on how it does, it will be decided if it can move to that tier or not.


What I am struggling with is, is moving all the NFE to Tiers worth it? Are you going to use a Machoke if you could use Machamp? Chances are no, but if you can only use NU/UU Pokémon, and we determine that Machoke is to strong for NU, but would fit in at the UU Tier, then that makes a difference.

Also, Smogon has combined the NU(Never-Used) and UU(Under-Used) tier, I don't like them combined and would like to also study those 2 tiers and see if keeping them separate is better then having them combined.

Why don't I like them combined? Combining them creates an OU(Over-Used) group of Pokémon within the combined NU/UU tier.

With Raticate and Swellow being combined into 1 UU tier, why use Raticate when Swellow is the better option?

Raticate: base stats
HP / ATK / DEF / SP.ATK / SP.DEF / SPD / TOTAL
55 / 81 / 60 / 50 / 70 / 97 / 413Swellow: base stats
HP / ATK / DEF / SP.ATK / SP.DEF / SPD / TOTAL
60 / 85 / 60 / 50 / 50 / 125 / 430

Now looking at them there are slim differences. Total stats are separated by 17 points, but speed has a spread of 28 points. Which would mean Raticate would have to be perfect Nature, IV, and EV trained to outrun a poor IV and 0 EV SPD Swellow.

With the Guts ability, Swellow gives the best chance to pull off a beefed up Guts fueled attack.

If you look at other Pokémon it becomes more apparent how the stats and typing would create 2 ranks within the Smogon UU tier, so that is why I like the NU and the UU tier.

My girlfriend's little cousin(12) was traumatized when I told her I just get rid of the weak pokemon I have no room for them. She was like but they all deserve a loving home. After that I feel bad whenever I release a pokemon.

I feel the same way. The C.W.A. Stables were started with the motto of, all Pokémon get good homes. All Pokémon and not just the so called best.

I think that each and every Gym Leader has showed that Pokémon from the lower tiers can hang with the upper tier Pokémon.

I want to mainly look at Pokémon that has a 2nd stage or was once a no evolve Pokémon that may have just got a new evolution. PLus I kinda have a thing for the NU/UU tier and I would like to expand the field there and maybe draw others to the group.

The thing with ones like Electabuzz and Electivire, so far I am basing the tiers off of their total base stats. If Electabuzz's total base stats would be to high for NU, I would check the top and last total stat Pokémon in the UU tier. I would think though that Electabuzz may fall into the BL tier.

Rhyhorn family would be another group I could think of that got a new evolution and needs to bring it's previous status back to Rhydon. Also if Rhyhorn could find it's way into the NU tier, the NU tier would gain a Ground type that it currently does not have.

That is another goal, to find Pokémon with types that are not currently found in the NU tier. Fighting comes to mind, but there are others.

That was another draw to this project. I figure even if you are wanting to build the worlds greatest Garchomp, you still have to start with a Gible.

So why not test this Gible and see how he ranks compared to the other Pokémon with base stats similar to his.

Also if you read my tier thread it can give you a general idea of what each tier is made of and what all the OU, BL, UU, and NU talk is about.

The thing with Pikachu is that both Pikachu and Raichu are in the UU tier. Pikachu is one of the few NFE's that make it into the tiers. Only if Pikachu is holding a Light Ball though.


That is why I am thinking of making projects a bit longer. Some time to discuss and think of every possible outcome before breeding and battling them.
