O.K. I download Gimp the other day and was not liking it. So I got a cheap copy of Photoshop. I have been playing around some and I am atleast understanding some of it.
Plus my help for Gimp was from belnumcree which was through Pms and that meant I had to read and then put it to the program. Not ideal teachings, but I did learn a few things. Now with Photoshop I have Taterbud helping me through IM, which is real time help and we can go step by step. So much nicer then trying to read and react.
belnumcree you helped me a lot with Gimp, but I believe Photoshop is where I will stay for awhile. So with Taterbud's help and a few trial an errors, here is my first animation.
Please don't laugh, wait go ahead I was laughing at it the entire time he-he.

Sorry the canvas size was set up to be 684 pixels wide and 240 pixels high for a banner.

That would be awesome. I was having trouble saving the animation and Kate was not sure on how to save it. She said ask pokemasterSD. I said is he online and she said yes. So she was in the process of asking you when I found how to save it right.
I was saving it as a straight GIF instead of save for web.
With Gimp I could not play around and figure out stuff like I am with Photoshop. Also Gimp does not have a help file included like Photoshop does he-he.

As I work on trying new things, I believe the line will be a bit smaller, but just enough to show the ball trail.
I agree though, I could have done it with just the ball, but I like seeing a trail, maybe once I get a bit better I can make the tail fade towards the tip.

Wait till you learn flash, it's going to be a blast. With flash you can do so much, it's crazy. Definitely a kool program to learn. Another one i fell in love with, is after effects, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, that program has got some serious koolness! You can make movies, and edit film with it. ANd you can even make 3d out of 2d images. Pretty amazing, just like in the movies. :) Photoshop is a wonderful program, and once you get to CS3 you'll have fun discover all sorts of powerful uses with it. Definitely recommend buying it, despite the steep cost if you ever decide to do something with photoshop. I'm eventually getting to buying it.

Yeah, CS3 is no joke. Although, i have been using photoshop 9 for some time and it's pretty good even if it's not CS3. It's cheaper and still functions to the same extent, minus a few kool new features with CS3. :)

You mean faster or slower?
I have the first half of the animation at 0.2 sec. The ball burst is 0.1. And the Electivire himself is 1.0 sec.

I like the timing, it gives it that "panning" feeling to it that the anime show has, you know, where the camera just moves and nothing else really does, I like it.:D

Heh heh, panning, it's when there's an image and the camera will pan over it or slide across the image to give it the effect of moving, but nothing really is, it's a bit of a cheap way to make an animation effect.:D

Anyone know of a site that shows images for the Poke Seals or ball capsule seals?
Gamegeezer
04-25-2008, 12:27 AM
@Taterbud: Yeah, but, if he increased the frame rate by a tad bit it'd be accurate to the game, kinda like he took the animation from the game, which was what i was getting at. But if it's kool slowed down, then that's all gravy. I just thought he was going for the in-game look and accuracy.
@Buzz: I've no clue dude, lol. Meybe photobucket or google images?

I cannot find anything online with images of the seal letters.
Taterbud is helping me find a font style similar to the ones ingame, but nothing has looked identical to me, but then again I don't have my DS to look.
Anyone have any suggestion on font styles that look like the ingame seal letter art?

Sprites are incredibly difficult to rip off from DS games. The coding and the file size just keeps getting in the way. I'll look around and see what I can find. :(

Photoshop is for real men!
The gimp is what happens when you get a bunch of nerds designing user interfaces.
I really dislike the gimp. But I am not sure what you spent on photoshop, but I have found the perfect clone. I used to use it when I ran Ubuntu. It's called PIXEL (http://www.kanzelsberger.com/pixel/?page_id=12) and it is still on sale for Christmas!

gimp is what you get when a group of people want to create an imaging software without getting copyright sued by Adobe.
Trust me, anything too close to Photoshop gets sued out of business.

Gimp is a poor photoshop clone. It has poor CMYK support and if you actually need to do any professional development it really is a joke. One is better off using XARA.
The gimp also has a much higher learning curve than photoshop. Sure free is a nice price tag but it is not as great as people make it out to be. For the idle sue or playing around the gimp is great don't get me wrong. If you need to do anything serious it's not worth the headache.
But if you are looking for a free illustrator I found Inkscape to be a fantastic tool.

Actually pixel art is incredibly difficult. Yes I have some experience with it.
It depends upon what type of portrait you are doing as well. Typically it helps to first have a sketch of yourself to work from or find an anime character that looks remarkably similar to you. For me thats easy. I think some japanese people have been following me for years making me into anime. Anyway. If you wan an assist post what you have and we will see if we can help you out. Remember art is a process.

Yeah it helped bit time. My first buttons were kinda big and bulky. Next thing I want to work on is maybe the mouseover effect, but I am thinking of maybe making a second set of buttons and using HTML to do an onclick effect.
Water Drop effect sounds odd, but I am trying to learn as much as possible.
With you and Kate helping me, I am sure I will. Or you 2 will hide anytime I come online and be like, man does this guy ever shut up.

I had to post this for pokemasterSD. He sent me a guide on how to make bubbles. This is my first attempt, not sure if the shadowing is right. The one part you talk about the shadowing be on the right and not the left menu, I saw nothing on the right. May be a darker shadow since I put the entire image into a bubble.
