View Full Version : UK Mew Event

Specifically for those members in the UK, how many of you are going / have been to the Toys 'R' Us events which are going on over the next couple of weeks or so?

I'm hoping to take cousin to one, to pick up a mew for each of us, although with only one GBA cartridge between us, it's going to mean restarting my ruby save to do it.

It's good to see another mew event come round over here; I still remember the last one, which was back in 1999 apparantly. In fact, I've still got that mew on my pokemon yellow cartridge somewhere.

Pfft. The only ones near me are tomorrow and monday.
Tomorrow I'm busy so I can't go.
And the one on monday means going on an adventure to oldbury, which I don't actually know where it is but apparently its near sandwell which is about 15mins away on the train.
I'd go if my mate could come with me. But she's busy.
And I don't really fancy adventuring on my own.
I don't trust myself not to get lost and end up in like, scotland or somewhere. xD

I really wanted a mew as well. >.<

That's a shame... If I had a spare cartridge, I'd offer to try to pick one up for you, but my cousin hasn't got PalPark yet. That means I can't wipe my ruby a second time, because I've got to babysit her mew until she beats the elite four and unlocks PalPark.

I'm currently job hunting, so I'm secretly praying I don't get offered an interview on the day of the one near me, because I've only got one near me and I really want that mew that I know beyond all doubt is uncloned and unhacked, unlike most of the ones on the GTS, which you can never quite be sure about.

Rob, why do you say you have to wipe your Ruby cartridge for the Mew event? I thought as long as you have an active game on it, you can get a Mew?

RJOsborne
08-11-2007, 06:41 PM
Because as far as I know, you're limited to 1 mew per save game.

My cousin and I only have 1 Ruby cartridge between us, so I need to get 1 mew on my current game for me, PalPark that one across to my diamond, then wipe my game and get the pokedex again so we can get a second mew for my cousin.

Oh, and a quick tip for looking for Mew on GTS: look for either level 10 or level 30. Level 30 is a little harder to prove it's legit, but level 10 is actually fairly easy to tell. Granted, you can't tell if it's cloned, but you can at least verify that it is from a legit source. There's a FAQ on gamefaqs.com regarding event Pokemon. it lists the events, the Pokemon given away, and what the trainer name and number should be if it's legit. Using the FAQ I was able to determine that a Jirachi I have and a Celebi that I have are both legit (possibly cloned, but that doesn't bother me).

Ah, gotcha. I was always under the impression that you could get more than Mew per game, but I could be wrong. I do know that using the Colosseum pre-order disc limits you to one Jirachi per game, but the Mew event isn't exactly the same. I'd heard about people at Toys R Us here getting multiple Mews during the last event here, but I don't know if they meant multiple Mews in the same game or multiple Mews using multiple cartridges. Kinda sucks if you do have to wipe it, but at least you will have a legit Mew! Mew is pretty bad-:(:(:( too, so it's worth it. He can learn any TM and any HM in the game.

RJOsborne
08-11-2007, 06:46 PM
I know you can get multiple mews if you have multiple cartridges, but I don't think you can have multiple mews downloaded to a single cartridge (not at the event anyway).

If somebody wishes to prove me wrong, I'd be very happy though :D

RoBottnik
08-11-2007, 06:49 PM
Yeah, it's entirely possible that the multiple Mews were on multiple cartridges; I wish I knew for sure. I'd love to get my hands on one of the Mews from your event there (I missed the last Mew event here, which was last year), but I think the odds of that happening are pretty slim!

Hey Electra!I happy for you that you are going to get a Mew!
I got one from Joey.

Actually I might be able to go tomorrow after all :D
I just hope my mom or dad will suddenly realise they need something from homebase and agree to take me.
I'd have to change buses about 4 times to get there by myself. "/

The people there are really nice as well. (:

Wow, enjoy!

If you borrow a different legendary from somebody that you don't have, then you could always use the second one to trade for that legendary. Or you could keep it as a spare :D

electrogirl
08-12-2007, 01:55 PM
Yeah I'm definately gonna trade one of them for something.
But I don't know which one, I don't know what for and I don't know when yet.
I think I'll definately keep it for a while anyway.
But it's always there, in case theres something I really want/need. (:

Have fun at the event you're going to (:
If there's a man there with long blonde hair, yeah, he's really nice. I was talking to him for ages lol x)

RJOsborne

Yes, mew is very useful for trading for things, especially if you leave it exactly how you found it, without ever battling with it...

Electra, great job getting the Mew! Still no word on any events here, I'm still hoping like heck to get my hands on an event Mew. I figured that there'd be some announcement by now about any events in the States, I'm also anxiously awaiting a legit Darkrai, but I've heard absolutely nothing....
Again, good job Electra!

hey bott do u know website that you can make trainercard signature

RJOsborne
08-20-2007, 07:40 PM
I finally got hold of mine today :D

Also managed to secure one each for my 2 cousins who went with me, which was good. I panicked part way through because I broke my palpark by changing the clock (I got a clock change message when I tried to import from ruby), but fortunately starting a new ruby game fixed that, which I had to do anyway to get my multiple mews.

The events seem quite popular; we had to queue 1 1/2 hours for the first mew, although the queue did go down to 15 minutes or so after lunch, which was fortunate.

the rest seemed a bit disappointing compared to the last mew event we had (1999 apparantly). They had a tournament you could play in, as well as trading cards and pokemon snap.

electrogirl
08-20-2007, 07:55 PM
LOL
I didn't get there until half 4 so it was pretty empty (:
And there was noone waiting for a mew :D
Well done on getting all 3 tho (: Did you have to wait separately each time or did they do them all at once?

But after telling my dad to wait in the car, he left the car, came and stood with me and insisted on asking every question he could think of.
In front of the fit guy working there.
oh the shame. -.-

But at least it was empty
And I didnt have to stand in a queue behind lots of small children. With my dad. Looking like the Birmingham's biggest loser. (:

Anyway. (:
I don't know that there'll be an event in the US any time soon. Not for Mew anyway. Because there's already been a few mew events there, and I don't think there have been in the UK. Not for a good few years at least. The last event was 99 I think, but I'm not sure what was given out.

I don't think we're a few months ahead of you.
I think we're a few years behind. xD

RoBottnik

Very cool Rob!! That's great that you were able to get some for your cousins as well, I'm sure they'll love them :) ....by the way, out of curiosity, can you tell me the Trainer name and ID number on the Mew you got from the event? I'm hoping to find one on GTS, and I'd like to know the number so I can compare, and I'm also curious to know if it's the same number as the Mew we had last year, or if it's a brand-new number.

Chikorita, you can go to Pokecharms.com and make a Trainer card there.

RoBottnik
08-20-2007, 08:01 PM
LOL, Electra, you might be right about that. I am curious to know if your Mew has the same number as the Mew event we had last September. It is such a shame that you guys haven't had as many events as we have, hopefully with Diamond and Pearl that'll start changing! I never understood why you guys get it so late after we do, it's not like they need to localize it any differently for you as they do for us, you know? I can understand the REST of Europe, with having to translate it to German, French, etc., but when they translate it to English for us, why can't they send it on to the UK as well? For the most part, English is English, there's no pop culture references or local slang or anything to worry about....oh well, at least you finally got Mew! :D

electrogirl
08-20-2007, 08:08 PM
Yeah it's really strange. And I'd imagine the market here is just as big as it is in America. Well, obviously not since we're pretty small compared to America, but I mean when you compare it to the amount of people in each country I'd imagine it to be about the same.

I was just about to check the ID numbers, but I haven't transferred the Mews yet and I've saved my leafgreen cart in the middle of the elite four :@ so I can't check. I'll let you know when I can get to the PC. (:

Met in a fateful encounter at Lv10.

RoBottnik
08-20-2007, 08:50 PM
Oh wow, so it IS a different number. Thanks Electra!! If you're curious, the ID of the Mew here from last September is:
Trainer name: MYSTRY
ID #: 06930

Now I know what to look for, thank you!
By the way, the 'fateful encounter' thing, is that what it says in the GBA game? I've got a few Pokemon in Diamond that say that, but they're all ones brought straight into Diamond, not migrated from the GBA games. The Mew I have from last year's event doesn't say that either, I wonder if the 'fateful encounter' thing disappears when you migrate it in through the Pal Park? When you migrate yours, can you check and let me know? Sorry for all the questions, I'm going to try and get one through GTS and I want to make sure it's legit. I think as long as the Trainer Name and ID match it's good, but I'm very curious about the 'fateful encounter' thing. Again, thank you :)

I'll let you know when I get round to migrating it (:
I'm pretty sure it stays though. I've seen a lot of things about different event pokemon that say "Arrived from Kanto. Had a fateful encounter at lvXX" that are legit.

I'll check for you when I migrate it though. (:

After you migrate it, it's listed as Hoenn / Kanto, depending on whether you have it downloaded onto Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald or Fire Red/Leaf Green.

I just migrated my LeafGreen Mew :D
And now I'm having a total panic attack because I've just been told if I don't find him in PalPark within a certain time he'll disappear :|

EDIT:
I got him :D
And my first time in pal park I got a score of 2914 points. Which i was pretty proud of.
...until I got an ORAN BERRY.
Gosh. I would have thought beating the record by almost 1000 points would get me something decent. >.<

Anyway. (:
Mew's info
Name: MEW
Level: 10
OT: Aura
ID No: 20078
Hoenn
Arrived at Lv. 10
Ability: Synchronize
Moveset: Pound, Transform

So you should all be able to tell in future whether any mews supposedly from the UK event are legit (:

RoBottnik

Excellent, thank you so much, Electra! I did find a Mew on GTS, and it had the Trainer name of Aura and all that, but it didn't say anything about a Fateful Encounter, that's why I was wondering. sounds like mine is legit then! Thank you much! :D
