The farewell tour.

Tomorrow is May 1st. I expect my DS back sometime next week, hoping early in the week. I said that I did not have time to get the new Gym team ready for the change from Electric/Normal to Electric/Ghost, well I was kinda holding back there. The team is all bred but 2 Pokemon. I will adjust the team and use some old friends to fill their spots. So once I get my DS, I expect it would take 1 day maybe 2 to finish the EV training.


So my farewell tour will be filled with a new team and hopefully a few battles.

I have already had 2 request for battles, nana nettie and toys4life would like to be battles #99 and #100.


For a long time I thought I would never leave the Beacon Gym. I thought Steve was crazy for giving it to me in the first. What did I know about battling , I was a farmer. So from 0 battles to approaching battle 100, I think I grew as a battler. There are still things I wish I could do, but that is for another time. I really cannot imagine my day without a Gym battle. However after seeing 2 people that pushed me into the position and helped me in many ways with the Gym go away and come back, I know there is live without a Gym. Seeing NikolaTesla and celph77 come back, well I know I can leave the Gym and keep on going.

I know people have heard the story of how I built a Gym team in 1 week. 7 days to build 6 Pokemon with IVs and EVs. Well that was not possible without celph77. He sat there and did countless hours of IV battles with me. He and I talked for hours about what Pokemon to use and the move-sets, EV spreads, Natures, Items, and what to do with them all.

NikolaTesla got me in, but celph helped make me a winner. Actually I remember celph telling me that Lanturn was the worst Pokemon on my team and I should really think about getting rid of it for something else.

Two things celph taught me, one was never take risk, moves with low accuracy were to risky and use the sure thing over high risk. The second thing was not to always listen to what other people were during. NikolaTesla ran the Beacon Gym very different then the other Gym Leaders did back then, I had to honor him and keep my team as unorthodox as possible. So with all this knowledge, I kept my Lanturn and I think others would agree.

My first Lanturn was named Spatter. It was nothing fancy, Modest Nature and no IVs in the 30/31 range. It was built with 252 EVs in SP.ATK and SPD and 6 EVs in HP. Not a brilliant spread. You have no idea how this Pokemon frustrated people with it's speed. Nobody every saw a Lanturn that fast and it was awesome to watch.

My current Lanturn Ekaro was built to be tougher. He had 31 IVs in SP.ATK & SP.DEF and 30 IVs in SPD. His EV spread was 40 HP, 192 SP.ATK, 240 SP.DEF, and 36 SPD. Very complex and not as fast. His speed was just enough to outrun Pokemon in his SPD tier and some 1 stage above.

I have a baby Chinchou that never made it to the Gym, but it would put those two to shame.

NikolaTesla was a Gym Leader that never did things you expected. I believe I carried on that tradition with the help of another teammate. My Miltank named Garbage. Not only did the name catch the eye of my opponents, but it shocked them with amazing speed. I will not bore you with the bloodline of Garbage. My current Miltank is a daughter of Garbage and she is named Treasure. I cannot tell you how many times this cow saved my team. Not to brag, but ask people that have battled in my Gym and lost, which Pokemon was the problem, Treasure. Ask those that won the same question and you would get the same answer.

I have won 4 battles without losing a single Pokemon, 6-0. I have lost 5 battles without beating a single Pokemon, 0-6. Losing like that is bad for a Gym Leader I believe, but it humbles you. I learned how it felt when none of my tactics would work and I could not find an answer to anything my opponent was throwing at me. I took a lot of losses to heart. I said that wow using a team with all OU Pokemon is weak. Truth is, I could have used all OU Pokemon on my team. I chose not to and I should have never made comments to put anyone else team choice down. I know why I used my team and when I did beat a team of 6 OU Pokemon, wow what a feeling. It still gave me no right to down anyone else. It took awhile for me to learn that lesson though.

I will stop ranting there, but I have a closing statement he-he. While building my team, celph77 gave me a link to a webpage to read over. It had a statement at the bottom of it. It took me awhile to learn this lesson, but I thought I would share with everyone.




Alright, so those things addressed, let's go to a few of the things you should and shouldn't do on wifi:

Play with Voice Chat OFF if it is a serious game. It can invade privacy and play into unnecessary mind games (which nicknames and pokeball seals already do anyway).

You should thank your opponent for playing.

Don't disconnect. If it's unintentional, fine, but if it happens every time and/or just so happens to be when your last Pokemon faints, people will know something is up. There is never any reason to disconnect, as you can select RUN if there is actually a legitimate reason for you to leave and do something else. Learn to use this forfeit function.

In other words, be a good sport. You agree to the terms of play before battling, and if you lose, it's usually your own doing. Don't try to pass off someone else's smart play as "cheap" to justify your loss. A loss is a loss, and we should learn and grow from those.
Though, it's courteous to give someone a rematch if they ask for it, particularly in the rare case of critical hits all over the place (without high-crit moves).

I can get on Wi-Fi, but I see nobody. This problem happened a few months ago and it took Nintendo about a week to get everything fixed. Even though they kept saying it was fixed, it still took a week to get it right.

Well this weekend I managed to finish the new Gym Team. 2 Pokémon were not exactly what I wanted, but I can't ignore great Pokémon.

I did something that I have never done before when breeding and training Pokémon, I let someone help me. Taterbud helped me out with countless IV battles and EV training. I will be busy tomorrow during the day, but I hope to have the Beacon Gym doors back open by Monday night. I have to tweak a few move-sets after testing some of the Pokémon.

So the Farewell Tour Team has 5 new teammates.

I just wanted to do a min rant here.

With my time as Gym Leader winding down, I have been thinking back over my battles. Looking at my losses I can almost remember why I lost each battle. The wins I don't remember so much. I have seen people say I am a great battler. I don't consider myself as one of the great battlers. I push myself to be the best and anything less is a failure. If I could teach 1 thing in this little projects that I do, it would not be how to win a battle, but just to have fun with it. No matter your skill level, you are going to win some and you are going to lose some.

I use to sit and doubt myself after every battle. It was like people were challenging me because I was not as tough as the other Gym Leaders. One of the other Gym Leaders mentioned that maybe they chose me to battle because I only had one badge. Thinking I was may be easier because I only have my own badge. That makes sense, but I would take a look at my record first. I have beat some of the greatest battlers on this site atleast once. Does that make me great because I beat them? No that just means on that day, I chose the right lineup.


I never really felt like I earned my spot as the Beacon Gym Leader. Even after I got to battle the previous Gym Leader, I still did not feel I earned my spot. During the application process that Steve put up, I was talked up by members like cherkat, celph77, and a lot of other members that were friends at the time and even members that I barely knew.

I had an entire site telling me I could do it. I am not sure why I never felt like I could. I took pride in my team and the fact that they were not all OU beast, not that there is anything wrong with that. Although knowing my team was at a disadvantage I still would put myself down after battles.

So I rebuilt a few teammates. And now I have this team of 5 newly bred Pokemon. I had the option to load up my team with the biggest and for some reason the team is still considered undersized by the tier system and please forgive me, but Smogon would tell me my team was :(:(:(:(. You have a bunch of :(:(:(:( Pokemon you need to add yourself a Garchomp and Dragonite to your team. I have never used a Dragon, well I use Altaria.

I found a new challenge to pursue. It may be a bad decision on my part and it may even set me up for big failures, but it is something I wanted to do since I heard they were adding the Sinnoh Gyms to PokeFarm. Yeah that far back.


I guess though I should look at all this as, I went from forum to forum and never fit in. I came here got some free Pokemon and asked a few questions. I started to get more detailed into my breeding and then came my C.W.A. From that I started getting asked tons of questions. From that I got to be a Gym Leader. From member to gym leader, to MOD, to Admin, and without my consent, a figurehead of the site.

Truthfully I never would have guess that my first Spiritomb build and making the C.W.A. would catapult me from member #147 to the BugCatcher6. It is weird how the BugCatcher6 name has it's own persona on the site.


Wait I don't remember where I wanted this rant to go. I started back on my medication so I am still a bit looped he-he. I guess with the month of May moving forward and the days of me being the Beacon Gym Leader coming to an end, I am just thinking of how much I will miss this Gym.

I won't be leaving the site, but I just don't see myself as one of those lone ranger type battlers in the battle section that create a thread and wait to battle. Almost like going from the pros back to the streets he-he.

Ah maybe I will find something else to challenge me.

I was sweating the battle. 3.3 scares me. Anyone that uses that Pokemon scares me. I cannot believe how well my Ekaro does though. When I saw my new teammates falling, I thought wow I could have lost with my old team.

One more word of advice, you really need to learn abilities and types. You used 3 attacks that did nothing to my Pokemon because they were either immune or their ability absorbed them.

Nice battle nettie. You surprised me with a lot of your tactics. I got lucky a couple of times and it made the score worse then the battle was. Your Wayno hung tough and kept me working. Although me using Spite sealed his fate.

I tell you though, with your last Pokémon, I knew you could out speed my remaining Pokémon, but Discharge did it's job. I think if it came down to both our last Pokémon, I had type advantage, but I did not have many attacks to do a lot of damage and I was poisoned.

I was worried that he might pull of a nother fighing attack and KO him...plus I didn't know all of your last ones move so I thought I would play it safe and switch to a move that I knew would hit first and was pretty sure you coudn't kill him before I got you :wink:

That has got to be my most heart crushing defeat. Until you paralyzed me, I knew I could take down 2 of your last 3 Pokemon. The one you ended with I had nothing to take him out.

I have been beat 0-6 before and I knew I had no chance from the beginning. With this being so close I kept thinking maybe there was a shot.

I have not fully learned how to use this new team, but you obviously know your team. I also need to work on my switching skills. You helped me with that in the beginning he-he.

I hate to tell the others, but this battle moves up into my top 5.

I hate to ask this after having 2 nerve racking battles tonight, but does anyone else want a battle tonight? I think I got time for 1 or 2 more.

Thank you, but I look at myself as nothing special.

But then again I look at where I was when I first started on this site and where I am now.

I started out never having battled another person. So battling is not impossible to learn. I still have a lot to learn, but I came a long way.

I have read about numerous times on this site people saying, I cannot battle or I suck at battling. I have tried to teach battling in project form. Truth is, all I could teach is how to make Pokémon. To teach battling is impossible. You have to battle to learn. I learn something new from every battle I am in. It is not always a new tactic or combo. Sometimes it is just something my Pokémon can do that I have not yet got to use.


Perfect example would be juaco. He worked hard to go from an average battler to a Gym Leader. juaco always was a good battler, but lacked confidence in himself.

The next awesome battler I see is nana nettie. I don't say this because we are friends, but because I see her grow in ever battle. Right now I see a conflict in her team, two contrasting styles. Finding a link between the two styles can open the team up.

My goal was not to be a great Gym Leader. It was to provide a challenge without dominating my opponents. If you dominate your opponents then they will lose interest and move on. The reason the PokéFarm Gym system has been so popular, in some form or another the Gym Leaders have been iconic in stature and defeating a Gym Leader gave members a sense of accomplishment. If it would have been to easy to beat a Gym Leader, people would have been bored.


Now I know even before writing this, some people will take it as me being mean to the Gym Leaders I leave out. This is just examples and my opinion, last time I checked opinions only mattered to the one speaking them. There are to many Gym Leaders, former and current, for me to list.

If you look at Gym Leaders like Nak and I, even though Nak is a great battler, people wanted to beat us because of our status. If you look at Gym Leaders like Babael and FatherGoblin, people wanted to beat them because they are some of the Elite battlers this site has to offer. Not saying that Babael and FatherGoblin are not iconic in stature or Nak is not an elite battler, I am just saying this is how most members have describe things to me.

Why not I have about 5 friends left on the site now anyway. I wish I had not made so many friends mad, but I am who I am and I have not changed and will not change.

Also you and I argue a lot, most of the time you are right, but mainly I am correct. Old men arguing is just funny though.

Taken the wrong way or not, if you were true friends to begin with it would not be a major issue. Friends to me are like family. You take the good with the bad.

Now I am at the point where I will remove myself rather then face another conflict later on.

Yes Buzz, you do take the good with the bad. Sometimes it feels like the bad outweighs the good, but it all evens out (eventually ;))

As far as removing yourself :confused: Hiding never solved the problems, it just put it off for later ;)

I just remove myself because it always seems that I continue to make things worse without knowing it.

Yeah you and I argue way to much. Between you, cherkat, and Taterbud, wait were was I going with this. Oh you 3 always try to make me feel better about myself and that is annoying he-he. Well I can relax knowing that 3 people see the good that I cannot see.

Nice battle wicked_rapture. I knew I could withstand 1 Earthquake, but I used Discharge to get the Paralyze because I thought for sure Surf would not OHKO you. I did not get the Paralyze and I thought for sure you would out speed my last Pokémon. Great battle and you really have an awesome team.

Nikola is ready to take over the gym, so my reign is over. I finish with a Beacon Gym record of 68 wins and 40 losses.
