Poké Academy: Introduction

I thought with the way the old thread was dragging on I would start a new one and try to get back on track and find out who is interested.

I have decided that signing and having to be able to do every project is out. This will be kinda like night classes or online schooling, so you only have to join when you are able.

So how does this bide for grades? Well grades won't mean as much, but you will earn credits. The more projects you do, the closer you come to earning a Golden Combee.

So I will list the first project and then allow for people to sign up. Anyone is allowed to sign up. It is not limited to new members, old members, Gym Leaders, 8 Gym Badge winners, or people named nettie. Anyone can join and earn credits. I guess the only real goal is to earn a Golden Combee and win some prizes along the way.


First Project:
Introduction of 3 NFE(Not Fully Evolved) Pokémon into the NU(Never-Used) Tier.

Right now those 3 groups are all you get to know about your projects. Please when entering the course just post your Forum Name, FC, and group of your choosing.

It is a first come first serve for each group. There has to be atleast 3 people in each group. So if I get 5 for one group and 1 in another, I will take the first 3 for the main group.

Now don't let the credits fool you, there are extra credits with each group, but the credits shown are the starting credits.


This project starts May 11th, so sign up by the 10th if you want to do this project.

Truthfull we have 9 people, we could do the testing, but I want more people to join in. I remember a lot of people saying if you wait until May I can do it. I waited and only about 8 people showed up.

Also remember that there are 3 Pokémon in each group. 1 will have a weakness to the NFE type and 1 will be the NFE's weakness.

With just 3 in each group, 1 member will be selected to be the NFE. The other 2 will get to chose from the remaining 2 choices. If more sign up, it will depend on the total number of people in each group to decide how many people will get to be the NFE Pokemon and how many get to kick it's butt.

Machamp is fully evolved and Machoke is NFE, so yes no Machamp. Also most of my classes are breeding classes, so you have to breed and not just dust off a Pokemon.

You will have 1 week to build your Pokemon, well 5 days and the weekend to battle. So IVs and such depend on how detailed you think you can get in 1 week.

There will be credits for IVs, Natures, and move-sets. How they will be judged remains a mystery.

You drew Masquerain too, that is a weakness for Kadabra, so if you win both battles you can get some good credit, but not as good as the person that is at the disadvantage. Like say someone using a Raticate against a Fighting Pokémon.

Truthfully with the right moves, EVs, and item, Arbok could handle Kadabra I believe.

If anyone needs help, you can ask me if you are not in my group. If you are in my group or just want someone else's opinion, Babael said she would help teach battling topics. I am sure there are other members on this site that would answer your questions as well. Just if you need help ask I should say.


Things to look for while building. You are basically building a specialty Pokémon. Meaning it comes into battle to handle one Pokémon and then it faints or gets out of dodge.

You will want to build your move-set to maximize your damage using a weakness your opponent has. Also remember your opponent will be doing the same thing, just the person using the NFE Pokémon has to counter 2 Pokémon.

I have showed you the base stats of each Pokémon. That can help you decide on a Nature, EV spread, and even how you should breed your IVs.

How can building specialty Pokémon help you when building a team?

Well say you like Pokémon that find themself weak to Fire types. You want away to add one Pokémon to your team to handle Fire Pokémon. YOu can keep your team intact with your 5 favorite Pokémon and add 1 specialty to protect some of your team.

Now in a battle if you had a Grass team, your opponent would not bring all Fire, or Flying, or Ice, but they may bring one or two. Your specialty can be used as a switch in or even force a switch out.

Basically it that was all babble until you get to experimenting with different types and adding the things you learn into your strategy.

Plus with knowing this much about your opponent, you can kinda preload your Pokémon. But your opponent can do the same, so seeing how people react is another good lesson to learn for battling.

Reacting can make or break your battle. React right and things go your way. React wrong or guess wrong can end things. Take your time to think, but don't over think it. That is just as bad, because you will have time to second guess yourself.

That is true, you will be battling at a disadvantage. Finding a Chingling is not to much of a pain. They are at a 10% spawn rate in most areas, Route 211 and Mr. Coronet are pretty good locations.

Another feature I have yet to figure in the testing process is individual trainer strength. I think most of you know I am a Gym Leader (retiring) and puffdaddy is one of the best battlers I ever faced. nana nettie is a Gym Assistant and a good battler. I am not 100% on some of the other students battler strengths, but this class can help. Most of these projects are going to be testing Pokémon and finding the correct tier for them to be in. That does not sound like it is teaching you how to battle, but any time you battle, you should learn something. Maybe it is a move you never thought of using or a combo of moves.

How can we determine if the Pokémon can be added to the tier?

After your battle I ask for you to write notes. Start with your Pokémon and list your move-set, EVs, Nature, and IVs.

Describe what you saw in your opponent in the battle. The Pokémon and not the person using it. If you got hit, record how hard it was, either by telling how much HP was loss or if it was critical or super effective. Also describe your hits on your opponent. List how many hits you got on your opponent. List your starting HP and your remaining HP. Which if you listed the Nature, IVs, and EVs I should be able to figure all that out.

The more information you can give about the battle can earn you more credits.

Please don't rush yourself on this project. The time frame for each project is going to be more fluid then in my previous classes. By fluid I mean, just because I say one week, does not mean it cannot have time added on. I want to be as detailed as possible, so if you think you could benefit by doing another breeding cycle, then let the class know. I would like to have all breeding and training done in 5 days and the battling in the last 2 days.

However with a time frame like that, that leaves very little time to discuss the outcome, review the results, announce the credits, and setup for the next project. So the projects may go 1 week on and 1 week off. Warm weather and summer vacations are coming up and I don't want to keep people busy with projects.

And remember, you don't have to do every project. I will keep a record of all credits in each project and semester. The more you do the more credits you can get, but credits are only for prizes and by the end they are for the Golden Combee.


Also if you have questions ask. I am sure someone on the site would not mind helping. If it is anything you are comfortable sharing with the other members in the class, please post here or in the new thread when it starts.

I don't expect anyone to post move-sets or tactics, but if you are comfortable with posting and not worried if your opponents will read them, then by all means share with the class.

Kiwi is right we will be battling at level 50.

You can use items. As far as clauses, I think we should have the Sleep Clause & the Self-K.O. Clause. Using only one Pokémon make these 2 rules a must. No testing can be done if you box faint or one of you are sleeping. If you could switch to another Pokémon they could be usable options.

Any thoughts on the Evasion Clause & OHKO Clause? I would think they would not be needed, but maybe I need to make up a battle rules for all projects.

Although the project does not start until May 11th, if you would like to start early you can. Ideally I would like one more person to join the Fight Club to give us to 2 Machokes in that group, but more people may join up later.

I remember like 36 people wanting to do it, but we only have 10 in the class, 11 counting me. I waited until May like a few members requested, but none of them joined. Maybe they are waiting on the next project. Maybe what I have said so far has confused them. It is a lot of info.

The short answer would be, you build the Pokémon you are given and you try to beat the opponent you are given.

I was hoping that some non-students would post some tips. It happened sometimes in my other classes. Babael volunteered to help when people needed it.

If both Kadabras would win and it seemed like total domination, I could look for Pokémon with higher total base stats or look up into the UU Tier to find 2 more Pokémon to test it against. If nobody has suggested an idea for a 2nd project, maybe I can schedule a 1 Pokemon tournament. Each person signing up for the 2nd project would get to select from a group of Pokémon chosen by me he-he. The reason I would select them is I could then decide how many credits each Pokémon would be worth.

Like Pokémon with lower credits would get more credits for a win then a Pokémon that has a high starting credit.

So the Poké Academy has a new location. We have our own section for us to warp fragile er um teach our members different areas of breeding and battling.

At some point I would like to make an image for the Academy to have at the top of each thread. Not sure when I will get time to splice art. Anyone have any ideas for an image? I was thinking like a stage with some trainers sitting and a fat farmer looking dean at a podium and in the crowd some trainers and Pokémon. I just have to find a stage image, I believe I can slice everything in once I get all the images he-he.

Some of the NFE were placed already in the tier system.

The main reason for Porygon2 and Porygon-Z is that Z is faster and has a higher SP.ATK and Porygon2 is still a great Pokémon with better defense stats.

Also Pikachu is listed as well. Pikachu can be stronger then Raichu, only if Pikachu has a Light Ball equipped. Without the Light Ball Pikachu would find himself in the NFE list.

I have just noticed something. How do EV's work with NFE pokemon? Wheneve I EV train a pokemon it doesn't gain the bonus stats from EV's untill it evolves to its final form. Also I was just training the kadabra I'm using and I battled 17 magikarps before lvling up and only got 3 points in speed. Is there something I could do ,or else I'll be in an extreme disadvantgae.

The EVs you get on Abra would transfer to Kadabra, since it is still the same Pokémon. Also you could faint 150 Magikarps and gain one level 1 and not see any change. At low levels you don't see the EVs being added as much as you would if you EV trained say a level 90 Kadabra.

Oh I do batches he-he. A batch of 30 eggs. Sometimes I release Pokemon that hatch during egg collecting if they characteristic is not ideal. So I breed more then 30, but I try to get atleast 30 eggs in a box before removing the parents and hatching all the eggs.

I think the job is going to be hard for trombone here. It was a pain breeding a female abra with the right nature since they only have a 25 % (or 12.5% I don't exactly remember) of beeing female. Luckly I got lucky in the 53th egg. = ]

Actually, I lucked out last night--I told my brother to check his game, and he had a Modest Female Abra right in his box. I was like, "Yay!!!" So, I'll probably start breeding it tonight. Wish me luck!
