Project Battle Rules




Level 50 Battles.
All items allowed.
Sleep Clause is in effect.

Only one Pokémon is being used by each battler, so Sleep moves are not allowed unless part of an Ability or announced first.



Self-K.O. Clause is in effect.

We need a winner now a tie.



Evasion Clause is in effect.

We need results from both Pokémon and if one cannot attack, it is not being studied to the fullest.


OHKO Clause is in effect.

Only 30% chance to hit, but it would not test the Pokémon to their fullest.

Also for those of you that don't know IVs, this site uses the standard listing of IVs as HP / ATK / DEF / SP.ATK / SP.DEF / SPD.

Which for those that don't know all the abbreviations.

SP.DEF = Special Defense
SPD = Speed

I know that these seam easy enough to figure out, but I just want everyone to be clear. I sometimes find abbreviations I have no clue what they mean. Like I keep seeing SD. What the heck is SD? Swords Dance.

Although my tactic for Raticate did not work out and puffdaddy creamed me with one hit. In 3 matches I lost all 3 with one hit from Machoke. I small detailed I overlooked while building my Raticate, kinda sad I did not get to test it fully to see how my Raticate would do.

I completely overlooked No Guard ability. From what I read though it should have had a 50% chance for Dynamic Punch to go threw Protect.


No Guard

Any attacks used by and on this Pokémon will never miss. They ignore Evade and Accuracy modifiers, and will also hit through Bounce, Dig, Dive, and Fly. If a Pokémon with No Guard is using Detect or Protect, or if a No Guard Pokémon is targeting a Pokémon using Detect or Protect, moves have 100% - X% accuracy, where X is the move's normally accuracy. In other words, any moves used would hit if they usually don't, and wouldn't hit if they usually do. This takes into account Accuracy and Evasion, as well as the base Accuracy of the move. Moves that ignore all Accuracy modifiers, including OHKOs, do not have a chance to break through.

I know I wrote up a credit list of Sorgatani's battle report. It is not in this thread any where and I cannot find it on my last post list. I deleted Sorgatani 's report sent to me, but I did record the credits on the first post. Man this stink because I gave information and possible ways that Arbok could have maybe beak Kadabra.

I truly don't know what happen to the credit report. Sorry Sorgatani, but you still got 11 total Credits.

Machoke had the No Guard ability which let him hit threw Raticates Protect. I used Protect to activate Flame Orb and Guts Ability which would have made Raticate attack harder. Which in all 3 battles we did, there was no way Raticate could have beat Machoke one on one. The one battle I used Pluck which is Super Effective against Machoke, but still left him standing with 37 HP. So with No Guard ability and the power of Machoke, I would say that Machoke is to strong for the NU Tier and might be more suited for the UU Tier.

Chatter is a perfect move and the only Flying Attack that takes advantage of Chatot's high SP.ATK. In the case of Chatot there were really no other moves that could have changed the battle. Your item could have changed the battle. If you yourself were holding aFocus Sash, you would have survived 1 attack and then with Chatot's speed, you would have hit first the next round. Chatot I believe could have won the battle.result:

Not very detailed, but you found out what the problem was. Yes the No Guard ability is nasty. Chatot was outclassed by Machoke and Machoke seems to be to strong for the NU Tier and should be studied for the UU Tier.

Roll Out and Spark were both good choices. Discharge as well since it can Paralyze. Super Fang I like as well, but for the move-set the 4 don't stack well. Move-set wise I would have liked to see something like,

Adding Defense Curl is also a good option. Using Defense Curl then Using Roll Out on the next turn gives a combo bonus.

Knowing what you need to work on is helpful. EV training is in my opinion bigger then IVs. Anyone can breed great IVs, but if you don't EV train your IVs mean nothing. Pachirisu is not a great Pokémon, but Murkrow has poor defenses, is 4 base points slower, and weak to 2 attacks Pachirisu can learn. Although Pachirisu has a weak move pool and weak attacks, it is speedy and has decent defenses. Murkrow has no attacks that could hit Pachirisu for Super Effective damage unless it had HP Ground. There is a list of things I could post, but I think you learned a few things with this project and that is the main goal.

Pokemon: Arbok (2 Credits)
Nature: Gentle (+SpDf -Def) - Jolly is recommended but none of my jolly ekans had very good IVs. Also I anticipate a special attack rather than a physical one.

IVs: 10/29/10/11/25/27
I wanted to emphasize speed, attack and special defense.

EVs:
100 Att//100 SpDef//56 HP//254 Spd (1 Credit)

Moveset:
Crunch/Ice Fang/Earthquake/Poison Jab (2 Credits)

Held Item: Focus Sash/Psych reducing berry/Choice Scarf
For my battle I wanted choice scarf but I don't have one yet so I'll be going with Focus Sash.


A few things I see that could have changed your battle. 1 is the EV spread. Knowing Kadabra is faster and a great SP.ATK Pokemon I would have loaded up with 252 HP/252 SP.DEF/6 SPD. Know with that you could have used the move Payback. Payback is base 50 Power, but doubles if you get damage first. Would Arbok have survived one attack this way, yes with Focus Sash. Now the EV spread I list would not have anything to do with a Focus Sash. It would have effected more to a Choice Scarf, so you had the right idea there. With Choice Scarf though I think I would have went with Bite over Crunch. Crunch is stronger, but with Choice Scarf making you faster Bite has a 30% chance to Flinch your opponent. With Kadabra's paper thin Defense, Bite would have done the trick.Arbok lost. With the Focus Sash, my arbok managed to hang on long enough to retaliate with Crunch, but Kadabra was also equipped with a Focus Sash, so had 1HP remaining.
Since this was essentially the quick draw contest I anticipated, the result did not surprise me.

Arbok also had the ability Shed Skin, and I also thought that Black Sludge would be a suitable held item for UU tournaments, especially when the item clause is in play.

Here we find out that your opponent also had a Focus Sash. Tough deal since Arbok does not a a Quick Attack type move. Although I believe Kadabra would have OHKO'd you without the Focus Sash, even with the EV Spread I listed, I still wonder what Choice Scarf would have done. Bite + Choice Scarf x 30% Flinch = Arbok a winner? A lot of what could be after this battle. I do think however that this shows Kadabra's power and that maybe he should be tested out in the UU Tier. Might be a bit too strong for the NU Tier.

Really Murkow does not have anything to counter Electric Types, but Ice and Rock Types are countered by Steel Wing. Item wise, the berry is effective, but the only move you could have used was Sucker Punch against Pachirisu for any damage. So maybe Choice Band would have been more effective, but that does nothing to hurt your project.Win/Lose: Win

The battle started after a LOT of lag. I was very surprised that we even stayed connected.

ROUND 1
I moved first, starting off with Sucker Punch. I figured she'd come straight in with an attack, and I was right. Sucker Punch dropped Pachi down to about 30% of its max HP.
Pachirisu used Super Fang, which took Lenore down from 135 HP to 68 HP; had me a little worried, but happy she didn't use an Electric attack.

ROUND 2
I risked another Sucker Punch, and it paid off. It hit, fainting Pachirisu. I won the battle, 1-0.

I believe you would have survived even if Pachirisu did use an Electric attack. Now on the other hand, if Pachirisu would have had say Defense Curl + Roll Out, the story could have been different. Sucker Punch would have missed on the Defense Curl, but hit when Pachirisu would have used Roll Out and Roll Out could potentially have OHKO'd you. Good build and good job using Sucker Punch over the other moves.

I would also like to say that my credits don't count towards the prize.

I know I scored a 3 on overall build, move-set, and report. But for the overall the only thing that was not exact was the Nature. The move-set was exact for battling Machoke and fit Raticate's Ability and Item. The 3 for the report was due to the fact that I listed what went wrong for my side.

If anyone, student or not, sees something in the credits I gave as being under scored or over scored, please let me know. I tried to be as far as possible. But even if you feel you were scored to low on something or someone else was scored to high, please comment in a PM and we can discuss the score.

As I explained in the other battle report I based off my whole strategy off math. After looking at the calculations, I knew my match against arbok was going to be easy as long as I held a focus sash.
My kadabra hit first with psychic,but tani's arbok was also holding a focus sash. Then she used crunch which ended up being a critical hit,but Kadabra was holding focus sash. Kadabra finished it with another psychic. Kadabra doesn't really have many attacking moves that can deal more than psychic,unless they are supper effective 400%. Kadabra was designed to hit hard, survive with focus sash,and hit again.Thus explaining the not so good nature, and the random 6 att EV's.

Were the match ups even or one-sided.
Pretty much. Arbok had little chances of winning,unless she used bite and I flinched.

The main thing here is that you knew Arbok could have used Bite and flinched you. By the examples we saw, I am not 100% sure that Arbok could have lasted more then 1 round without Focus Sash, so you were pretty safe on it not using Choice Scarf.

I don't remember the exact IVs, but I remember ATK and DEF were 31. EVs you never mentioned though. No Guard with Dynamic Punch is insane. Your move-set had great coverage. Also finding out No Guard can allow moves to hit through Protect was a surprise for me.Battle Result

My Machokes Focus Sash kept him alive after a chatter, and allowed me to beat it with an ice punch. The next two battles went similarly. I lived with 1 hp from the focus sash twice, and once with full when he used fly, and I dynamic punched with No Guard.

You did 3 different battles with me to make sure that the results were the same. I see you also did this with the Chatot battles. No Guard not only allows a move to hit through Protect, but hit through Bounce, Dig, Dive, and Fly. Good tactics and build.

I wanted to post some more details on credits. If you noticed puffdaddy and I scored 3 Credits on our move-sets. puffdaddy's move-set had coverage for a lot of Machoke's weaknesses. My Raticate had moves to cover it's weakness as well as moves to take advantage of Guts. Overall build was slightly different. I did not give credits for IVs, but it was a factor into the overall build credits.

So as it stands, Trombones13 is the winner of the Shiny Tauros. Please PM or post to set up a time to trade.

You did the work, I just gave you the project. This is in no way meant to put you down, but I have the feeling that you kinda lack the confidence that most farmers and battlers have. I have seen this in past classes where members were great breeders and battlers, but did not believe in themself.

I would just like to say to anyone that attempts a project, don't panic. Anyone can breed and battle, but having confidence in yourself will make you great at it.

I would also like to say that 2 members from previous classes that I saw a bit of a confidence problem now are the only 2 members with a Golden Combee pin. I don't know if lack of confidence is the right way to say it, but nettie and toys4life are great breeders and battlers, but just needed to be pushed a bit.

Like I said before, I am giving credits instead of grades. If you miss a project, you only lose credits and I don't think with it being summer vacation soon, that everyone will make every project. So this makes it a balanced event I believe. If it does seem that something is out of whack, I can adapt the way credits are given in the next semester.

Not a problem. Like I said this new way I am trying does not penalize you for not being able to do a project. It is not like you signed up for 8 projects and if you miss one your done. I want those that sign up to be able to give 100% to making the best project they can, so if you have the option to do or not to do I think we will have that.

EVs=252 HP - 252 Sp.Att- I wasn't sure wether trombones was going to use murkrow as a special sweeper or physical sweeper, so i decided to put the evs into HP and Sp.Att (1 Credits)

I can see Shock Wave and Thunder Wave in the move-set. Shock Wave is Super Effective against Murkrow and Thunder Wave could Paralyze and slow Murkrow down. Wish is good for healing, but in a 1 vs. 1 battle, getting to use Wish would have been hard. Shadow Ball would have done nothing is this battle, so I would have replaced that with Substitute, then you could have pulled off your Wish. Also I would have went with Charge Beam over Shock Wave, you lose some base damage and the accuracy is less, but it has 70% chance to raise your SP.ATK. Also you could have kept Shock Wave and went with Calm Mind over Thunder Wave or Shadow Ball, and boosted your SP.ATK & SP.DEF that way. EV wise, Chimecho has 95 Base SP.ATK, so I would have have done my EVs like 252 HP, 80 SP.ATK, 116 DEF, & 60 SP.DEF. That is very Smogon like, but that spread makes DEF and SP.DEF pretty even and SP.ATK just high enough to do some decent damage.
