Chapter 6: Legends in the Making
”Status report!” yelled a female voice.
“Isabella, my mistress,” a man replied, “the area was cleared by the explosion. We’ve seen trainers as far as a quarter-mile away, but none are chasing us.”
“And, that punk girl, Andy?”
“Um…” the man hesitated, “that’s where the problem lies. She is unaccounted for, along with Maxine.”
Isabella slammed her fist on her desk. “Great… Just great. Send out a crew to find them, and, for goodness sake, don’t let them get off easy! The plan fails if we have any intruders. Is that clear?”
“Yes, ma’am!” The man saluted and ran out of the room, leaving Isabella to fume in silence.
<<Wha—where am I?>>
Deoxys woke up to see nothing but pink gelatinous fluid all around it. <<What’s going on?! The mission—did I fail?!>> Deoxys morphed into its Attack form and let out a shriek. The glass tube encasing it rattled and vibrated loudly, giving the Pokémon a headache. <<It’s no use… I must have failed… Mistress, I’m sorry…>> Defeated, Deoxys went into a deep slumber.
“Come on!” Andy yelled to the other riders. “We have to hurry and get the other Pokémon back, and save Deoxys!”
Maxine sighed in annoyance. “Do you think we’re stupid or something? You don’t have to remind us every five minutes…”
“Ooh…” Andy grunted, “You’re lucky we even brought you along!”
“Who would save your sorry behinds when you guys get trampled by Deoxys? All I need is Dragonair back, and I could take them all down myself!”
“Why don’t you just shut up, you rotten little b—“
“Both of you, BE QUIET!” Ellie yelled, the voice of reason. Maxine and Andy stopped fighting and looked at her in surprise. “Listen, Maxine, just because Andy is younger and less experienced than you doesn’t mean that you can walk over her like a rug! And Andy, we need all the help we can get against Team Magnus, okay? So, why don’t you two just drop it?”
Cyrus whistled in astonishment. “Way to go, girl!”
“Don’t come on to me…” Ellie groaned.
“What? You think I’m—?”
“Hey, guys?” Peter interrupted. “I, uh, hate to break up your conversation, but is that…”
“Jirachi?”
<<I feel a disturbance…>> Deoxys awoke with a start and found that it was glowing white. It closed its eyes and let out another shriek. A crash echoed as the glass tube shattered, freeing the Pokémon from captivity. <<I am free… But, wait… I can feel the energy signature of another… A star…>> Suddenly, it knew. <<Jirachi needs me. I must go…>> Deoxys crashed through the ceiling, following Jirachi’s energy signature.
Jirachi opened its eyes. <<Wha-what?>>
Five trainers and four Pokémon were facing Jirachi, looking at it with awe. <<Friend?>>
“Yes, we’re your friends!” replied a tall, brown-haired girl with a Pidgeot. “Are you Jirachi?”
“Of course it is, Ellie, duh!” laughed Cyrus.
“Shut up…”
<<I am Jirachi, the Wish Pokémon! I have been awakened, and can grant wishes for the next seven days, until I fall asleep again… Would you like a wish?>>
“Would I ever!” Cyrus beamed.
“Cyrus, I’m not kidding; shut up!! Jirachi, could you help us find a friend?”
<<I am coming, Jirachi…>>
<<I’ll help you! What is their name?>>
<<Wait… I sense others in the area… Please be all right, my friend…>>
“Actually, it’s a Pokémon: Deoxys.”
<<Deoxys?>>
“Yes; I wish that we could know the whereabouts of Deoxys.”
Jirachi began to glow, and one of its teal ribbons shook violently. A black writing began to be written without ink, as if by magic. The ribbon began to fray…
<<I know where it is. Follow me…>>
<<It’s moving… It’s coming directly towards me! Does it know I’m here? We must be reunited!>>
Miles above, in the empty sky, a storm was brewing between legends.
“I shall control this miserable planet with the powers of darkness!”
“I can’t let you do this, Darkrai; good shall reign over this earth.”
“Don’t kid yourself, Cresselia; you can’t stop me!” In a huff, Darkrai zoomed down toward the earth, leaving a rumble of thunder to clap in the sky.
Cresselia caught up. “Why must I chase you to the ends of the earth? What are you even planning on doing?” she asked Darkrai.
“Just stay out of this,” Darkrai huffed angrily, “or I’ll crush you!”
Cresselia laughed lightly. “I doubt it… After that last run-in with the High Lord, you don’t have your former power…”
“Shut up! I still have much more power than you, you pathetic creature! Why the High Lord even created you is a mystery… Just leave me alone!” With the final word edged in, Darkrai flew off. Cresselia sighed. “What’s the point? It appears I must pay a visit to the High Lord himself, to stop Darkrai from destroying the world…”
