Chapter 7: Nightmare (Part 1)
<<Just six days left before I return to my slumber, friends. We must hurry!>>
Jirachi was flying quickly in search of Deoxys; the wish had to be fulfilled by rule of the High Lord or it would face Judgment.
“How much farther?” Andy asked.
<<We’re pretty close—There it is!>>
In the distance, the group spotted a small red and blue speck growing ever closer toward them. “So, is that…Deoxys?”
“Look out!” Cyrus yelled without warning. “It’s coming in fast! Descend!”
“Salamence!”
Deoxys came crashing in at full speed, colliding with Jirachi and sending them both flying into the distance.
“Jirachi! Deoxys!” Andy cried. “Are you two okay?”
<<All is well now that I’ve found you, Jirachi.>>
Jirachi’s teal ribbon began to glow, and the blues and greens all faded to a dark gray hue. <<The wish has been fulfilled.>>
“Great,” Maxine said grumpily, “but why isn’t Team Magnus with you?”
<<I escaped from their lab,>> Deoxys began. <<I traced Jirachi’s energy signature and was destined to find it once again. After the…incident with Darkrai, I knew we had to be reunited.>>
“Well, we need to get back to them and get our Pokémon back!” yelled Maxine.
<<We know this, human,>> Jirachi interrupted, <<but this was more important, you see. Deoxys came to protect me from Team Magnus; if they find me, they’ll capture me just like they did Deoxys, and then we would be servants to Giratina and Darkrai!>>
“What do you mean?” commented Ellie. “Won’t Team Magnus find you both now?” added Peter.
<<See, that’s the thing. Alone, both of us are weak, but with our combined strength, we believe we can defeat Team Magnus and Giratina!>>
“How do they play in?”
<<Perhaps we should explain Magnus’ plan more clearly. You see, they wanted both Deoxys and I under their control. That way, they could “feed” us to Giratina, who would then throw the Earth into another dimension where Team Magnus would rule over us.>>
“That’s not good,” fretted Peter. “Really? No…” laughed Maxine. Ellie and Andy rolled their eyes.
“Well, let’s get going already!” Maxine did not want to feel vulnerable any longer than she could help it. The crew took off with Jirachi and Deoxys at its lead.
Jirachi, Deoxys, and the racers had traveled all through the morning and it was now late afternoon. A rumble of thunder startled the Pokémon.
“What was that? Is a storm brewing?” wondered Cyrus.
Suddenly, a clap of thunder reverbrated through the sky, and lightning brightened the darkening sky. “Whoa!” yelled Ellie.
<<This is no ordinary storm…>>
The thunderstorm continued, but there was no rain. Black clouds began to drift to the ground like fog. “Uh… Is anyone else seeing a lot…of…black…?” Cyrus barely finished his sentence before passing out along with his Salamence. The others soon followed, crashing to the hard ground below. Jirachi and Deoxys held out the longest, but eventually they, too, drifted off to sleep.
“Yes… I have completed the first task.”
Jirachi opened its eyes to slits and saw a black figure above it. Its hand extended over Jirachi’s face, and the Pokémon flailed around in fear, but to no avail. “Sweet dreams…or should I say, nightmares?” The figure cackled, and Jirachi shuddered as it fell back to unconsciousness.
