:491: 491 Darkrai
Pitch-Black Pokémon: It can lull people to sleep and make them dream. It is active during nights of the new moon. Folklore has it that on moonless nights, this Pokémon will make people see horrific nightmares.
Ability: Bad Dreams - When opponent’s pokémon is asleep, it loses 1/8 of its HP each turn.
Types: Dark
Currently: Japan movie or US Toys R Us events only
Future: New Moon Island after obtaining members pass?
Base Stats
HP 70
Attack 90
Defense 90
Special Attack 135
Special Defense 90
Speed 125
Total: 600
Special Attacker
Nature: Timid/Modest
Item: Life Orb
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Special Attack / 252 Speed
Moves:
Dark Void
Dream Eater
Dark Pulse
Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Spacial Rend(event Giveaway ONLY)
MewTwo and Deoxys are the only two Ubers with higher base speed. However, it has the lowest combined total of HP, Defense and Special Defense of all Ubers; therefore it needs to max out its speed. Timid nature with 252 Speed EVs are highly recommended. Fighting and Bug attacks are super effective against Darkrai, so watch out for close combat!
Anti-Status Attacker
Nature: Timid/Modest
Item: Leftovers
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Special Attack / 252 Speed
Moves:
Substitute
Dark Void
Calm Mind
Dark Pulse
If your opponent has a status attacker out, first use Substitute. The status won't effect the substitute. Then use Dark Void to put opponent to sleep. Then use Calm Mind until opponent wakes up or switches out. Finish with Dark Pulse.
Mixed Attacker
Nature: Hasty/Naive
Item: Life Orb/Lum Berry
EVs: 202 Attack / 106 Special Attack / 202 Speed
Moves:
Dark Void
Dark Pulse
Focus Punch
Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Spacial Rend(event Giveaway ONLY)
Similar to special attacker, but adds Focus Punch to break down special walls.

I have a Lv. 50 movie Darkrai.
Modest, likes to fight, likes dry food.
134/98/105/154/106/134
RoarOfTime/SpecialRend/Nightmare/Hypnosis
Any recomendations of how should I train it and for what?

Replace hypnosis with dark void I'd think - Dark Void has a much higher success rate and is a move that only Darkrai can learn (with the obvious exception of Smeargle)

And what about EV training it, what should I focus on?

I'd focus on Sp. Attack, Speed, and dump the rest in HP.

I just had to comment on this set. There is a particular move on it that doesn't deserve to be there. That move is Dream Eater. Sure, it sounds great, do damage to a sleeping opponent who can't fight back and gain some back. It PWN's computer opponents. But anyone who isn't a computer would switch >_>...
Even if you do get to use it once they would switch it out the next turn, giving you only two usable moves (the next pokemon isn't asleep and sleep clause is already activated). So it's just not worth it.

any advice for an adamant darkrai?
im thinking
darkrai @ choice band/life orb
252 atk/252 speed/6HP or maybe a even spread 108 atk/108 sp atk/252 speed
payback/pursuit
SD
dark void
shadow claw/x-scissor/rock slide/drain punch

Not many Uber battles use the sleep clause, so you could put their whole team to sleep. But, you are right, there are a lot of options based on personal preference. Thunderbolt or Spacial Rend are both good options to replace Dream Eater as well.

Adamant loses its special attack bonus, but I'd bet its special attack would still be higher than its physical attack...just depends on its IVs.
If its physical attack is somehow higher than its special, I'd use the following moveset...
Dark Void
Substitute
Focus Punch
X-Scissor

Darkrai only learns 2 Psychic attacks and Dream Eater is the stronger of the two. I can see not using it because opponents can switch, but the way the Uber battles are done on Shoddy and some other sites Sleep Clause is not used often. Since Darkrai's purpose is to put opponents to sleep and then destroy them, I don't see it being used in a battle with sleep clause being in effect since it handicaps Darkrai and that does not make him Uber if his ability, Dark Void, and Nightmare become useless..

Well, I admit I don't know much about uber battles. But I do know that Dream Eater is a horrible attack as you have to meet a condition to use it. Not to mention Psychic attacks give horrible coverage and a lot of the ubers resist it. Now, about sleep clause not being used in uber battles, maybe so, but that's just stupid >_>...
True, Darkrai is supposed to put pokemon to sleep and then destroy them with Bad Dreams and attacks (Nightmare is a horrible attack, btw). But taking away sleep clause is just giving him an opening to do so and makes battles a boring "Which Darkrai can sleep all it's opponents first?" battle. And even if sleep clause was in place, Darkrai would still be used. A 90% accuracy sleep move backed by a base 125 speed is awesome. As you can make one of your opponents pokemon useless in the battle.

That is why I don't battle Legendaries or Ubers, because the battles are geared to the opponent starting the battle which sets the rules to make his/her team dominate.
Also Nightmare is not an attack, it just removes 1/4 HP every turn your opponent is asleep.
Also Darkrai is weak to Fighting types, so Psychic would do damage there. Bug being Darkrai's second weakness which Darkrai has no Special Attack to counter, but does have Rock Slide yeah.
Psychic is the better option as an attack, but in a game where everyone thinks bigger is better, Dream Eater has 10% more damage, while Psychic has a 10% chance to lower SP.DEF which I like better.

I know Nightmare isn't an "attack" but I couldn't think of the word for it since it's not really a status. Maybe it's closer to a status than an attack though . And yes, Darkrai is weak to fighting. But can you name one fighting type pokemon in the uber tier? No? That's because there aren't any . The pokemon that using fighting don't get STAB off them which kinda defeats the purpose of a Psychic attack. There aren't any Bugs in the uber tier as well

I was not aware that only Ubers fought in the Uber tier. No wonder nobody battles Ubers a lot, with only 18 Pokemon in the tier you would have a lot of teams looking alike.

Besides of course Arceus Fighting/Bug type :D
You don't need a pokemon that is fighting type, just one with a fighting type attack.
Mewtwo gets Aura Sphere at level 100, and is faster than Darkrai.

No, you can use other pokemon as well. But there aren't any Fighting type pokemon that are worth using that I can think of. The most used pokemon from the OU tier in ubers are Blissey (of course ) and Metagross. Blissey as a special sponge and Metagross because of his resistance to a lot of the uber STAB moves and his amazing attack stat :D.

I know, lol. But giving Darkrai a move to counter a fighting type when there aren't any fighting pokemon in ubers doesn't work on a pokemon that uses fighting moves without the fighting type

This is why Darkrai needs Snatch.
It actually has no relevance, but a darkrai with snatch could definately mess around with a lot of heads.
You could baton pass block/mean look onto it, and then go with a dark void +nightmare +calm mind (for setting up reasons)
yes, i just laid out a tanky darkrai! :)

Well, my Darkrai is almost level 93, and is about to learn Dark Pulse. He currently has Roar of Time/Spacial Rend/Dark Void/Dream Eater. I was thinking I should get rid of RoT, but I'm hesitant to get rid of it because only event Darkrai can get it.
What do you guys think I should do?
FatherGoblin
06-09-2008, 02:06 PM
Yes, get rid of Roar Of Time.
Spacial Rend may not be as powerful, but if you cast Spacial Rend two turns in a row, it will do more than one Roar of Time would have.
I also like Dream Eater, which some people have debated a lot here.
Reason is: in Uber battles, its very common for wall pokemon to take advantage of Rest + Sleep Talk. So make your opponent pay for putting their own pokemon to sleep.

Ok, I'll get rid of it then. I know that Spacial Rend is a better move for most situations, I was just hesitant to get rid of RoT because it's an event move... and for some reason I've always liked it... I'm not sure if it's because it's Dialga's signature move, or because it's abbreviation is RoT. :D
I like Dream Eater too, I use a Life Orb on my Darkrai, so getting back health, even just once, can be really useful.
