Darkrai Tournament

In light of the upcoming Toys R' Us Darkrai Event I am going to setup a tournament to win a Japanese Movie Event Darkrai.

Tournament Rules:


Pokémon from the NU/UU Tiers only.

NU/UU Tiers can be here (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showthread.php?t=2162).


Level 50 Battles
Species Clause

It is NOT permitted to have two or more of the exact same Pokémon in a team.
Pokémon from the same Family are however permitted (i.e. Pichu, Pikachu, and Raichu).


Duplicate Item Clause

No two Pokémon in the team may carry the same item.


Evasion Clause

Moves that directly increase evasion (such as Double Team and Minimize) are NOT permitted in battle.
Taking advantage of abilities such as Sand Veil and Snow Cloak are permitted. They are abilities, and do not directly affect evasion status.


Self-K.O. Clause

When both parties are down the last Pokémon, Self-K.O. moves (such as Explosion, Destiny Bond, Perish Song, Memento, etc.) will cause an automatic loss for its user.
Abilities such as Aftermath do not count since they are abilities and not moves.


Sleep Clause

It is NOT permitted that the status Sleep (SLP) be applied to more than one of the opponent's Pokémon at a time. The opponent's currently sleeping Pokémon must first awaken or get knocked out before Sleep may be cast on the opponent's Pokémon once again.
Applying the status Sleep while using random-selection moves (such as Assist, Metronome, Sleep Talk, etc.) does NOT violate this clause.
The move Yawn (unless used with moves such as Assist, Metronome, Sleep Talk, etc.) violates this clause.
Self-inflicted Sleep (such as Rest) does NOT count in this clause, as it is voluntarily inflicted by the user and not by the opponent.
If ability-inflicted Sleep (such as Effect Spore, etc.) is already in effect, applying Sleep to another Pokémon violates this clause


One-hit KO (O.H.K.O.) Clause

One-hit K.O. moves (such as Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, Sheer Cold, etc.) are NOT permitted, as they hugely rely on chance and not skill.

I know some of the rules are not major problems in the NU/UU tiers, but I value your opinion of them. Any rule missing or any rule to much?

I added it, I just did a check to see how many NU/UU have OHKO moves. The ones that do can potentially abuse it. Wailord with Fissure, a lot of HP to try and get off a OHKO.

Don't be put off by not being the best battler or best breeder. The bigger the tournament the more chances there are for even the best battlers to slip and fall.

It is a chance to own a Movie Darkrai so just trying gives you a chance.

Still only 6 members for this tournament. I have seen a lot of people talking about wanting a Darkrai and if people would please get them one from the Toys R' Us event coming up. I am offering a Movie Darkrai for a prize in this tournament and it only takes a few battles to win it. I know some people don't battle, but the thing with tournaments is, the more people the better your chances of winning.

That is another reason I don't like doing tournaments for event Pokemon. I did a tournament not long ago for a Movie Darkrai and I believe I had 5 or 6 people sign up for that tournament as well. I will have to come up with another idea to give away my TRU Manaphy. Tournaments don't look like they draw as many people.

Within the rules, the Self KO clause is incomplete. The first section of it states:

Shroomish and Duskull fall under the NFE tier and have no ranking. The reason I said you have to breed your own, is because how is it fair if some people could have 3 people building one team.

But at this point not many people have entered so I may just start not caring if anyone breeds their own Pokemon or not. The idea of the Breeder's Cup and the tournaments I usually hold is I want to test breeding talents as well as battling.

The sign ups end on June 25th and the tournament starts on June 27th.

I currently have only 6 members in the tournament and I may just cancel it. This would be the second tournament I had to cancel for this Darkrai due to lack of participants.

6 members make a small bracket and quick tournament. Making every member battle each other always leads to some kinda problems.

I'm definately interested in this tournament, I've been wanting to participate in one for a while now. Don't change the rules just because enough people don't participate. You could always try making a tourney again.

I'll start breeding my pokemon as soon as I get my game card back from my cousin. I have no problem breeding my own pokemon, but I'm a very slow breeder, so I may not be ready to enter, we'll see. My main problem will be that my birthday is June 30th, and I'll have company over during the tournament, so I may not be able to participate.

NFE is not fully evolved. Most sites don't rank these Pokemon because why used under evolved Pokemon when you can fully evolve them? My answer is PokeFarm uses them and I am working on a system to get them all listed somehow.

The NFE Pokemon will not be ranked any time soon. We just tested 3 of the 230 something I mentioned and it seems the testing of them would need further testing. They were too strong for the NU tier, so they should be tested in the UU.

Do to popular demand(well prank calls at 3 AM), I will go ahead and let this tournament go on as planned. I will put up a Japanese Movie Darkrai with the same move-set as the Toys R' Us Darkrai.

One change, I will not be around the weekend that this tournament is going on. Each member must battle the other members 1 time. Keeping track of who you battled, your wins, your losses, and how many Pokémon were left over. Wins and losses won't be the only thing to worry about. You leftover Pokémon or lack there of will be counted as points. Points will also go into figuring out ties.

To those that actually PM'd me your team, I will need them again. To those that are signed up in the first post, please post again if you still wish to be in the tournament.

Just the Pokémon you will be using. I keep a record of the team you will be using incase someone you battle has an argument about your team. I can say this is the team he/she sent me and it is o.k. Then they could say well this is the team he/she used to battle me. Not that any of that has ever happened, but I want to continue having my tournaments clean and with no arguments over he/she used this Pokémon.

The ones that are still in, but have not PM'd their team yet, you can still change your team up to the day of the tournament, I just need a PM with your team to make sure everyone understands the tier and if anyone has a problem during the tournament I have a list of what you said you were bringing.

I removed all the members that have not replied to say if they are in or out. If they can log on the site they should be able to PM me and say yes or no, just the polite thing to do.

So far 7 trainers. Each trainer will battle the others. Keeping track of your wins and losses and the Poke count after the battle. I will start a battle record thread for those in the tournament to keep track.

I have 1 win in 3 battles against him. I won by 1 and he won the other 2 by a total of 5, but I will brag about the 1 win no matter how many losses he gives me he-he.

Just need 1 time. Down to say belnumcree and WCN in the finals, 1 time means belnumcree wins. That should be my gyms motto, 1 time.

Next month I was going to do a Manaphy tournament, but this has proved to be very disappointing. I know I canceled it and restarted it, but I had some personal issues to attend to and did not want the tournament to be ignored, but with so many people PMing and upset about it, I figured I would try to get the tournament done. Not to name any names, but I am glad I did restart this tournament. It shows me who was into it and those who were well.

I was thinking about joining, but I just can't be bothered to breed pokmeon worth using. I'm sorry Buzz, it looked like a really fun idea and I had some strategies in mind... Just like you, so much has been happening in my life and it makes it hard to give things the attention they deserve.

The one in the tournament area I cannot update, the one in the Poke Academy I can, but I was waiting until everything was definitely changed.


Just so everyone knows what the deal is and maybe have some input.
Smogon moved from the BL Tier to UU Tier, Drapion, Jynx, Leafeon, and Steelix. and From the UU tier to BL tier Pinsir.

I could see those 4 dropping to UU, but Pinsir I don't see as BL. Heracross outranks Pinsir and Pinsir's move pool is not deep enough to be a regualr on teams.

Jynx is basically Mr. Mime with Ice and Steelix has terrible type weaknesses. Drapion I think is really good, but he is not very popular on Shoddy so he got dropped to UU.

Like I said I could see dropping Drapion, Jynx, Leafeon, and Steelix, but Pinsir is not the beast he needs to be in the BL tier.

We started to make our own tiers, but when discussions would happen most of them ended up I think Pokémon X should be OU because I likes him and he is cool. I wanted tiers based on power and not popularity.

I wonder if this banter will bring traffic to the tournament?

The only reason I go by theirs is to keep the potential issue of, well Smogon says. So maybe after this tournament it can be discussed more.

That would be awesome. :D Honestly, if we were to come up with our own tier system, most of the pokemon would stay the same, but at least it would be static. :D I know you've had some suggestions in the past on how to do it, I have a few to add as well. :D

The problem with creating tiers comes down to two things. One popularity and that makes the current tiers as is and people will always disagree.

The second would be stats, which would make tiers uber, strong, weak, and :(:(:(:(.

Actually Leafeon wasn't the one I was most excited about, but that's okay. It doesn't seem like any changes will be made prior to the tournament, so my team will stay the same.

Yep. I was going to have taken the leftovers off that one Pokemon after doing some battles last night, but it slipped my mind and I didn't notice until partway into the battle. My fault there, I ought to have checked first to make sure.

Well, its the pot calling the kettle black. As I was your first battle there really is no reason you can't fix your items and continue with the rest of the Tournament.


As for the PM you sent me, You are correct, one of my team was BL and not UU/NU.

I was sure I triple checked but I apparently made an error. (Did Tauros move tiers recently :confused:). The error was not caught my me, the tournament sponsor, or the first three people I battled. It was an honest mistake, but my team is illegal under the rules Bugcatcher setup. Using a BL sort of defeats the purpose of a UU/NU tournament. :oops:

As I have already had three battles with my (illegal) team I feel the only Honorable thing to do is withdraw myself from the competition. Everyone who has battled me should readjust their scores to pretend I was never in the tourney.

I'll see everyone next time. (Shoot, I was having such fun too :()

Now 10*dcr PM'd me like on Friday or something saying the tournament is suppose to go on today but you did not tell me who I was battling. I said you see the list of participants? He said yeah. I replied all of them.

I should have guessed those new to the tournament scene would be the first to vanish.:(
