One anime show that I really liked was Eureka 7. The problem was that It was on at 2:30 weeknights. now I don't even have cable anymore so it doesn't matter, but whatev lol. I also really like all of Miyazaki's films. You know, like spirited away, Nausicaa and the valley of the wind, etc.

I never really got into Manga. Not that I don't think I could, there just wasn't any available when I was actively looking. And now I'm afraid to venture there because of the money I *know* I would spend if is started :)
As for Anime, it is hard to pick a favorite. They are all so different :D
By category:
Over the Top Action - Full Metal Alchemist
"Realistic" Action - Coyboy Bebop
Sci Fi - Macross (NOT Robotech, Macross. But you do have to be ok with drawn out love triangles)
Mess with your head - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Followed closely by the Big O (The Big O is *not* an action cartoon if you watch them all in order, including season 2)
Steam punk - Nauusica: Castle in the Sky
Comedy - Rune Soldier Louie
Guilty Pleasure - Sailor Moon (I said it was a *guilty* Pleasure)
I also find that of late I've become more and more of a purist. I almost always prefer the subtitled version over the dubbed version.

Fairy Tale seems to be getting a lot of love, I think I'll check it out. The animation reminds me of One Piece.

It does look like it's done in a japanese style, but it isn't anime. :) Also, the plots make too much sense for it to be from Japan.
My Matte enjoys watching Deathnote and some weird anime about people being stuck living the same day over and over again and killing each other.

I have a bunch of Naruto DVD's, but they're subtitled and I prefere the dubbed version. I'm not into it as much as others, but I can see why people like it. If it's on I watch it, but I don't think I'll buy any manga or anime of it... I have been thinking of watching more DBZ. I always liked Trunks. He reminds me of Leon from Resident Evil...

This is interesting to me. After watching several DVDs with both the Dub and the Subtitles I find that with the exact same show I prefer the subtitles 95% of the time. Most of the time there are lots of subtleties of meaning and lots of character interactions that get lost in the English dub.
And this is to say nothing of all the times the English dub completely re-writes the story or edits the fighting to the point where it doesn't make any sense. My wife and I watched all the Naruto shows in their subtitled forms long before the dub caught up and there were a lot of changes. The whole 3-4 episodes right before the big Sanin showdown were really changed and I thought the subbed versions made the whole event feel a lot more epic, a lot more dangerous, and made the feelings between the Sanin a lot more raw.
But that is just my opinion. I'm curious as to why others prefer the Dubs?

i completely agree with you there is no anime where i like the dub better than the sub.
some dubs however imo are good such as dbz and fma but dubs such as 4kids One Piece are the type of dubs which truly do aim to ruin the anime itself

Part of it has to do with me not being able to see the words. Sometimes the letters are in white on the DVD's I have and sometimes they are yellow. I can't read them half the time because it seems like they chose the color that would most blend into the background... I have bad eyes but we just got a bigger TV, so I might revisit thost DVD's...
I want to get more Cro High DVD's, but I can never find a store that stocks more than the first two. It is very frustrating...

When watching TV i will settle with the dubs, but i dont watch too much TV =)
Subs do cover the story lines a lot better, and i would prefer to watch subs over dubs. I have about 9 inuyasha dvds[Which have the sub/dub option], the majority of the manga they released here, and a calander =D I also am working on my Death Note collection, i have a wall scroll and about half of the manga.[Btw, Kira all the way lol]
I did find an interesting manga called "Lament of the Lamb" I highly recomend it. It's about vampires ;)
I enjoyed watching Ginga Densetsu Weed, i tried watching the series before that but i prefered the style of GDW over it. [Not too much the story line though, the first one did have a great story]
currently i am reading Moon Phase, another good manga.
