I am dedicating this thread for getting help for these two games.

Let me start. I have just earned all the gym badges and am ready to fight the elite four. the problem is all of my pokemon are in their 40's and wont stand a chance against the E4.

Where is the best place to train them? I am very impatient.

I've always used the cave just before the elite 4.

Yeah, I also use Victory Road for training.

I was afraid of that. Thanks for the help.

Have you been to the islands yet? If so, I like to train there. I train in Victory Road as well though too.

I'm fairly sure you have to beat the elite four before you can go to the Sevii Islands.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure Victory Road is your best bet.

After spending 5 hours training my team last night I found the best spot to train was sevii island one using the versus seeker right by the spas.

The place that train in is right from celadon, with the line of 4 people. Use the vs. seeker a lot, and their pokemon get higher levels, well the first person does anyway. :D Do you have the legies? You could always use some of the birds.

I used to train with the Vs Seeker next to the spa too! It's a great training area :D

I was told their were pineco in altering cave. But when I went all I found were some zubats? Why is this?

Also, how on earth do I find my legendary dog. I just caught mewtwo after an hour long battle. (he was naughty by nature) I was too lazy to rty and catch him in an ultraball again.

There isn't any real way. You just need to battle outside and wait for it to randomly be in the same area as you so that you can get into a battle with it. After that, it will be in your pokedex and you can see where in the world it's at, but before then there isn't any way to find out where it is.

I haven't found mine yet. It's quite annoying...

Also, this answers your qustion on Altering Cave.

"The Altering Cave (Japanese: へんげのどうくつ Changing Cave) is found in Pokémon Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen. At first only Zubat can be found in this cave, but by using Mystery Gift other Pokémon such as Houndour and Stantler can be unlocked." - http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Altering_Cave

Legendary dog is the best pokemon to use the master ball on.

Here is a write-up I made to catch your dog...it works extremely well.

I guess I was a bit spoiled when it came to my running legendary (I refuse to call it a dog LOL, I always thought of them as tigers - especially raikou)

I had them from Colosseum so I could track it right away. When I was in the right grass, a super/max repel with a level 40+ pokemon at the head of the party led me straight to the beastie :D

I usually used the grass around Vermilion City - above and beside it; it showed up eventually.

If you see them once, either by trade or having them flee the battle, they'll show their location in the pokedex. I like to use the little piece of grass between the bike path and the safari zone. Every time you cross th bridge the dog changes location. I go back and forth until he's in my area. If you don't have/want to use a masterball, a Cradily or Octillery with suction cups will prevent roar from ending the match or a pokemon with soundproof (Electrode, Mr Mime, Exploud).

I caught the legendary Dog last night. I went to transfer today only to see that I forgot to save it >_<

As for the mystery gift at altering cave. How does that work since it is an old game?

The Elite Four in fire/Leaf is one of the hardest Elite Four out there if you do not trade Pokemon over from your other games. In fact, most of the games become super easy if you select your starting team from the full roster of Pokemon.

It might help if you traded the pokemon to a game where you know a good training place, that way you get boosted exp, then trade them back when they are high levels.

FRLG was the hardest game for me, though GSC was the longest, but with GSC all I did was train Typhlosion and he could kill almost everyone in one hit.

I didn't have a hard time with FR/LG. As long as I had my Venusaur and a strong ice pokemon I could take care of just about anything.

LG/FR were definately the hardest set at the beginning of the game. The starters were not as balanced as they are in D/P. I always like to start with the fire pokemon. And Mindy?, the water gym leader was a real challange. I had to backtrack and find a Pikachu and level it up quite a bit. She is the only gym leader in any of the story portions of the game that I have ever lost to.

Rowenc23

Mindy or whatever her name was is pretty easy if you catch a rattata. Then if you train it alot, preferably where that boat is, you can hyper fang both staryu and starmie in one hit

I want to know what legendaries are available to catch in this game? also, is this a strictly kanto pokemon from 1-151 or are johto pokemon available to catch as well?

npeper

I know that as for legendaries you can catch the 3 birds and Mewtwo and 1 legendary dog. (I believe the 1 is picked randomly after you beat the E4) You can catch many Jhoto pokemon in the Sevi (or something) Islands after you get the National Dex.

There is a guy way to the left of the water path leading to the resort on five island. Have a pokemon that is friendly towards you in the first spot and an empty slot in your party and the traveling man will give you a togepi egg.

There are the three Legendary Birds, MewTwo, and one of the three legendary dogs. Which Dog is avalible depends on which starter you picked at the beginning of the game. It will be the one that your Starter is weak against.

In the base game, you are limited to the 151 Kanto Pokemon. However, after you beat the elite four you are given a special boat ticket that takes you to the Sevei Islands. There are maybe 2 dozen or so types of Johto Pokemon living on these islands.

My togepi evolved into a togetic, now is it possible to evolve him into a togekiss in leaf green?

No, togekiss is a 4th gen poke, so togetic is the end of the evolution road for your togepi unless it is pal parked over to D/P.:(

I have been going crazy trying to catch a pokémon with the technician ability. Then it occurred to me is the technician ability even in the third gen games?

Sorgatani
12-09-2008, 10:33 AM
As far as I'm aware, 'Technician' was introduced in Generation IV. Perhaps someone who pays more attention can clarify, but I believe this is why a legit 'Technician' persian with 'Icy Wind' is so rare. (Emerald Move Tutor on Meowth; migrate then evolve in D/P)

I have observed that pokemon that can have Technician also have an alternative ability... that other ability might have been the only ability available to them in Gen III?

No, technician was introduced in D/P. Sorry.

Tani was right, that's why they have another ability, it's a 50/50 chance that wehn you pal park it will change to Technician, or stay pickup(I belive)

Just make sure you palpark it as a Meowth. Once the ability is determined it won't change after its palparked.

I don't think this is so. As I recall, you must migrate a meowth, whose ability will remain pickup no matter what. When you evolve it to persian, it has a chance of getting limber and a chance of getting technician (not sure of the percentages on each).

Ok, my bad. I thought that meowth had technician.

Ok, my bad. I thought that meowth had technician.

It does, but not in 3rd gen because the ability didn't exist in 3rd gen. The reason you have to wait until it evolves to persian is that abilities are set on a given pokemon in a specific stage, and cannot be changed. Once a meowth has pickup, it has pickup for good. That's why an outside factor (in this case, evolution) is required to stimulate a change in abilities. Since persian cannot have pickup, it must change its ability. In 3rd gen, it would always change to limber. A pickup meowth evolved in 4th gen, however, comes to an ability crossroad, and must choose either Technician or Limber.

You can get one at memorial pillar or as a prize at the trainer tower, IIRC.

Jhamin

LovelyStrife is correct IIRC, but you only get one MetalCoat in the game. So you either evolve Scizor or Steelix unless you are willing to spend lots of PokeCoupons.

You can swipe them from Magnemite/Magneton, but only in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Keep in mind that once you evolve a Scyther in Gen 3, you are stuck with a Swarm ability. If you palpark it and evolve it in D/P you should have a 50/50 shot at technician.

I though you could SR for ability changes?

I don't think you would be able to do that, as it is defined once the pokemon is caught. Basically like binary the ability is either a 1 or a 0...since there was previously only one ability, they both equal the same ability. When its evolved in a 4th gen game, thats the next time it checks for ability, on evolution, so it would then go based on whatever the value was. For instance 0 for swarm and 1 for technician, but in 3rd gen, both are swarm.

Hope that makes sense...in short, its decided once the pokemon is caught/generated, not when its pal-parked or even when its evolved.

When they evolve they must re-check the code. I remember Poison Point Nidos evolving into Rivalry, so Swarm Sythers should have a50/50 chance to be able to evolve into Technician Scizors as well as Meowths into Technician Persians.
