Wayne's Wild Tournament

I have been thinking about this tournament for some time now and I want to see if anyone is interested or not...

As a break from breeding pokemon to compete in a tournament. I would like to see a tournament ONLY with wild pokemon.

NO TRAINING ALLOWED!!!

No EV training
No leveling up
No TM/HM moves
No hold items, unless it is one of the few wild pokemon that actually are caught with an item.
No legendaries/ubers

The pokemon MUST match your trainer ID and the level met must match their level and the experience to next level bar must be empty.

3 pokemon on a team. Level 50 WiFi Single battle.

The prizes will be legendary pokemon...
Toys R Us Manaphy
Toys R Us Darkrai
GameStop Deoxys
Lugia from XD
Legendary Birds from XD
...and more based on how many people battle.

I think next weekend might not be enough notice, and the 4th of July weekend is definitely out. So the tournament will be one of the following weekends after the 4th of July.

I really want to see a lot of people who have no battle experience enter into this tournament. Please help me encourage Pokefarm members to enter into this tournament because this is a great opportunity to get some battle experience on a truly level playing field!!!

I would like some feedback on what clauses this tournament should hold.

Species Clause - Yeah, I guess everyone should bring 3 unique pokemon

Duplicate Item Clause - I don't think this one matters...Remember hold items MUST be on the Pokemon caught, no adding items to a wild pokemon.

Evasion clause - Battles really suck without this one, even though most wild pokemon usually have an evasion move...its not allowed to be used.

Self-K.O. Clause - This one isn't necessary.

Sleep Clause - Yes, this one is on. You are not allow to put more than one of your opponents pokemon to sleep at a time.

One-hit KO (O.H.K.O.) Clause - I don't think this one is necessary either.

So continuing with my theme of trying to get members who usually don't battle to enter into this tournament...does anyone have a problem with not tracking wins/loses??? I would rather base the prizes on number of battles completed.

If you did it by battles completed, then how would you calculate the winner. That aspect of it is a bit confusing to me. :)

The item clause... There are some pokemon out there that carry the same berries. That's the only way I can see it as a problem. All non-berry items that come to my mind are only held by one type of pokemon or two in the same evolution line.

I've never done battles or tourneys, so I'm in it just to have fun and gain some experience. :D

On the tournament: I don't see how we could pick a winner with 'Most Battles Completed' based on skill. Counting your battles would mean a weekend long battle frenzy, and the one(s) with the most free time would win. At least, that's how I see it. I'd rather see a regular wins/losses count. Good idea for this tournament. I also think with the idea to help people gain experience in battles, even if hardcore battlers get into this tournament the playing field should be pretty leveled and that is awesome.

Hopefully the old dogs will learn some new tricks and the young pups will stop chasing their tails.

Wifi battles seem to scare a lot of people, and hopefully this tournament will break the ice for those people!

No, with the number of battles I am hoping to see, it might get boring just using the same three the entire time. You could definately change pokemon between battles so long as you don't break the rules.

This is sounding like even more fun. Maybe I can try out a few different strategies... :) If I can catch another shiny before the tourney, I'll have an entire team of them. They probibly won't do very well, but they'll be pretty!

It doesn't matter what level they are in the wild. They are lv. 50 battles.

I hope that something good swarms for me between now and when it starts. :) So far I havn't had anything of note.

Their wild levels do matter when you are looking at what moves they will know. We cannot level up, use Heart Scales, or TMs/HMs, so levels will matter for moves.

I think you're kinda missing the point. *Sigh* You're analizing this too much and it's kinda sucking the fun out of the general concept. Most of the things I found in the wild all had the same set of moves even if they were at a high enough level to know other moves.

I think you misread what I wrote. I never said anything about no badges no skill or knowledge. But I am not sitting an arguing this any longer.

My reading skills are just fine. Perhaps you didn't understand the meanings and implications of what you wrote.

Then go prepare. I'm preparing too, but I'm not obsessing over every little detail so that I can have a tiny advantage over a kid who chose their team based on the pokemon they love.

Anyhow! This tournament truly rocks. I'm having a ton of fun just selecting Pokémon. I've found that I can now try out some cool Wobuffet stuff, since Wobuffet isn't restricted, and also give Pokémon I normally wouldn't even touch a go, such as Ditto and Castform! I love this :D.

I have seen Castform on teams in the gyms. If you have the right weather with it, it can be pretty awesome. Ditto is fun because if your opponent has something that is weak to itself, like Dragons and Ghost it can really be annoying. Wobuffet I would not use myself, but it should work fine. Just as long as you don't end up with 1 on 1 and both are Wobbuffet.

Should be fun to see what kinda teams people can come up with.

Limiting as the rules may seem, they actually open up a lot of possabilities and a completely different mindset as for how to select the Pokémon on your team. No longer can you worry about breeding movesets, but now you must catch the Pokémon with it. It's casual because it doesn't require much thought but it can be very deep and greatly exploited at the same time. Brilliant! If all goes well, I'd love to see this as a standard Tournament format here at PokéFarms!

That would be iffy. Knowing the rule is no items unless your caught Pokémon was holding it when caught, it would be on you to decide if you should add an item to a Pokémon if it was possible for it to have on in the wild.

I hope that made sense. I am not calling anyone out, but that is a very good question and one I could see happening.

Still would be hard to say this person cheated and added the item. Most of the rules for battling is a honor system. If you cheat you have to look in the mirror at some time, but most people will say it is just a game and cheating is o.k. Game cheats have always existed, but when you take something like wi-fi battling you kinda take the game out of it for a bit to compete.

Cheating a game is one thing, cheating in a competition is another.

Oh man! I don't want to upset you, but Wobuffet is restricted.
Even without Leftovers Wobba is too powerful.

No legendaries/ubers. You'll get your chance to use those guys soon!

How about the experience that the team you built on paper did actually work? Do you know for sure that if you had a Gastrodon with Rain Dance and a Seaking with Swift Swim and a Floatzel with Swift Swim will work together? But I won't debate anymore about the issue.

I would not see a problem with any of those three. Drifloon is reoccurring every Friday and even though Spiritomb and Rotom are special cases, they are wild catches as long as you did not level them up.

Fossils you would have to get cleared by FatherGoblin. That is kinda borderline there.

I think we should stop debating or arguing about how people put their teams together, and wether that's fun or not. Firstly, it's rude to decide for someone what is fun and what is not. Secondly, you can decide for yourself how you'd want your team to work. If you want a good team that jells together perfectly, go for it. Have fun with that. If you want three Pokémon at random, just to test how you'll do, or to experiment, or any reason for that matter, then do it.
The gest of it all is just Go Have Fun.
Design your team how you want to design your team. There's no point discussing on it.

Wild means you catch it yourself with any pokeball.

The three ghosts are in.
A lot of work to catch those guys though.
And remember, you cannot level them up after catching them.

Fossil pokemon are not caught in wild...sorry, no.

Well, I tried to read through this thread to understand all the rules and what was happening, but it just became too much after a few pages... >_<

Basically just go out and capture three Pokémon. They can be random or hand selected if you like. Or even if you have untrained shinies, you can reveal them to other people (I've had a couple battles like that, amazingly beautiful).
For example if you have a crush on say...a Golbat because nobody likes them usually and you like the underdogs, go for it and see what happens.
They also don't HAVE to be the same type, I've had a battle where they were all the same type and they did pretty good.

Don't think much of it. Maybe you can sort through your box full of Pokes and find some you caught months ago and haven't touched, (I did that for one, hehehe). Really, the point of this is to introduce new battlers (that means you and me) without having to worry about IV's, EV's, natures etc where prime and battle hardened trainers thrive.

I just booted up my DS for a trade and there were three pokmeon on the team, they looked untouched... I'll think about it. I just don't really do battles. lol That part of the game never appealed to me that much. I liked this forum because it looked like it was based around the other aspects of the game.

Oh dear. Believe me. I was by far frightened of doing battles, but I'm starting to warm up now. The breeding aspect as well as others intrigued me to this site. The battling right now is secondary to the other things. However, I am very happy I have attempted battling, it's made me smarter and has actually bettered myself...I've also gained a new friend, and have fostered stronger relationships with a friend who I have battled. This tournament is an eye-opener for me in more ways than one.

Audi was adorable and it made me feel all warm inside to see battling.
Audi was a great choice because had I not switched out that would have proved fatal for me, probably. The second one was a welcome delight to see. The third one made me chuckle, the moves on it made me go "Whaaaaat?!" Hehe, I think you accomplished what you set out to do. :wink:
