Jacob was walking down the cobblestone path from his house on the hill from the bus stop. Every weekday he did it, every weekday he followed the exact routine as before.
He carried his textbooks under his arm and squinted down the hill. He could usually see the bus stop from here, but today it was very foggy. So foggy, in fact, that his hair was moist and the trees sagged from the heavy dew. Jacob stopped at strained his eyes through the fog. Shouldn't he be at the bus stop by now?
Jacob started jogging, then running. If he didn't get to the bus in time, he would miss it! He ran as fast as he could, but Jacob wasn't a very good runner. He stopped running and walked fast down the path.
The path! Jacob noticed something. His feet no longer made the clicking noise of his shoes hitting the cobblestone! He looked down. There was soft dirt underneath him! Had he strayed off the path? That had never-NEVER!-happened to him before. He looked behind him. The dirt path stretched into the fog as far as Jacob could see. He would never find his way back now!
Then he heard a noise. Was it-Could it be? The bus horn! It was coming from further down the dirt path! Jacob was sweating, but he still ran as hard as he could.
A few minutes later Jacob stumbled out of the path and into a clearing. He listened for the bus again. It would be a miracle if it had actually waited this long. At that moment he heard the horn again: HONK! It was coming from...Above? Jacob looked up. In the sky was a strange bird. It was white and blue and had a huge pelican-like beak. It opened its beak and let out a HONK! before swooping up into the fog.
So it wasn't the bus after all! Jacob was even more lost! He was tired and thirsty from the running. Then he heard another noise. Water! It was coming from further into the clearing! Jacob ran into the fog and emerged with a gasp. In front of him was a large, circular, lake. He ran down to the water and gulped down some water, then stood up to look around.
He saw a small cave entrance on the other side of the lake, and on either sides were lots of grass. He noticed that the fog must have gone because he could see to the other side! But with the fog gone, it started to rain. HARD. Jacob ran for the cave and made it inside, soaking wet. He looked around.
It was surprisingly light in the cave, and Jacob noticed a single column in the center of the cave. The looked over and noticed to his surprise that there was writing etched on the column! He walked over and tried to read the writing. All he could make sense of was "Find the three pillars..." "...Wake the sleeping..." This sounded like something from a fiction book!

Jacob looked up at the towering creature...He wished he had never ran recklessly into the cave...then forgotten which way he had come in...found the three pillars...and then this...
Jacob had come face to face with a black and gold creature with six legs and small, sinister wings...He was so terrified he couldn't move...
His thoughts came to him in short burst...run...don't...stay...hide...no...
This was most definitely the most terrifying moment of his life. The monster leaned forward and sniffed Jacob. Jacob was so terrified he couldn't even step back. The monster opened its mouth and out dropped a small object, right into Jacob's hand.
Then the monster let out a horrible roar. Jacob quickly flattened himself against the opposite wall. Why was the monster mad? Did he accidently drop the object? Jacob looked down. The object was round and was red on one half and white on the other. It had a circular latch to open it on the middle and it seemed to glow a little. Did the monster want it back?
"Do you want this?" Jacob held out the object. The monster snarled. Jacob took that as a yes. He tossed the ball back to the monster. It sailed across the room towards the monster.
As soon as the ball almost reached the monster, it burst open and seemed to suck all things in. The monster made no move as it, too, was sucked into the ball. When the monster was fully inside somehow, the ball snapped shut. It fell to the ground with a soft thud. Then it wiggled. Once. Twice. Three times. Then Jacob heard a click. The ball stood still. So did Jacob. Then a voice rang in his head.
PICK IT UP, FOOL!

I SAID, PICK IT UP, FOOL!
What? Jacob looked around. Who was talking?
IDIOT! I'M TALKING IN YOUR MIND!
What? You're...talking...in my...
MIND! YES! GETTING YOU TO CAPTURE ME WAS THE ONLY WAY I COULD COMMUNICATE WITH YOU!
Jacob shook his head. I don't get it. Am I going crazy? He then heard laughing from somewhere.
IDIOT! COMPLETE IDIOT! WHY DID LATIOS HAVE TO PICK YOU, OF ALL PEOPLE
Jacob was very confused. Latios? Who was he? And who was this voice in his head?
I'M GIRATINA, MASTER OF SHADOWS-WELL NOT MASTER, UNTIL THE OLD MAN DIES-I'M GONNA BE WHIPPED FOR THAT...
What?
STUPID GRANDPA DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING, I CAN'T STAND THE RASH DECISIONS HE MAKES...WHEN I'M THE MASTER OF DARKNESS, I'LL DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY. BUT HE MAKES ME TAKE UP THIS "SERVANT OF THE LEGENDS" JOB...WHAT A WASTE. WHY AM I TELLING YOU THIS?
Um...I...really...don't...know?
WELL, OPEN THE STUPID POKEBALL, I'M TO FLY YOU TO THE GARDEN BY SUNDOWN
The...Pokeball
YOU HAVE A LOT TO LEARN.

Flying on Giratina was a strange experience. Giratina would dissapear with Jacob on his lower back, and then spurt out further away. Every time he did so shadows would seem to grow darker, as if Giratina was giving them power.
Giratina didn't talk much in Jacob's mind, only to explain how to open the pokeball. Then Giratina had lowered himself so that Jacob could climb up onto his back, and proceeded to slash through the wall of the cave. Beyond the wall the sun was almost gone down, even though Jacob had been in the cave for what seemed like only a few hours. But with all the strange goings on Jacob didn't know what to think. He was homesick, but what little part of his brain wanted an adventure was waking up. Had he not just been thinking about how boring going to school every day was? Maybe it would be nice to do something else for once. It wasn't like he had much choice...
Suddenly Giratina stopped flying and thought to Jacob.
WE'RE HERE. SEE THAT TEMPLE OVER THERE? YOU'RE TO GO INSIDE.
Okay, Jacob thought. Um...Thanks, I guess.
WELL IT WASN'T LIKE I REALLY WANTED TO DO IT, BUT...
Suddenly Giratina let out a frightened roar and his body cringed up, flinging Jacob to the ground. Giratina thought in an agitated tone.
MY MASTER IS...CALLING. HE SEEMS A BIT ANGRY. I SHOULD GO.
As Giratina took to the skies, Jacob sucked in his courage and started walking over to the ruin.

As Jacob got closer to the ruin, he heard sounds. As he got closer he realized it was someone humming. Now that he was at the ruin he could see to strange creatures holding spears and guarding a stone opening. As he got closer he realized one of them was doing the humming.
The creatures were somehow made of rock, and were very big. Jacob took smaller steps as he got closer. One of them spotted him. It nudged the other creature, who grunted and they stood aside, motioning for Jacob to go through. Jacob quickly walked down the steps and into a vast underground chamber.
As he got closer he heard arguing. He saw a very strange sight. Seated around a stone table were three small creatures. The first was shifting around in its chair uncomfortably, like it couldn't stand sitting. It was pink and vaguely resembled a cat. The second was wearing a star like crown on its head, and the third was green with a big head and two small wings. Every once and a while the wings would flap rapidly and the creature would rise up and fall back in its chair. But the strangest thing of all was enormous. So bigger than the three creatures it seemed to take up half the room...

...But then it struck him. He wasn't scared. He wasn't scared. He was feeling...peace. Then, though he was ready for it this time, a voice...no, a thought...peirced through his mind like a knife through butter. But it was not bland and harsh like Giratina's. It was a kind thought. And, underneath the kindness...Jacob cringed and retreated out of the depths and enormousness of the thought and only grazed the edge of it.

(Welcome, young one.) The voice was echoing into Jacob's brain like an afterthought of something so much more powerful. The awe hit him like a breeze, then a gust, and Jacob forgot to think and instead spoke aloud, but with the confidence that the voice had given him.

"Hello! Who are you!" Jacob opened the eyes he didn't realize he had had closed and looked again at the creature.

It was a bright radiating blue, although its neck, arms, and half of its head were gray. It had two long wings that stuck out like a pair of soft needles, though they were folded uncomfortably into the chamber. It had two small arms that were clawed at the ends. And its eyes...Jacob looked away.

(I am Latios, one of them. One that seeks to prove to all the others that darkness can be undone, and endless wars can be won. You are here for the same reason, and together, we shall win this battle. Win this battle, and the war. Victory is possible, you just have to try.)

Jacob blinked and his head ached with the power of the words. Then, as quickly as most do, he fainted.
