View Full Version : Is there anything wrong with using EV-boosting items early on?

What I mean is, I'm trying to build a team from scratch, perfect IVs, EVs and everything, and I have my perfect little Rhyhorn bred. It's level one, and my primary concern is his Attack EVs. Would it matter if I used 10 Proteins on him now? Would it be different to him in the long run if I were to use the Proteins when he's a higher level, or a higher evolution? Would he get less of a stat boost from the items, seeing as Pokémon get less stat boosts each level at earlier levels? I don't mean the EV limitations to each stat and everything though; I understand those. Thanks.

I think it's a waste, because like 6 proteins level up like one attack on a lvl 1 eevee or even none at all. (tried it yesterday when i was evolving them into espeon and umbreon) but i belive using the freindliness berries work better because that pokemon's base Stat cannot go any lower, but it still increases freindliness. Please correct me if i am wrong, and I hope this helps for those who find that it works.

For the vitamins to work you should give them to the Pokemon as soon as possible. You can only feed a pokemon 10 vitamins per stat a total of 100 EVs gained. If you train a pokemon to 40 attack EVs and then try to give it 10 proteins, well you can't you could only give it 6 to get a total of 100 EVs in attack. So why not give it 10 to start and then less fighting for those EVs.
I always start my EV training as soon as possible. Get the EVs maxed out and then do your leveling up. Now training EVs at a lower level you will not see huge gains from level to level, but the level 100 will be the same regardless.
Also I am working on a collection of Vs. Seeker Trainer Battles for maximizing EV gains and helping with some Exp. and Money gains.
Like a good spot for Vs. Seeker Attack EVs is
Rt. 203 Lass Madeline 1 Staraptor 1 Bibarel 5 Attack EVs
Rt. 203 Youngster Dallas 1 Kricketune 2 Attack EVs
Rt. 212 Gentleman Jeremy 1 Chatot 1 Attack EVs
Rt. 212 Ruch Boy Jason 1 Luxio 2 Attack EVs
Rt. 213 Swimmer Sheltin 3 Gyarados 6 Attack EVs
Rt. 214 PI Carlos 1 Goldeen 2 Seaking 5 Attack EVs
Rt. 218 Fisherman Miguel 2 Gyarados 4 Attack EVs
Rt. 222 Fisherman Alec 2 Gyarados 4 Attack EVs
Rt. 222 Rich Boy Trey 1 Luxio 2 Attack EVs
Rt. 225 Ace Trainer Quinn 1 Pinsir 1 Mightyena 4 Attack EVs

Ah, thanks for that BugCatcher. I'll give my Rhyhorn 10 Proteins and 10 Irons right now. :)

Do you have to battle with the pokemon to get evs or can you exp share it?

Exp. Share gives you 1x the EVs. So if your main Pokemon has a Macho Brace and your 2nd Pokemon has Exp. Share and you fight a Starly that gives 1 Speed EV, your starter would get 2 Speed EVs and your 2nd Pokemon would get 1. Makes it great to have like 5 Exp. Shares and 6 Pokemon that need the same EVs. Ah how sweet would that be to EV train 6 Pokemon at a time.
Something else that would be nice. Having an EV training team so people could challenge you and gain their EVs faster. Like a team of Level 3 Wigglytuffs at 3 HP EVs a pop, that is 18 HP EVs in about 5 minutes hehe.
