So, I was researching some pokemon to add to my team, I've always been fond of Smeargle's look every since I saw him on the show. Once I looked him up on Serebii I noticed he only can learn one move. "What the ^$%^" I said to myself before know what this move did. You see, the move is called Sketch. At first glance it looks bad, but you need to think deeply about it.

This Pokemon can learn any move in the entire game. Name it and he'll learn it, Fly, Surf, Transform, whatever it is XD

Now, you can use this pokemon to just trick your friends when they see a smeargle use Hydro pump then Flamethrower...But then have it transform would just blow your opponent's mind. This pokemon would practically sell for a legendary if they have seen your move set.

So at first glance Smeargle looks like a pretty useless pokemon, until you know it's full potential. There is also another secret brought up by Cisco about having it be a buffer and leave one move opened for baton passing...

Discuss this?

I've always wondered about smeargles possibly helping in farming since it has the the most common egg type, ground. If you could create a coordinated battle where a smeargle with a couple sketches could learn 2 or 3 moves that would be hard to get into the ground egg group, you could remove the use of TM's and make it easy to get moves faster. I've just been wondering about it.

cool write up! :D

and while smeargle can learn any move in the game, his base stats really aren't that good, so that kind of cripples his attack potential.

so far, the only use in battle i've seen for smeargle is as a baton passer (which it does a good job of). however, i have a moveset planned with smeargle where it has counter and mirror coat! :D (and a focus sash)
i'll see if i can pull that off.

personally, i wouldn't use a smeargle outside of combat other than just trading and breeding him for hard to get moves. great breeding tool but lacking in the offensive department. no thanks.

Smeargle is an excellent pokemon to set up for sweepers.

Yes, but its speed is, ok. If with the right nature [jolly]
also with Choice Scarf it can outrun pretty much anything. Other then
pkmn who used moves like DD or Agility or Ninjask or etc...
And with the move Spore it can make a pretty good lead.
But this is just a thought in my head and can easily be ruined with Vacuum Wave or Mach Punch.

And yay, im being mentioned.

Well, Match Punch is like, level 4 on the speed charts while other moves are 1. But anyway, Smeargle has a better Def Stat too, although it's low, it's like his 3rd highest stat lol. He may be week, but he's very useful with maxed speed, you know?

Mach (Mawwk) Punch is a fighting type while smeargle is a normal...super effective, and goes first...so one pokemon lowers him to about 30% or so then you use Mach(mawwk) Punch

Yes, but one of Smeargles good base stats is defense, which will give you a little time, besides, Mach Punch isn't really used that often. It's rare to find someone who actually uses it over the internet.

That's why I stated what is above...

an attacking smeargle???

the only useful moves for a smeargle to attack with are explosion, extreme speed, and seismic toss.

smogon is your friend (http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/smeargle)

not so revelp. i cant remember who it was, but i was battling someone on 3vs3 with a smeargle holding focus sash with the moves spore, agility, quick attack, and lastly endeavor.

First i used Close combat, he held on with focus Sash, used Spore, then agility, endeavor, and quick attack, there goes pokeman #1, he was quicker than pokeman #2 and #3, so he used spore on them both, then endeavor and quick attack.

yeah.. i got pwned..XD

Oh, I've seen a similar one on YouTube. Kinda like the smeargle version of a FEAR rattata, only it had Ice Shard instead of Quick Attack. Probably because Quick Attack has no effect on ghost types.
