What's this? A Brawl tournament in Pokefarm!? =O

[Gouswer]

Well there has been some talk about a Brawl tournament on the SSBB group so I decided to organize one. It will take place on Saturday August 9th, at 9:30PM Eastern time. It will be bracket styled, and your opponent for the first round will be randomly selected. Here are the rules.

-You advance by winning 3 out of 5 matches against your opponent. Both the loser and winner will report to the active thread the results of the 5 or less matches.

-No Items, this includes Smash Balls.

-You can change characters or remain the same for all of your matches. There are no restrictions and you don't have to choose your character prior to the tourney's start.

-You are not allowed to end the match in a draw. If you do, you will loose that round. So no pressing start and ending the match. The only time you are allowed to do this is if there is extreme lag, and if that's the case you must end the match before you even move, and you are forced to use the same character you picked before for the next match.

-Battlefield, Smashville, and Final Destination are the 3 stages to be played on. This may change if someone suggests something else. They were chosen to prevent lag, stage hazards and such.

Hopefully we can get atleast 8 people here. To join post your Brawl Name and FC. IF you sign up plz show up at least 5 minutes before the tournament starts. I'll participate in this aswell.

I have some experience with it. I used to help my dad organize table shuffleboard tourneys.

Usually we would create the bracket and then assign a number to each of the first tier. Then we would draw names of the teams and draw a number and then fill the brackets that way.

You can place in filler names, like "Pass", and then let it randomly assign that like any other participant. I'm not familiar with the program and my work computer won't let me open the website, so maybe I can be more helpful after I get home tonight. :sad:

i doubt every person that signs up will be able to dedicate the same day to playing in a smash bros tourny. i mean, i wouldn't be surprised if half the people either don't show, or don't stay for the whole tourny.

i think it'd be a much wiser idea to have the tourny span over a week or so, and have people schedule matches with each other.
but hey, if everyone that signs up can make it on the same day, than that'd be sweet! :D

The reason of the time is do to lag problems. The servers have less people playing at night , and thus the matches run more smooth. Would 9:00 EST be any better for you? I've also noticed that Pokefarm has a lot of activity during 10 EST.

And timmy, I've been to some tournys on IGN, and at least 3/4th's of the persons there show up for the tourny. Since this is Pokefarm my standards are higher. And having tournaments that arent the same day don't usually go well on IGN, because a lot of people loose interested half way trough:(.

Something has been brought to my attention. A new rule has been made.

I don't think the lag will be that much of a problem as long as the people have an allright connection. I just had several team matches with PokemasterSD,plusle, and Chuckles and the only part where we had significant lag was at the beggining when the characters entered the stage.

Maybe we should have a round-robin first and then pair people up after doing that. You know, have a week or two where people need to battle each other than then do the acutal doubles tourneyment. Similar to the EPL and how it's set up.

Well, I really want people to chooose their partners. I wound't like to be partnered up with someone who I don't get along with. Anyways 2vs2 brawling is a lot different from normal brawling. Tried it out once, and my normal strategies didn't work. I would probably suggest trying out a few people before you choose your partner. You should expect to see sign up sheets within a week or so, but you don't have to sign up until the 28th. If you are interested I would suggest to start trying out partners now, if your looking for a place to find partners, may I suggest the place where the previous tourny was hosted? To my surprise, it has become quite popular :D
