View Full Version : Battle and Win the Gym... maybe?
What if you could battle a gym leader here in the forum for their gym? Of course it won't be as easy as just beating them... Maybe if you battle them and win in a FREE battle AFTER you've beaten all the gym leaders AND the elite four (whenever that comes in)? I mean think of it, other people will want to have their own gym, and it would be a worthy challenge for the leaders to defend their titles with a full-out free battle. Just an idea... X3
Sorry, PSP has a text limit...
Anyway, the same can go for the Elite Four and Champion. What will happen to the champion once he/she becomes an ex-champion? It would be unfair and exhausting to start all over again. Why not just give him/her a ribbon icon (the one your pokemon get if they beat the sinnoh league in the real game) and let them decide what to do next? Oh! And perhaps in the future we could also make sections for the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn gyms and leagues as well?
Text limit again...
But as I was saying, this takes the whole battle concept to a much higher level! Current members will be more involved and we may even attract more members with this. OMG I thought out and typed out a storm. XD Well, I'm done... What do you all think?
(This should probably have been posted in the battle section... I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong section, Admins! DUNN KILL MEEE! XD)

They already have a Gym system in place here. It is under the Pokemon League section of the Forum.

No and im not just saying that because im a gym leader. The system wouldn't work. People would complain. Also they wouldn't be showing of their talent with the type of the gym. That idea for the Champion i am all for. I think that is a great idea. Also in the game you do not become the gym leader if you win. But the champion you do.
But the ex-champions would feel hard done to. However if they only have to do the elite four again then they dont need to worry. But the whole elite four wouldn't work because of the time consumingness of the elite four.
But on a whole your idea is fair. Good in the champions bits. Bad in the gym leader bits.

Also the extra legues would be too much. The more legues you have the less Gymless members their are. The gyms are supposed to be a difficult thing to do not a every1 has one kinda thing. Also I don't think the mods and admins will be bother wiht the location of this thread.
Yeah, I guess the Sinnoh league is plenty enough. But I don't get what you mean by members complaining. What I mean is that basically, the ex-Champion could be given a choice of whether or not to try redeem their title as Champion or try get their own gym via free battles. Also, this way, we keep the gym leaders in tip-top shape and prune out the less capable ones. Of course when they win the gym, they will have to devise a team specialized for the gym type. But I'm glad you like my ideas for the Champion.
PSP limit.
Oh, and one more thing. We don't have to stick to exactly how the story goes, it's fun to be creative! I mean, who really knows what happens after a Champion retires or loses. I could definitely see an ex-champion leading his/her own gym. It'd be a nice pokemon episode to watch, actually. Lol. With that aside, I'm sure if planned out thoroughly it could work out. =)

The Pokemon League Champion will gain special perks. Even once they are defeated they will still retain some rights and perks.
As for the Elite Four... Let's just say i have something very interesting in store!

I have never battled another human person. I am really thinking about giving it a try. Since I have been breeding Pokemon, I really want to test them out. Just trying to think if I can beat that Boulder Gym Leader. Anyone have a strategy guide for the Gym leaders hehe.
how much difference in strength is there between a caught pkmn and a bred pkmn anyway? i just breed for the sake of pkmn moves... never really paid attention to the change in stats =/

Check pokemon.marriland.com and look up a pokemon on the advance pokedex, and they will tell you a wild pokemon's max stats and a trained one's.

Depends. Every Pokemon is different, but breeding Pokemon can keep a good IV Pokemon passing on those good genes. I have caught some in the wild with good IVs, mostly Ditto is the most sought after wild IV Pokemon. This is because Ditto cannot be bred to make it better then it is when it is caught. However if you have a good IV Ditto then breeding other Pokemon with higher IVs is a snap.
I should change my name to IV. Does not matter what the original question is, I turn it into an IV rant. I need to stop by that thread about You know you are addicted to pokemon when. I think I have an IV addiction.

Hey no problem. I am just happen to be able to share what I have learned and my wife is so pleased that I no longer share it with her he-he. I have O.C.D. so if I don't know the answer to something I will search the internet, library, or any other source I can find until I do know the answer.

That is the difference between a wild Pokemon and a trained one. A level 50 wild Gloom is going to be weaker then a Level 50 trained Gloom. The trained one gets EVs factored into its stats, a wild Pokemon only gains EVs when it becomes a caught Pokemon.
The only difference between a wild Pokemon and a hatched Pokemon as from Nak's question is, when you breed Pokemon you have more control over their IVs and which in turn can make them stronger then wild Pokemon, but you can catch wild Pokemon with good IVs as well. So basically you can get strong Pokemon from hatching or catching. Now egg breeding for stronger moves will almost always give an advantage to the bred Pokemon over a wild one.
oh ok... well i know that.. but what if i caught my pokemon at say, level 6 and then trained it myself from there on? is there going to be that big of a difference compared to a pokemon you bredd and take care of from level 1?

But for them to become the Champion they have to of got all the gym badges. So they allready have the perfect team sitting in their box.
Also members would complain because if you just lose your gym like that after just gaining it people wouldnt be happy. I personally would hate losing my gym because I waited like a week or so to get mine. I trained at least 4 teams for them all to be rejected and finally I got one. And then if I lost it I would scream. Do you understand?? But i can see the ex-champ running a like Pokeschool in which he gives hints and tips to people and they can challenge him to test out their teams.
I think maybe if you created a poll? That would get the public vote. Not about the repo of gyms but the champion ideas and the extra gyms.

If you are EV training them and check both their stats at say level 50 there would be no difference besides how many EVs they had, Nature Differences, and the IV differences. That is why a Pokemon hatched at level 1 say a Gloom would be stronger then a Level 50 Gloom that is caught fresh. Your Level 1 Gloom would have 49 levels of EVs added.
oooh ok.. that clears it out.. thanks again! =3

But I thought you could have only 510 EV's.

Whether you catch a Pokemon or hatch a Pokemon the Ev's will be the same= 0.
There will be other differences though, the nature, IVs, and Characteristic.
First the nature tells you how your Pokemon will grow, as 20/25 natures will
add 10% to one stat and take 10% from another.
The other 5 natures are neutral, and don't add or take away anything.
Characteristic are important because they tell you what your Pokemon's
Highest IV will be.
IVs or Individual Values are the random hidden numbers that dictate how strong your Pokemon will be.
This is the major differnce between fresh caught Pokemon and bread Pokemon.
When you catch a Pokemon you are stuck with the IVs you got.
When you are breading on the other hand, you get 2 random IVs
from each Pokemon that you are breading on to your baby Pokemon.
That is What most Pokemon breeder try to do.
So unless you are unlucky, a breed Pokemon will always be better the a wild caught Pokemon.
I hope this helps you.
Ps. Unless you are cheating there is now way you can get a lvl1 Gloom.

Hmm let me clear my throat:-D
510 is the max you can have in EVs. You can only put 255 EVs into 1 stat, so that would be 2 stats maxed out, but wait 4 EVs give you 1 stat point. So 255 EVs is actually wasting points, wait what 255/4 = 63.75 so 252 EVs give you 63 total points to one stat. That means 252 into two stats and 6 EVs left over which you could put all 6 into a 3rd stat and get 1 point extra to that stat.
Also that means EVs from Vitamins would be limited to 51 total Vitamins with a max of 10 Vitamins per stat. Also remember to use Vitamins before EV training. If you gain 60 EVs you will only be able to gain to 100 EVs from Vitamins so that is 4 Vitamins. Better to use 10 Vitamins from the start then add the training EVs.
*applause*
and there you have it folks!

you can only have 510 ev's correct, but what he means is that the trained poke has had 49 levels to gain ev's, whereas the wild one has none

I originally started this post to flame someone, but I had a change of heart. Leith had said
Ps. Unless you are cheating there is now way you can get a lvl1 Gloom. I used Gloom as an example off the top of my head and did not think about it not being able to be a Level 1. I don't take the word cheating next to something I wrote to kindly, but that is no reason to fly off at someone. However I can do it more constructively. Leith also said in the same post
So unless you are unlucky, a breed Pokemon will always be better the a wild caught Pokemon. Well I have said a few times that wild Pokemon can be as strong as bred Pokemon. First off where do great bred Pokemon come from? Well they come from great caught wild Pokemon. How can bred Pokemon be less then their parents? Well lets see how they get their stats. This is taken straight from another post I made on the thread I started at IV Reference (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showthread.php?t=734)
Example Time
Parent A has the following IVs: 21, 7, 26, 15, 4, 10.
Parent B has the following IVs: 5, 3, 16, 30, 28, 20.
First, the baby's IVs are generated at random: 18, 0, 9, 14, 11, 27.
Then a parent's random IV is chosen, and passed to the baby. Suppose Parent A's Speed IV is chosen first.
So now the baby's IVs are: 18, 0, 9, 14, 11, 10.
Finally, a parent's random IV (other than an HP or a Defense IV) is chosen, and inherited to the baby.
Suppose Parent B's Special Attack IV is chosen. And the baby's IVs thus become: 18, 0, 26, 30, 11, 10.
Now that baby Pokemon is still as good as it parents in some stages, yet not in all. It received Parent B's Higher Special Attack IV with Parent A's Lower Speed IV, but it also gained Parent A's Higher Defense IV.
In Closing
Again from my same post in IV Reference (http://forum.pokefarm.com/showthread.php?t=734)
Note that the amount of IVs passed from the parents is not always 3, for the following two reasons. Firstly, the random baby IVs created at the start might match some of the IVs of the parents, which would seem as if the baby got passed more than 3 IVs. Secondly, two or three of the IVs passed to the baby might be in the same stat, which would seem as if the baby got passed less than 3 IVs.
Pwnage Tip # 37: If you really wanna PWN someone, throw a lot of numbers at them. They'll be so lost, they won't know what to say. Like Buzzy Boy over here. I'm lost and I'm not even the one he's trying to PWN. XD
But I think the whole thing may have had just been a big misunderstanding, Buzz. ^o^;; I think Leith just didn't get that you were just using Gloom as an example in your mind and not in the actual game.
