What every snow team fears is a fire pokemon messing up their fun. The hail team leader, Abomasnow, has a 4X weakness to fire so you need something to counter that and Walrein is the Ice team’s answer. Its water typing neutralizes its fire weakness and it can counter with water moves and in these babies, earthquake.
Walrein has a higher base in Special attack, but a great move pool to choose from in physical attacks. Along with Earthquake it can learn Body Slam at level 19 which has a 30% chance of paralyzing opponents, can learn HMs Strength (Normal, Power 80) and Waterfall (Water, STAB Power 80) and can learn Ice Fang (Ice STAB Power 65, 10% of freezing and flinching opponent) at level 44 and can learn Avalanche by TM (Ice STAB, Power 60 but doubles if attacked first, that’s 180 power with the STAB boost).
Because of Walrein’s versatility as a Physical or Special attacker, I bred these guys without an everstone and am offering a variety of natures
They have two abilities:
Ice Body:
Heals 1/16 of their HP while it is Hailing
Thick Fat:
Halves the damage taken by Fire and Ice Attacks. This essentially gives Walrein a 2X resistance to fire and an 8X resistance to Ice attacks.
Their moves are:
Hail:
Summons a Hailstorm that lasts five turns. Ideally Abomasnow’s Storm Warning will start the hail, but if a Hippowdon or Tyranitar switches in or a Sunny Day, Sandstorm or Rain Dance gets used on your team, Hail will get the weather going back in your direction.
Protect:
This move shields you from damage allowing you to scout out the next move. Strap Leftovers on your Ice Body Walrein and you can recover twice the HP during a Hailstorm.
Earthquake (Ground, Power 100 Acc 100):
A great counter move for Fire and Electric pokemon who might try to take advantage of Walrein’s water typing.
Blizzard (Ice, STAB Power 120, Acc 70):
Walrein’s bread and butter move. When it is Hailing, Blizzard’s accuracy improves to 100% and can break through Protect and Detect 25% of the time.
