View Full Version : Question on gym rules.
Is a gym allowed to prevent the use of a certain pokemon?
My thread regarding smogon's decision to put garchomp in THEIR uber tier was closed because of my describing a rule (for the mine gym) not allowing garchomp.
And today, Gym assistant slizer d/ced from a match with gouswer on the grounds that he was using a garchomp. He outlined a rule that garchomp is not allowed when battling him.
So, are gyms allowed to have rules like that?

I hope not >.>. I was about to sweep, and was 2 pokemon ahead, when he told me Chompy was Uber. I told him many times that that was only in Smogon, and that was not against the rules. He proceeded to Run. Do I get the win? Since he ran while I did not break any rules, plus I had informed him that Chomp was allowed in PF numerous times before he ran.
EDIT: He made up the new rule after he ran :3

Gouswer, just be patient until a Mod or Admin investigates. I'm sure they will do the right thing :) As for chatting about it, it would probably be best if you just sit quietly and wait ;)
Sorry Seth for jumping in your thread, just trying to keep peace :)

I didn't want anyone to come here and defend themselves. I was hoping to get an answer from a mod or admin without having to pm all of them. I'm terribly sorry.
You can close this one too i guess.

Im not 100% sure but gym leaders ARE allowed to have thier own specific rules. One of the gym rules is no ubers/legends. This rule was put into place way before Buzz decided PF have our own tier. So where were we checking to see whats Uber? Smogon most likely. If they put Wobba into uber and nobody had a problem then why is Garchomp any diffrent? If the experts that know alot more then me decided on this move then I have no reason to object. Like I said many times before, these guys know what thier doing.

You have a right to ask questions, so no need to appologize. I'm sure as soon as one of them pop in, they'll help you out :)
If you don't want people to post comments in defense, just state so in your first post ;) You could post something like...

Hope this helps :)

I'm going to ask that no one reply to anyone's post. I don't want an argument. Just an answer.

No. You could have you own specific Clauses, but not certain pokemon. It's like me banning E-Vire from my Gym. Just because i want it gone. :l
You cannot do that.

Im thinking you can if the poke is now considered uber. Ubers are not allowed in gyms right? Garchomp is now uber so that means he's banable. Unless PF decides not to brand chomp as uber.

THat is pretty much the discussion that is taking place among the mods. The tiers are as they are posted in the battle tower. Garchomp is not an uber there, so is fine for the gyms. Any changes in the tiers will be made public via announcement, i'm sure.
I do have mod powers, so if you want to consider that being a mod speaking on the issue, fine. I'm just speaking from the way I see things going in the other discussions.
Garchomp is currently not Uber according to Pokefarm.

So gyms do not have the authority to make a rule like that?

individually? i'm not an authority on the subject, but my vote would be no.
But then i'm against gyms assigning their own clauses too, I think that if someone challenges a gym, it should be the same experience (except for the team/types) on all of them.
but i suppose you still aren't any closer to your answer, but your answer is here:
I'm positive that this will be one of the decisions to come out of the discussion among the mods/admins. Until then, outlawing pokemon is not within the realm of a Gym Leader's scope.

Figured, thanks!

Yes, this issue is being discussed by the Gym Leaders right now.
We will keep the discussion private until we reach a decsion.

For now we ask that all Pokemon League Gyms follow the tiering that pokefarm has set up here above all. If Smogon decides to make Bellosom or Magikarp Uber, then we must wait for the discussions to take place and tier changes to be made before Gym Leaders & their Assistants start banning them from battles.
