This month thanks to an idea submitted by Meeker we have the region tournament. You get to battle with your favorite generation of pokes VS someone elses favorite.


BRACKETS ARE MADE!

-4 pokes per team
-All 4 pokes must be from the same region. (All kanto or all jhoto for example)
-Limit 1 OU per team
-no ubers
-The tournament starts on the 21st
-Deadline for entrees is one week from today unless your team is already complete

PokéFarm Clauses




Species Clause







It is NOT permitted to have two or more of the exact same Pokémon in a team.
Pokémon from the same Family are however permitted (i.e. Pichu, Pikachu, and Raichu).

Duplicate Item Clause is off




Evasion Clause



Moves that directly increase evasion (such as Double Team and Minimize) are NOT permitted in battle.
Taking advantage of abilities such as Sand Veil and Snow Cloak are permitted. They are abilities, and do not directly affect evasion status.

Self-K.O. Clause



When both parties are down the last Pokémon, Self-K.O. moves (such as Explosion, Destiny Bond, Perish Song, Memento, etc.) will cause an automatic loss for its user.
Abilities such as Aftermath do not count since they are abilities and not moves.

Sleep Clause



It is NOT permitted that the status Sleep (SLP) be applied to more than one of the opponent's Pokémon at a time. The opponent's currently sleeping Pokémon must first awaken or get knocked out before Sleep may be cast on the opponent's Pokémon once again.
Applying the status Sleep while using random-selection moves (such as Assist, Metronome, Sleep Talk, etc.) does NOT violate this clause.
The move Yawn (unless used with moves such as Assist, Metronome, Sleep Talk, etc.) violates this clause.
Self-inflicted Sleep (such as Rest) does NOT count in this clause, as it is voluntarily inflicted by the user and not by the opponent.
If ability-inflicted Sleep (such as Effect Spore, etc.) is already in effect, applying Sleep to another Pokémon violates this clause. However, this clause is NOT violated if the ability takes effect after the status Sleep has already been applied.

One-hit KO (O.H.K.O.) Clause



One-hit K.O. moves (such as Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, Sheer Cold, etc.) are NOT permitted, as they hugely rely on chance and not skill.

Just a quick questions, how do we determine the tier class for non fully evolved pokemon?

Look in the battle tower under the tier system listed there - the non-evolved pokemon are listed i believe.

The not fully evolved Pokémon never had their testing finished in the Poké Academy so they are listed as BL and below. None of the NFE would be strong enough to match their evolved forms in the OU tier.

Like I said the Poké Academy never got to finish testing the NFE so as it stands they are listed as nothings BL or lower. The NFE are ranked below their fully evolved forms regardless of how they match against others in the OU tier. More testing would need to be done to put them into tiers. Out of the first testing for example the 3 Pokémon tested were proven to be stronger then the NU tier. Well tested against their strength and weaknesses they were stronger then the NU Tier.


Sorry if anyone wants to discuss the NFE and testing them please PM me instead. I don't want to get off the tournament here.

If I were ever to win, I'd probably just have the prize sent to the second-place winner; if I received a Pokemon prize in the mail, my parents would kill me. I know charity donations were talked about, too; I think that could be a good alternative. But that's beside the point; the tourney hasn't even started yet. Could we do a thing where those people with PBR battle on PBR if they wish, and then those with just D/P would just battle on its Wi-Fi? I don't want to be left out of the tournament just b/c I don't have PBR, and I'm sure others feel similarly.

Wouldn't a "PBR optional" clause kinda defeat the purpose of a PBR only tourney? :lol:

I think the poll is to determine if there are enough people interested to warrent a PBR tournament. I for one would love an excuse to fire my copy up again & get some battles in that don't involve an all-uber internet player.

Having a high number of current infraction points will also prevent you from taking part in some tournaments and Gym Battles. So be good and follow the rules!

O.K. I found out last night that 2 of my Pokémon were not EV trained. For some reason I evolved them and never trained them. Glad I went to get my Effort Ribbon. Took about an hour and half but both are now EV trained and my team of 4 is complete.

It pains me to say this but there is a chance I won't be able to participate in the tourney anymore :( My internet has been messing up for the past 2 days. For some reason this morning it seems to be working but usually that is for a very short time. I'm afraid if I play over wi-fi it will disconnect at some random point. In case the same problem happens again if you're suppose to face me in the tourney and I don't reply back to your messages that's the reason. I might be able to go to my cousin's place to use their Internet, but if no one gets a reply from me in a long time then I guess I won't be able to participate.

I am pretty excited about this tournament. The last time I was this excited about battling was my first battle as Beacon Gym Leader.

My team has 2 Pokémon I never used before. I bred them a long time ago.

One is actually the father to one of Nak's first Fen Gym team's Pokémon.

Being counted on how? Like people predicting you would win? I would take people choosing you to win would really show how much people respect your battling skill. I have never battled you, but from reading and hearing about some of your battles, I know that you have to have some talent for others to think so highly of you.

Trust me, complements are few and far between for battlers. Sure everyone says nice battle after a battle, but how many talk in depth with you about the battle? I can almost count how many trainers when I ran the Beacon Gym actually had something to say after a battle other then nice battle, winners or those that loss.

If someone talked about the battle in post or PM then I was pretty sure I did something to impress.

I am not sure though, are you saying you don't want to do anymore tournaments because people expect you to win? I believe it was pretty much a 50/50 split on Alirrath or you winning from those I talked to, well 1 person voted for meowthmix.

That paralyze on your lead completely was unexpected and mess up my only way of knocking out your lead.

I can't believe how much the status' inflicted messed with my strategy. That FRZ completely ruined the small comeback he-he.

I tried to double Protect at the end, I knew I would not be able to withstand another hit, so my only option was another protect and pray he-he.

I had the same thing with my Void. I am not sure but I think void went on a run and took down 3 of JAWZ Pokémon. His lead though was too tough for my other pokés to deal with, whittle his HP down, but could not take him down.

Void did better then I thought and in the end it came down to 1 round, I knew I would be finished if I took one hit, that left out an attack, I don't think I could have finished his poke off with an attack. So it was take a huge risk and pray he-he.

In all I thought the battle was going to be over quick, JAWZ was awesome. Somehow I managed to work around and we had a battle that lasted 1 hour 20 minutes.

Well I never expected to be OHKO'd by a STABBED base 60 power move.

Also never thought a STABBED base 80 power move would drop my Umbreon like it did. I know Umbreon was not full power, but it was over 3/4's full.

Umbreon was did it's job well, until I forgot Pokémon with Poison type can't be poisoned.

I told you before the battle to stop sweating the battle, I was rusty and you battle better then you give yourself credit for.

I just can't believe how utterly useless my Miltank was. It was Belias I used so I should not be completely shocked. Belias was built to lead, Stealth Rock, Body Slam to paralyze, and Milk Drink if she has any HP left. Also has Earthquake for a few pesky leads I use to run into.

Other then that Void did very well for me. He single handedly brought the battle between me and JAWZ from 4-1 to 1-0.

Tidus was the first time I used him was in this tournament, I knew from your lead that Tidus was a wash out.

Then poor poor Ekaro, just 1 HP away from saving the day. That little Lanturn has saved my but numerous times.

Your team is well built. Well what I got to see of it he-he.

I think I managed to predict him right. You have a bit of a move pattern with him. JAWZ had one Pokémon that he kinda had a move pattern and I got to predict it for an easy Toxic and Wish.

I was using the basic ToxicStall Umbreon. I used Wish against JAWZ and I knew when I did he knew Protect was coming next. He used a weaker move in what I think was an attemp to save PP on his big moves. So on that Wish Protect pattern, I decided to go with Toxic instead of Protect.

Well I managed to take little damage, Poison his Pokémon, and Wish back my HP. That little risk changed the entire battle, until Umbreon ran out of PP he-he. I forgot to PP Up my Umbreon before the battle he-he.

I am pretty happy with Umbreon. I know it is the base Toxic/Stall set, but it worked and I think I may work on breeding a new chain of Eevees to rebuild my Umbreon.

Nice battle guys. I am out a bit earlier then I would have liked, but I battled 2 very good trainers and I can't wait to see how the rest of the tournament goes for them both.

Oh and tell Adam, the Gym Leader Buzz a few months ago would have been shocked as well if Buzz made a mistake, but like you said everyone makes mistakes and once you learn that and can be comfortable with it, then you stop worrying about it.

I think I got to comfortable in the gym setting. I knew my team so well and would just kinda run on autopilot.

I know this is a long rant, but one more story from the tournament to share.

Battling JAWZ, as I watched Pokémon after Pokémon fall, I was getting livid. I cannot lose 4-0, I just can't not in the first round. I would think this has to work and boom I get nailed. I was up out of my chair jumping around and yelling. I have never jumped out of my chair and yelled at the wall he-he.

The I thought, wait a minute, calm down. What do you lose if you lose the battle? A chance at some bragging rights. A new toy. Nothing as important as losing my self control and risking the chance of me blowing up and taking it out on JAWZ for battling a brilliant match.

So I calmed down, actually said a small prayer, something like please just let me KO one. Arceus smiled and as I brought my 3rd Pokémon Ekaro back to his PokéBall for some much needed rest, I tossed out Void and said it is all up to you. (Yes I know how sad it is for a grown man to talk to Pokémon) Void comes out and he has to drop the beast that just KO'd 3 of his teammates. It was paralyzed, so the ToxicStall would not work. I managed a few paralyzes stopping his Pokémon and got it to the red, OMG please. Down it went. And the next 2 Pokémon went down with the Toxic/Stall tactics. The last one though when I saw it thought, this is going to get interesting. I went for Toxic. The blast Void took was great. I thought man I should have Wished first and then Protected to heal up. I was not expecting that big of a hit though. So when I Wished this time, I got to Protect, but I knew it was not enough. Another Wish and Protect and I was healed up, but not enough to do it again. I knew one more hit would faint me, so I had to go for a double Protect and hope it hit and the poison would do it's job. Well double Protect did not work and I fell.

O.K. end rant. ;)

Well I never took battling to seriously, but the losses hurt more then they should. It is human nature to want to win. It should not drive you though.

I think I did pretty well for my run as a Gym Leader. I may not have had the best record of any Gym Leader, but I think I provided a challenge without being to dominant.

I believe my Link Battles on my trainer card says W 86 L 82, so around 50%. That is average and being average is fine with me.

Not bad for a guy that never battled or really bred before this site. I never battled until my first battle as Beacon Gym Leader.

I don't know if this is my place to post, but I wanted to mention that JAWZ's team may be a minor error. His team used 2 OU against me, but I never said anything because on Smogon his team only has 1 OU. It was not until Alirrath posted that I checked the first post again and saw it was using the Battle Tower tiers.

I do however accept my loss to him and will not push for a do over. I don't want it to reshuffle the tournament this far in. I should have said something earlier.

Also that is why I posted an updated tier list with a combination of 3 other forums and a few minor tweaks to Smogons tiers.

I also did away with the NU tier and just made 1 UU tier.

Buzz is right. Kurt you're improving gradually with each battle. The important thing is not to let your nerves get the best of you. Don't make impulse decisions. Trust your intincts and have a coffee before the battle lol. Annie is tough whether she admits it or not. Just do your best and have fun.
