We must get beyond textbooks, go out into the bypaths... and tell the world the glories of our journey.
John Hope Franklin
As I stared at the ceiling as I had all night, I began hearing the buzzing of the alarm. It was time to begin my pokemon journey. I wasn't one of those selected few that were allowed to have a starter pokemon. You see, I didn't come from a rich family; I didn't have any connections. I was just the granddaughter of the old daycare couple by Goldenrod City. I had been growing up with pokemon my entire life, yet had spent no more than a week with a single pokemon. People were always leaving pokemon with us, but always came right back to pick them up. As I stood up and got dressed, I noticed something. Well, I mean noticed nothing. I didn't hear a single peep out of the entire house except for branches scratching against my window. When I put on my aqua-blue pants, I found half a piece of paper reading...
Your...
and...
have...
to...
you...
pokemon...
we...
supply...
pokemon...
you.
I tucked it back into my jeans. As I pulled my electric yellow scarf on, I noticed another note reading...
...grandfather
...I
...decided
...give
...two
...since
...cannot
...starter
...for
I ignored the gibberish and shoved it into my pocket. I then realized that they must have accidentally torn, so I put them together.
Your grandfather and I have decided to give you two pokemon since we cannnot supply starter pokemon for you.
I ran into the kitchen barefoot. The lights were out. "Grandma?" I called. "Grandpa?" The lights flashed on.
"Surprise!" They coughed. The room was covered in streamers and balloons.
"You guys didn't have to do this for me. After all, this is my goodbye party."
"Oh no. What would make you think that we wouldn't?" grandpa interjected.
"Besides, this isn't even the biggest part. What would the start of your pokemon journey be without pokemon. We took into special consideration your own unique personality when picking them out, you know?"
"And we came up with the two pokemon we think you would get along with best."
"What are you guys talking about?"
"Well, you know that your grandmother and I aren't as young as we used to be, so we aren't able to try to catch pokemon any more. So..."
"...We held onto the pokemon eggs that trainers left behind or never knew about and..."
"...Hatched them ourselves so that we could get you pokemon for your journey."
"So without further ado we would like to introduce to you, your new pokemon." Grandma went around the corner into the hallway. She came back carrying two pokeballs. "Here you are Crystal. Remember, a trainer is only as good as their pokemon, and a pokemon is only as good as their trainer. You have to work as one." She handed the two pokeballs to me.
I hurled them into the air. A bolt of white light emerged from them releasing...
