View Full Version : Seeking Latias advice

I'm in the process of completing and cleaning out my Emerald game (that is, Pal Park-ing my Pokes to GenIV) and I've managed to catch all of the version-exclusive legendaries except Latias. My problem is not being able to snag it; rather, it's simply finding it. I've encountered it a few times, so it's in the Pokedex, but getting to its Pokedex page is so cumbersome and time-consuming (at least, compared to D/P's Marking Map) that it doesn't help much. Most of the time, I just go back and forth between, say Route 118 and Mauville City, and hope that Latias ends up on my route. Unfortunately, it never happens, even if Latias is in the area. The last time I went after either of the Lati@s, it was four years ago, so I don't remember if either was as much of a pain then as Latias is right now.
I apologize for ranting somewhat, but I'm getting frustrated, especially since I have a near-foolproof plan to catch Latias if I ever see it. If anyone has any advice on how to make Latias get closer to my location faster, I'd be more than interested in hearing it. Thanks in advance.

Your right about the marking map being a pain. I know I caught mine by going to Sootopolis City and out through the underwater pass until they showed up in my pokedex map. Latios and Latias seem more common over water and both areas are limited in space to search

yeah, all you really have to do is find two routes and switch between them checking if she's there each time. Really, there is nothing else...

Also, have a pokemon with Mean Look. They aren't afraid to run!
But yes, Moving back and forth is how I caught all legendaries from Diamond.

another useful tip is to capture them using the masterball XP, that's my way to capture those types of pokemon:)

I use pokeballs, just to have fun.

I went from Sootopolis to Route 126, and I thought that did the trick since Latias was on Route 126's surface while I was on its floor. Well, I surfaced, and...Latias was on the other side of Hoenn. Shocking. That's about par for the course for this night.

I was afraid of that. This is probably why Game Freak made the Marking Map so easily accessible in D/P.

The Mean Look Poke would've been used in part three of my evil plan. What I would've done had I found this (insert adjective here) was use my Manectric in the first meeting to paralyze it with Thunder Wave, use my Shedinja in the second and possibly third meetings (however many necessary) to False Swipe-it to 1 HP, then use my Umbreon in all subsequent meetings to park Latias in its tracks while I hit it with a barrage of Ultra and Timer Balls. However, I lack the patience to keep searching for it so I guess I'll just proceed with the rest of the GenIV migration and leave her behind, so to speak.

Well, you could stop for a while(not searching for latias for a while),and then well, the best place to go BACK and FOURTH and get luck is at mauwile city(four paths/routes,that should help).
AND WHAT EVER YOU DO,DO NOT FLY NEAR LATIAS'S LOCATION!SHE WILL GO SOME WHERE FURTHER!!!!!!!

Tried that, no dice. I would go to Route 117, Latias would go to every route around Mauville but 117. Went to Route 110, Latias went to every route around Mauville but 110. You get the picture. It's almost like Emerald was programmed in such a way that you can't make Lati@s appear on your time.

You shouldn't go right to the route.Go to the route next to her and she may go there.(trust me.It worked.I'm still trying to catch Latios and plan to migrate it.)

I didn't go right to the route Latias was on; I was illustrating the point that whatever route I was on, Latias never came onto it no matter how many times I entered and left Mauville. In any event, this is a moot point now; I ran into Latias six times yesterday and caught it.
