"A Christmas Tale"

Let me tell you of a Christmas
That almost didn’t come;
The air was cold, the streets were dark,
All remained so glum.

There was no snow packed on the ground,
No lights strung on the tree;
No candy canes, no paper chains,
What had happened to the glee?

It came a gloomy Christmas Eve,
And nothing seemed so wrong,
As a Christmas without that trademark spirit,
And front doorsteps without song.

Young Pikachu woke to grief and dismay,
There was no spirit like that he once knew;
Christmas was just one day away!
Whatever could he do?

He ran out into the town square,
Trying to find the unjust cause;
Nothing was seen, so he returned home
To see a fellow just like Claus.

A Delibird stood at his front door,
Rapping gently on the wood;
Pikachu approached it and it said,
“Please help me, if you could!”

“It’s almost Christmas time, you see
And I have reason to fear it;
I have to deliver presents to the world,
But I’ve lost my Christmas spirit!”

So that’s what happened, Pikachu thought
As he listened to Delibird speak;
If I don’t help this new friend out,
Our Christmas future will be bleak!

“I’d be glad to help you out!”
Said Pikachu with a smile;
“Great!” Delibird replied merrily;
“I’ll make it worth your while.”

“But first, we must get to the North Pole
Where rests my factory;
Maybe returning to my workshop
Will fill me once more with glee.”

Pikachu and Delibird began to walk
Through inches of deep, white snow;
Many a time, they’d slip and fall,
But onward north they’d go.

Hours passed with nothing in sight
But the bare white ground ahead;
As it grew darker, Pikachu wondered
If they’d even make it to Santa’s sled.

“So, what exactly went on, then?”
Asked Pikachu with wonder;
“Well,” Delibird sighed,
“I made quite the blunder.”

“My Ralts elves have been hard at work
Since late this past July;
But one of them was slacking,
And I had to find out why.

“I asked him,
‘What is wrong here, dear friend?’
He replied with fatigue,
‘I’ve worked with no end!’

“‘I’ve built, wrapped, and boxed
All these new Christmas toys
But why don’t I get the same spirit
As all the young girls and boys?

“‘Christmas isn’t the same
Without a little good cheer!’
So he left in a huff, and I haven’t seen him
Since that day earlier this year.

“The elves hold the true spirit
That we feel on Christmas Day,
But when one of them is sad,
It just vanishes away.

“The elf should still live
In his house on the Pole;
If we hurry, we can save Christmas
And give more than just coal!”

So the duo set off quickly
In search of Ralts the elf,
Knowing he’d determine
If toys would be on kids’ shelves.

As they walked, darkness
Fell over like a blanket;
“We must hurry!” Delibird yelled,
“Or we’re not going to make it!”

They made haste,
Hoping to find the gruff Ralts,
And knowing without him
That Christmas would halt.

A bright light up ahead
Showed the pair the way,
“Up ahead, and hurry!
We haven’t got all day!”

They walked through the square
Of the jolly, old town,
Pikachu couldn’t help
But to stop and look ‘round.

“Look at this! Look at that!”
He marveled in awe;
He gasped happily
At near everything he saw.

“Over here!” waved Delibird,
Showing Pikachu the home
Of a little white Ralts
That looked like a lawn gnome.

Two rows of tall candy canes
Led down to the door,
Pikachu ran down quickly;
He couldn’t wait anymore!

“Who’s there?” a voice called,
As cold as the wind;
“Don’t worry, it’s Pikachu!
I’m just a friend!

“I heard that you felt
Overworked with Mr. Claus,
But we need your help!”
He said without a pause.

“What is it?” Ralts asked
In growing frustration;
“Christmas needs saving!”
Pikachu cried with exasperation.

“So, what do I care?
I shall play no part!
You want to save your Christmas?
Just buy toys at the mart!”

“Please!” Pikachu pleaded,
“You don’t understand!
Your sadness makes all Christmas spirit
Joyless and bland!

“You have elf magic
Inside of your blood,
But without your help,
Santa’s a dud!”

Ralts opened the door,
Noting Pikachu’s fright,
That Christmas would be ruined
If he didn’t help out tonight.

“All right,” he sighed,
“Now what must I do?”
“Let’s go to the workshop!
And, Ralts, thank you!”

The three walked through the town
Hearing cries of joy and glee;
“Christmas is saved!
Hooray! Yippee!”

They built loads of toys
Until the clock struck midnight;
“It’s time to go!
I’ll be back by daylight!”

Santa walked out to the field
Where his sled lay in wait
With nine anxious Stantler
Hoping they wouldn’t be late.

Santa Delibird turned,
And with a smile of glee,
Said, “Pikachu?
Why don’t you come along with me?”

Pikachu’s face lit up
Like a string of lights,
“You mean it?” he asked;
“It’s really all right?!”

“Absolutely!” Santa laughed
With a great ho, ho, ho;
“Hop in right beside me
And off we shall go!”

A large bag was lifted
Into the back of the sled;
“It’s time to go now!
The kids are in bed!”

With a pull of the reins,
The sled rose into the air;
Pikachu gasped; from his seat
He could see everywhere!

The cheering below
Faded as they sped on,
“Let’s go!” Santa cried;
“On, Blitzen! On, Don!”

The rest of the night
All passed in a flash;
Santa went in house after house
Without even one crash.

Before long, the bag
Was fully empty;
“Well, I guess that’s everyone,
And everything to see!”

Santa pulled the reins once more,
Rising into the sky;
Pikachu laughed, feeling the pleasure
Of what it was like to fly.

The stars and the moon
Began to recede,
Making way for the sun,
Ending Christmas Eve.

They’d done it!
They really saved Christmas cheer!
Pikachu felt so happy,
He shed a small tear.

“Thanks so much, Santa,
For helping me understand,
Why Christmas is so important
To all across this land!”

“No, thank you, young friend,
For all your help tonight,
Now cover your ears;
This may give you a fright!”

Pikachu smiled,
Knowing what would come next;
He knew what Santa would say
As if written in text.

He smiled and watched
Santa Delibird inhale;
He felt joy, knowing he’d help
To save the Christmas tale.

Sure enough, Santa yelled
As the sun came in sight,
“Merry Christmas to all!
And to all a good night!”

Happy holidays, everyone!

Aw, that was so adorable! Great job, Kurt! :hug:

(They don't have a glomping smiley, so I'll take the next best thing. Hehe)

wow... that was pretty good... reminds me of when we had to translate the french version (which was torture...)

one thing I would have changed... sorta funny...

“So, what do I care?
I shall play no part!
You want to save your Christmas?
Just buy toys at WALmart!” (instead of: just buy toys at the mart)

stupid... but I thought of it:rolleyes:

Ha ha; I'd thought of it, but it felt kinda weird for whatever reason. I guess it's the whole controversy over whether one should shop there... *shrug*

Thanks for the feedback, guys; keep it coming! :-D
