Hi ya all. I am posting this here instead of in the Farmer Forum. Farmer Forum has people looking for trades of Specially bred Pokemon. So I bring it here to ask about a move-set I am planning to breed Yanma for. I figure it could get viewed here more often then in the Farmer Forum.
Move-Set 1 Easiest to Move-Set to obtain.
The Basics
Ancient Power(You need this to evolve into Yanmega).
Bug Buzz(STAB)
Air Slash(STAB)
Steel Wing(weakness protection).
Move-Set 2 Move-Set not to hard to obtain.
Upgrade - So you can level up to Yanmega at Level 2, then delete Ancient Power for Air Slash, Bug Buzz, or another favorite move later.
Ancient Power(You need this to evolve into Yanmega).
Bug Buzz(STAB)
Roost(One of my friends likes to have a healing move).
Steel Wing(weakness protection).
Move-Set 3 Move-Set has some difficulty to obtain.
Players Choice - So you can level up to Yanmega at Level 2, then delete Ancient Power for Air Slash, Bug Buzz, or another favorite move later.
Ancient Power(You need this to evolve into Yanmega).
Roost(One of my friends likes to have a healing move).
Protect(Gives you a turn to think :D).
Steel Wing(weakness protection).
Move-Set 4 Move-Set is by far the toughest I have ever tried to build.
Bad Dreams - So you can level up to Yanmega at Level 2, then delete Ancient Power for Air Slash, Bug Buzz, or another favorite move later.
Ancient Power(You need this to evolve into Yanmega).
Steel Wing(weakness protection).
Rest(One of my friends likes to have a healing move).
Sleep Talk(Attack while sleeping from Rest)>
Also Ancient Power would work nice in the move-set as well. It could counteract Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug Types. So hard to decide.

yanma doesnt have any good defence, so you should just hit hard with him, cause with a 4x rock weakness, he can get ohko with full hp. the first moveset is pretty good cause it covers alot of types

:D Tips, I know nothing. Yes your tip has led me to the Yanma brotherhood. I was trying to play it off as smoothly as possible, but really I just want a Super awesome Yanma/Yanmega to start getting my battle career started, maybe. Not 100% sure if I want to start battling.
Also was kinda considering this Move-Set.
Ancient Power(You need this to evolve into Yanmega).
Bug Buzz(STAB)
Steel Wing(Ice and Rock Protection).
Protect(Just an annoyer move).
Then I could pick up Air Slash after evolving into Yanmega and remove Ancient Power. Maybe even get U-Turn instead of Bug Buzz, so I could hit and run if a rock type entered the fight.

How is:
Ancient Power (change for Air Slash once evolved)
Bug Buzz
Steel Wing
Hypnosis
I certainly think you need the top three. If only Yanma could learn Flash Cannon, it'd go perfectly instead of Steel Wing due to its high Special Attack ... Anyway, what do you think of Hypnosis?

I like Hypnosis. I love to make opponents sleep, but on other forums any form of Sleep is banned in a lot of battles. I believe Hypnosis hads it accuracy increased from 55% to 70% and that is why any move that cause sleep is banned. There is also battles that only allow one Pokemon to be asleep at a time, I just find that lame. Protect against sleep, heal sleep, or just don't allow it to happen. Why ban moves. I have seen self destruct, explosion, OHKO, and a lot of other moves banned. First off OHKO's have like a 30% chance to hit, second most good moves if used against a type that is weak to the move can be One Hit KO's.
I can't believe I wrote the move-sets wrong up in the poll. I really got to stop reading 8 web pages, IMing, playing Pokemon, and writing post all at the same time.

Really?! Those rules are stupid. I'm sure after about 5 Generations of Pokémon games, if there was a major flaw making the game one-sided, it would've been sorted out by now!

Here is the post from another forum I go to and a list of odd battle rules he has came across.
I've noticed this with the types of rules that people use when people battle.
The big one being Double Team and OHKO moves entirely BANNED from battle. I really don't see anything wrong with DT/OHKO moves. It seems like people complain about Double Team because they don't use Haze or Taunt, and who seriously uses OHKO moves? They only work 30% of the time. Ever heard of Substitute?
Then there are people who go as far to ban hax items in battle which include the likes of King's Rock, Quick Claw, Scope Lens, Brightpowder, etc. I think that is an absolutely RIDICULOUS thing to do in my opinon. Not many people use these items to begin with; they're only used in specialized sets that abuse them.
Also, what's the deal with Freeze Clause? If two of your pokemon get frozen, you're just having a bad day. The odds of that happening are quite rare; freeze is totally random and can't be contained by a clause.
What's next; are we going to have a "Confusion Clause" because confusion relies on luck to work? I don't know about you, but there has been a huge increase in "luck-phobia" recently.
If the following clauses eventually came up, I'd just quit pokemon:
-No more Critical Hits
-Added effects are removed from attacks
-Togekiss Clause
-Honchkrow/Absol Clause
-All moves have 100% accuracy
I hope that doesn't happen. Luck has been a part of the game since pokemon's creation. If people continue to kill all parts of luck in this game, pokemon would be dead.
Thoughts?

@Bugcather - Actually Sleep is not banned on most Forums...its just that there can only be one pokemon sleeping at a time
Some rules I can agree with because they are just annoying....imagine a double teaming tanker who uses baton pass...it would be almost impossible to hit
Tho I do I agree that the other clauses....the ones that partane to luck.....are ridiculus.

Actually Yanma's defenses are not great, but Yanmega's is pretty good. Yanmega's Defense can be maxed out to 298. It's Special Defense is lacking, it maxes out at 232 with a beneficial Nature, 31 IV's, and EV training. Oh did I mention about 95% of my Yanmega have 31 IV's in Special Defense? They also have 30 IV's in Special Attack and Speed. The only thing that disappoints me is this move-set from a breeders point of view. The only move I am breeding in is Steel Wing.
:227: + :193: = :469:
Still draw to 3 differant move-sets.
Pure Power
Ancient Power
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Steel Wing
Rooster
Ancient Power
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Roost
T109
Ancient Power(bred in to evolve into Yanmega at level 2)
Bug Buzz
Steel Wing
Roost
Air Slash(Learn after evolving into Yanmega)
This is a Poke I want to make a fixture in my team, but the dang move-set is driving me nuts. I never have this much problem on deciding a move-set.
My Creative Breeding Process
I look at the Pokemon
Next the learned moves, egg moves, & TMs
Pokemon's Weaknesses
Pick atleast 6 moves I like.
Create a breeding chain for each move
Mix moves and Breeder Pokemon into line with target Pokemon
Finalize Move-Set
I am stuck on Process #6

all of the move sets sound awesome!
good luck choosing one.
(but be careful not to stress over it too much. remember that the point is to have fun, not to be the best battler around.)

Roost is only good if your pokemon can surive at least 3 1x hits, or if you are able to stall the other pokemon from attacking. If you plan to do that with a previous pokemon and switch to Yanma, it should know Roost. By itself, since Yanma's special defense and defense are average, it would not survive even 1 Hit (mayb 2) from a STAB move from a pokemon in the overused tier or even some in the borderline tier. Thus, it should know all power moves.
There is no good or bad moveset, it all comes down to strategy.
I follow exactly the same breeding process, but I have an extra step for ability. I hate it when you hatch a pokemon with almost perfect IVs, and it's the wrong ability.
So I suggest Move Set #1

Nintendo has yet to release an official tier list, but many go by the following:

Wow that is a pretty good list of tiers. It looks like I would hang out in the borderline group a lot. A very help list. Who is the Sensei?

Well, you already know I'd pick Moveset 2. You said so yourself. XD I know Yanma has terrible defense, but you could hypothethically take advantage of its Speed Boost ability, and use that along with Double Team, a little bit like Shedinja. Then teach Yanma Bug Buzz and Ancient Power. Since those two are Sp. Att., EV training for Att. stat can be spent on boosting Def. and Sp. Def instead. So my suggested moveset would be:
Ancient Power
Bug Buzz (STAB)
Double Team
Roost
Iono I'm an amateur at this XD

The reason I am breeding in Ancient Power is so Yanma evolves into Yanmega. The extra defense for Yanmega and its nice Speed, Sp. Atk, and HP gives it a good shot at being a sweeper. Also I think I would prefer it to have Tinted Lens for it's ability instead of Speed Boost. It is already fast and Tinted Lens doubles the power of not very effective moves. So hit hard and fast and maybe Yanmega will live threw it.
Oh yeah! I completely forgot about Tinted Lens ability! Well that throws my idea into the trash bin XD
