Default Face Off: Which Game Had the Best Starter Pokemon?

Face Off is a new feature here on Pokefarm. There are no right or wrong answers, instead we are looking to the membership to pick a side and defend it!

We encourage you to put your best argument forward and defend it from the other side. For our first installment of this feature we ask the question: which game had the best starter Pokemon? Let's take a moment to review.

Red/Blue/Yellow – The original Pokemon games (including their GBA remakes) introduced the franchise with the Pokemon Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. You could technically call Pikachu a starter because of Yellow version but he's really more of an exception and will not used in this discussion.

Gold/Silver/Crystal – The second Pokemon series was on the GBC and featured Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile.

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald – When Pokemon moved to the GBA we got Treeko, Mudkip and Torchic.

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum – With the latest series moving onto the DS we got Turtwig, Piplup and Chimchar.

We will not be discussing the Pokemon games that appeared on the GameCube.

So, I invite you to put your best argument forward as to why you think a particular set of Pokemon are the best. Have at it and please, keep it civil.

Its gotta be Gen 4. It has two that are well deserving of their OU tier status. Who doesn't love a MixApe? And I'm just now starting to use my new SubPetaya Empoleon.

I feel G/S/C had the best starters. Cyndaquil to me had the strongest final evolution for and being able to learn the elemental punches helped a bit.

Well my favorite one are the Kanto pokemons, BUT i think that the best are Sinnoh pokemons cause they get dual-type wich is really great.

I agree with both of these comments. All three fourth-gen evolutions receive pretty different and, in my opinion, neat dual-types, which also help make them good battlers both in-game and competitively. My vote goes to Gen. IV.

I think the Sinnoh ones have the most interesting dual types. Its not a simple Grass trumps Water, Water trumps Fire, Fire trumps Grass.
Turtwig will eventually learn Earthquake and have an advantageous move over Fire types. Piplup learns Drill Peck that can hurt Grass types and Monferno/Infernape fighting type moves counter the secondary Steel typing of Empoleon.

My favorite are the Hoenn pokemon. They were the perfect examples of Hoenn's luscious tropical climate.

I like the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum starters the best. A fire monkey chimchar, a penguin of steel and armor piplup, and the the turtle of grass turtwig FTW!!
I'll get a new sig sooner or later...
